Define a new agenda for architecture. Building on your RIBA Part 1 qualification and professional practice year, you’ll work on socially-engaged live projects while exploring the key architectural concepts and challenges of our time. Throughout this course you’ll explore the singular relationship between architecture, place and people through the principles of radical regionalism and sustainable design methodologies. With industry facilities, practising lecturers, high-profile industry guests and the opportunity to work on live build projects, you’ll also develop and refine your own socially-engaged participatory design practice. ILLUSTRATION AUTHORIAL PRACTICE MA Develop your own authorial voice on this unique illustration course. You’ll learn to see your work as an evolving practice, as you challenge and re-evaluate your personal visual language with the help of experienced practitioners. At the heart of this studio-based course is an examination of authorship and storytelling within illustration. COMEDY WRITING MA Do you want to push the boundaries of comedy writing to its limits? Are you on a mission to interrogate big ideas like sex, politics, religion and family through comedy? Or do you just want to write a show that’s unashamedly stupid? Whether your preferred comedy genre is sitcom, comedy drama or sketch shows, the world is in a state right now and we all need a laugh. And crucially, it’s your unique and hilarious interpretation of the world that’s required. We want to equip new and emergent comedy writers with the skills, tools and industry-focus which will push their projects to the top of the commissioning editor's pile and see their scripts green-lit. This course has been developed by award-winning comedy producer and executive producer Simon Nicholls. Simon has 20 years' comedy industry experience, developing and selling comedies in the UK and US. You’ll study the work of renowned writers and directors, reflect on professional trends and learn how to seize market opportunities. You’ll develop a comedy scriptwriting portfolio which will act as a calling card with which to approach comedy producers, comedy commissioners and get agent representation.

You’ll need to submit up to five pages of a comedy script for either radio, TV or film, as well a 300word piece of writing considering an old sitcom, which is no longer running. The piece of writing should clearly tell us why you've picked this show for reinvention now, describing how you'll modernise and reinvent the show to be a relevant must-watch for today's audience. You should give consideration as to who will star in this production, and your vision for the show to apply.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS AND HOW TO APPLY On-campus Master's Degree Applicants Entry requirements We welcome applications from those with relevant Level 6 qualifications, or relevant equivalent experience, and a demonstrable interest in their subject. We’ll also welcome your application if you have formal or 'certified' learning (such as training courses not run by universities or colleges) and learning from work experience or self-study. This is called Accreditation of Prior Learning (APEL), and should have been gained within the last five years, and be equivalent to the learning outcomes of our minimum entry qualifications. APEL applicants using experience to apply should note there is a £200 application fee for entry with advanced standing or with exemption from specific modules or credit. If English isn’t your first language, you'll need to demonstrate English language skills that are sufficiently developed for successful completion of your studies. Research Degree Applicants Entry requirements The normal minimum entry requirement for a place on the Research Degree at Falmouth University is an upper second class honours (2:1) degree of a British university or recognised institution of higher education, or an equivalent qualification from an institution outside of the UK. However, a Master's degree in an appropriate subject is considered to be a particularly valuable preparation for the academic and intellectual demands of an MPhil or PhD. In some instances, applicants without the minimum academic requirement as outlined above may be considered for a place on the Research Degree if they can demonstrate appropriate alternative qualifications, relevant professional experience, or previous research.

Libraries and IT Our two libraries are a trove of books, digital resources, magazines, specialist material and journals. You’ll have access to image banks, news archives, creative databases, e-journals and streamed content. You’ll find a supportive team of librarians, technicians and archivists. Sports Centre The Penryn Campus Sports Centre contains a four-court sports hall, large fitness studio and gym. Student Union Our Students’ Union is shared with the University of Exeter in Cornwall. Run independently by students, for students, SU provides support, advice, entertainment, parties and opportunities for volunteering and fundraising. The Students' Union also runs a wide range of clubs and societies, from cheerleading and sea swimming, climbing to Kung Fu – there’s something for everyone!
The great outdoors Whether it’s surfing, gig rowing, Zumba on the beach, yoga on stand-up paddle boards or pretty much anything else you can think of in between, the great outdoors in Cornwall is a place to have fun. Cornwall boasts over 400 miles of coastline and Falmouth itself is home to three beautiful beaches; Gyllyngvase (known by everyone as ‘Gylly’), Swanpool and Maenporth.

Designed for many budgets and tastes, these vary in size and cost, with bills included or excluded. While we can’t guarantee accommodation in University owned and managed residences to postgraduate students you are welcome to apply. Falmouth and Penryn offer a wide variety of private sector housing. Our Accommodation team can support you in finding somewhere to live,
offering one-to-one information, advice and guidance. There are also accommodation fairs, and online accommodation lists to help. We’re committed to providing a supportive environment for everyone. SUPPORTING YOU Student Services can help you through your time at University with a range of specialist staff and information. On-campus students Living Support Living Support can advise and assist you on a range of topics such as academic, personal concerns or any general worries. Approachable and friendly, they’re here to make sure you understand your options and get effective practical support. Healthcare We advise all our students to register with a local GP practice. If you live in Penryn you can register with Penryn Surgery, which also offers daily appointments at our Penryn Campus during term time. For those in Falmouth there are several surgeries available. More information is available at The Compass on Penryn Campus. Accessibility and inclusive learning Our accessibility advisors offer you advice, support and assistance if you have a disability, a long-term health condition or specific learning differences (SpLDs), including dyslexia and dyspraxia. Dyslexia Skills Tutors will help you develop your study skills and make the most of your learning strengths. Wellbeing Services Our Wellbeing Practitioners provide self-help resources, counselling and advice if you’re experiencing anxiety, stress or other mental health problems. They offer confidential sessions to explore any issues that might be impacting your academic life or enjoyment of university.
Chaplaincy The Multifaith Chaplaincy provides pastoral and spiritual care and conversation for students of all faiths and none. The Chaplaincy offers spaces on campus for prayer, meditation and quiet. The Compass Our student information service offers help and advice on any aspect of university life whether you have a quick query or require specialist support. From money matters to mental health, housing or accessibility, they’re here to find the answers and give you the support you need throughout your time at Falmouth. Childcare Staff, students and Falmouth locals bring their children to us for quality care and learning. We provide childcare and education for children up to five, and after-school care for children up to eight. And we work with you to give your child the unique care and attention they deserve. We have a nursery on both campuses.
Online students When you become one of our students, we’ll provide you with first-class support throughout your course. Our Student Advisors are available online, and they are your first point of contact for any practical queries. They’ll also be on hand to give you tips on learning online effectively, offer advice about work-life balance, or to direct you to our University support services. When you start, you’ll have an online induction to welcome you to Falmouth and introduce you to studying flexibly, with technical support if you need help with the online learning platform. Our extensive digital library provides you with a wealth of resources, while optional residential workshops offer exciting opportunities for face-to-face tuition and networking within your industry. You’ll also have careers support throughout your study, preparing you to seek and secure a profession in your chosen field.
