Fan-Favorite Publisher Free League Offers a Wide Range of Award-Winning RPGs

by Tomas Härenstam, CEO and Co-Founder, Free League

It’sa turbulent time in the tabletop roleplaying industry. Many players are looking for new games to play and new systems to try. Free League Publishing has you covered.

A quickly growing independent publisher, Free League has made a name for itself in recent years with a range of award-winning RPG titles. These include officially licensed games like the ALIEN RPG and The One Ring as well as original titles like Vaesen, Symbaroum, Coriolis, Forbidden Lands and indie hits MÖRK BORG and CY_BORG.

Our most recent title is the official Blade Runner Roleplaying Game, based on the iconic films and propelling players into the streets of future Los Angeles as Blade Runners with unique specialties, personalities – and memories. The game pushes the boundaries of investigative gameplay in tabletop RPGs, giving players a range of tools to solve an array of cases far beyond retiring Replicants.

“ The Blade Runner RPG nails Ridley Scott’s vision, and adds pitchperfect investigative mechanics,” Polygon writes in their playtest review, and the praise has been echoed by Screen Rant, Wargamer, The RPG Academy and others. Upcoming titles this year include the official The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying for 5E, The Walking Dead Universe RPG and Dragonbane – a fun and fast D20based fantasy RPG that is great for long campaigns, but also perfect for a one-shot if you just want to have some quick fun at your table for a night.

Dragonbane is a classic fantasy RPG full of magic, mystery and adventure, designed from the ground up to facilitate fast and furious play, with very little prep time and adventures that are a breeze to run. Dragonbane is a game with room for laughs at the table and even a pinch of silliness at times – while at the same time offering brutal challenges for the adventurers.

No matter if it’s dark and moody science fiction or light-hearted fantasy swashbuckling, all Free League games are designed to be easy to learn and play, with simple yet effective rulesets that truly support the themes of the game and enhance stories created at the table. Most Free League RPGs use our in-house core game mechanics called the Year Zero Engine.

Based in Stockholm, Sweden, Free League believes strongly in nurturing a close relationship with the players and fans, and it shows – Free League was voted Fans’ Favorite Publisher at the ENNIES both 2020 and 2021, and named Publisher of the Year in the first ever Tabletop Awards 2022.

Equally important is our relationship to hobby stores across the country and the world, and we are working continuously to strengthen our support for all retailers. An organized play program called the League of Free Agents was launched last year, offering free adventures to play in stores or at conventions.
