Where do you think your music stands in the world now?
I think my music has a special place in my supporters’ world. My supporters always message me about how much they relate to my music and lyrics and how it’s helped them through rough times. The whole world hasn’t caught on to my music yet but I’m grateful for theonesthatIhavealready.
You mentioned on your new track 'Soul Cry'... "When I first heard the beat in the studio, I immediately jumped into the booth and started freestyling"...Can you share what was going through your mind and how you felt while creating and recording this single?
If there was one word to describe how I felt whilst recording ‘Soul Cry’ it would be powerful. I felt out of touch with my music for a while as I was so focused on graduating, that I hadn’t been able to fully indulge in my music. It felt freeing as I feel at home in the booth. The lyrics really reflected how I felt at the time and all thechallengesIhadfacedwhilsttakingabreak.
What was the biggest learning curve in writing/recording the single Soul Cry?
I think the biggest learning curve in writing and recording Soul Cry would be just getting back into the swing of recording and being comfortable in the booth again. I hadn’t recorded in months before this single so IfeltlikeIhadtodefrost.Ialsomadesuretoexperiment with new sounds, and to get out of my comfort zone. I made sure to add much higher background vocals to the main vocal for a better contrast and sound, which is definitelysomethingIwasn’t100%confidentinbefore.

How's your music journey been going since you released your first single, ‘The Right One’, in 2020? We're really interested to hear about your experiences as a young artist so far.
Since I released my first single ‘Come Up’ in 2020, I’ve been overwhelmed by, yet grateful for my journey. I thinkeveryone’sjourneyinmusicisdifferentandtiming is everything. Being at university whilst starting my career definitely had its challenges as I would have to travel 4 hours by train to get to a studio session and back.
My first year doing music was crazy, as I went from having no supporters, no following on my social media andnoclueonhowtoevenstartamusiccareertothen overnightgainingthousandsoffollowersandstreams.
Come Up organically hit 100k in its first few months of being released and this was without any video or promotion.Itgainedtractionfrompeoplefrommylocal cityandthenwidenedouttoLondonandevenAmerica. Knowing this I then continued recording at the studio, asIhadtokeepthemomentumrunning.
I filmed my first music video and released it in the summertime, which also hit over 100k views fairly quickly. As an independent artist, there are many challengesthatyouwouldfaceasyoudon’thaveallthe knowledge/resources/time/money as major labels, howeveritisdefinitelypossible, soit’simportanttohave a plan and to stay consistent. As I did take a year out to graduate, I’m only just getting back into the swing of things now, however behind the scenes I was always planning my next moves and working on proofreading mysound/imageandbuildingmysocials.
What's the best advice someone has ever given you?
The best advice someone has ever given me is to just keep going and stay consistent. A lot of people give up after the first hurdle, so that’s what will set you apart from them. Setbacks are necessary to grow. It always seemsimpossibleuntilit’sdone.
So, what are your big career dreams and goals?
My big career dreams and goals is to become the best artistIcanpossiblybecome.Levelupmysoundandmy image globally. I want to eventually help other smaller independent artists with the same dreams and goals, whether that’s by opening up my own label or just takingthemundermywing.Iwanttogiveback.
What's your secret music obsession that you secretly enjoy?
My secret music obsession that I secretly enjoy would be Hannah Montana. I grew up watching and listening toher.MyfirsteverconcertwasaMileyCyrusconcertat the age of 9 and I still remember the feeling of being there and taking in the atmosphere. She performed her hit single ‘when I look at you’ for the first time, which was a song I also covered at my dads friend's studio around that time. Her pop sound mixed with a slight country accent/vibe sounds beautiful and always takes metoanemotionalplace.

