HELLO Welcome to the 2018 Falmouth University Fal River Festival. Now in its 13th year, the festival celebrates life on and around the Fal River and really showcases this amazing part of Cornwall. Once again the Fal River Festival has a wide variety of activities that really do cater for all ages and interests including established favourites such as Film on the Ferry and the St Mawes Jazz on the Quay. Everything you need to know to enjoy the Festival is in this programme, plus some tips on how to get to each event. If you need any further information including maps, ferry tickets and Mussel Cards, just call into the Fal River Visitor Information Centre on the Prince of Wales Pier in Falmouth.

A retrospective exhibition celebrating the work of one of Cornwall’s best loved artists, John Dyer, on the occasion of his 50th birthday. John is widely known for his vivid use of colour, joyful paintings and worldwide environmental art projects.

An exhibition to celebrate the launch of the children’s book ‘Treasure from the Sea’ (Mabecron Books) showing work by artist Sarah McCartney and author Lisa Woollett. This unusual exhibition includes collections of the beachcombed treasures and curiosities that inspired the book. Sarah will be showing original illustrations from the book along with resin sculptures, LED lights, drawings and prints. As well as cabinets of beach finds Lisa will be showing her contemporary sea photography, including images from her previous award-winning books ‘Sea Journal’ and ‘Sea and Shore Cornwall: common and curious findings’. The exhibition will tell something of the story of how the book came about. /FalRiverFestival

THE BEER FLEET Boats of all shapes and sizes join our classic fleet of ferries sailing down the river from Truro to Falmouth to mark the beginning of Falmouth University Fal River Festival 2018. With Betty Stoggs at the helm and the Truro Samba Band in tow, the lively flotilla will make its way down river escorting the all important 'festival ale' from Skinner's Brewery. The Beer Fleet will make it’s grand entrance into Falmouth’s Custom House Quay and is a spectacular sight not to be missed!

PILOT CUTTER CHAMPIONSHIPS Racing all day in the bay!

7pm / £4 - £6 It is 1944 and Elwood P. Dowd, an amicable middle aged man, is, as ever, looking to make new friends. He is kindly to all he meets and strikes most as charming. The majority of people don’t manage to maintain their friendship with him, however, due to the fact that his BEST friend is seven foot one and half inch tall rabbit named Harvey. Who nobody else can see. When his sister tries to have him committed to the local sanatorium, a hilarious farce comedy ensues, exploring mental health issues in a surprisingly sensitive manner along the way. I LOVE AMP + KRELYS Join us at Events Square for the grand opening of the Falmouth University Fal River Festival 2018 with free live music late into the night. The party starts at 7.30pm with the foot-stompin’ Irish band Krelys, followed by I Love Amp who take to the stage at 8.30pm. I Love Amp will get the party in full swing with an eclectic mix of pop, rock and funk songs that will have you bouncing off the walls from the first song! MILITARY DAY Dom McKiernan studied popular music and won a yearlong, paid internship at Island Records through the university, and now works at the Warner Music Group as a digital marketing assistant.

A day of celebration and remembrance for the American 29th Infantry Division who left for the Normandy Landings from Trebah beach. A family day rich in history featuring military vehicles, a short memorial service and performances including Kernow Pipe and Drums.