ELLIE MADELAND
What's up Ellie? As of now, what is on your mind?
Heyheythere!Thanksforasking.Iamenjoyingthevery exciting yet nerve-wrecking feeling of being about to release a new song very soon. There is so much to do before the release on 28th of July, but it’s all slowly coming together now! And also, I am really craving somechocolate.
Gives us a quick overview of what we should know about your new 'BODY AFTER BODY', and share with us the idea behind it.
BODY AFTER BODY means a lot to me as I am singing about something very close to my heart. The song is describing an intense sexual situation appearing to be fun, exciting and free, but there is also something lurking in the background, hinting that something isn’t quite right about it. Yet, the person wants to convince herself that everything is just fine. It represents my feelingsandprocessaroundhavingbeenpartofaquite intense tantric community, and also my own choices and experiences outside of this community, before really understanding myself, my body or my boundaries enough.
And that’s the conversation I want to highlight with BODY AFTER BODY, the importance of knowing your boundariesandoflisteningtoyourbody.Toshamelessly and fearlessly being able to say “no”, even when you are experiencing subtle discomfort, to pay attention to thosesubtleties.Itdoesn’thavetobe“bigandhugeand wrong” in order for something to feel “off”, or for you to dissociate.Thesongistalkingaboutreceivingconfusing messages, feeling joy but knowing that something painful is going on underneath it all. And that pain being a lack of self-love that makes you unable to expresswhatyoureallywant.
For me, a lot of people-pleasing tendencies stood in the way of my own integrity and autonomy. At the same time, the song really wants to celebrate sexual freedom and remove the stigma of enjoying pleasure. But it’s giving a kind of gentle warning that jumping into extreme situations without really knowing yourself fully can lead to overwhelm and trauma. I wanted the song to be slightly ambiguous but I hope the message still comesacross.Iwantpeopletoknowtheycantalktome about this stuff, and that hopefully they will feel less alone if they’ve experienced something similar. Sorry, I wasgonnakeepthatshort, wasn’tI?
Is it important for artists to incorporate their own personal experiences into their music?
Hm, well, it is important to me. It’s something I value very highly as an artist. However, I think there are a million ways to be an artist and there are many good examples of songs that are not directly based on personal experiences. Like ‘Octopus’s Garden’ by The Beatles for example… Although, you never know what those guys experienced I guess, especially Ringo who wrote it... Anyway, for me it depends on what you believe your purpose as an artist is, but generally I’d say yes.
In your opinion, what do you think is important for creating a real connection with people when making music? How do we make music more relevant and more impactful?
Vulnerability is super important. Daring to be vulnerable, honest, to talk about difficult topics, show humanity and let people in on your journey, even when thejourneydoesn’tlookpretty.Ithinkpeoplenowmore thaneverarelookingfor“realness”.
Something beyond the flashy, cool, mysterious, slightly apathetic artist expression that has been quite popular for a while. I say, show more slips, tears, awkwardness and childlike joy. Dare to be a geek and say what you wannasay.
What sparked your interest in music in the first place?
I’mSwedish,soABBAforsurehadsomethingtodowith it, haha. My whole childhood was filled with MTV and theTV-showIdol,Icouldn’tgetenoughofit.Ifeellikeall I did back then was to watch music videos and go to record shops to buy and explore new music. Music has always just been “it” for me. My dad is also very musical, so being surrounded by his passion for music as a kid hadabigimpactonme.
What are the main things you hope listeners will get from your music?
I really hope they will feel some type of connection and belonging. Like knowing that it’s okay to not be okay, and that there is a way through even when it doesn’t feellikeit.Iwantpeopletofeelseenandloved.

'I Can't Believe I Found You' will hit you right in the feelings
LEUER's new song, "I Can't Believe I Found You," beautifully captures the emotions of a heart that has experienced despair and finally finds love again. This songwriter, based in Portland, Oregon, seamlessly blendselementsoffolkandelectronicmusic, creatinga captivating fusion of folktronica and synthpop that will reigniteyourpassionforlove.
With its infectious beats and heartfelt vocals, "I Can't Believe I Found You" strikes a chord deep within, evoking a range of emotions. The song's powerful kicks and massive synths contribute to its convincing sound, enveloping listeners in a wave of pure emotion. The lyrics, drawn from personal text messages and conversations between the artist and his partner, add anauthenticandintimatetouchtothesong.
LEUER's DIY approach and ethos sparkles through his offering. He writes, plays, produces and mixes all his music: “My dad taught me piano when I was very youngandthenIstartedpickingupsingingfollowedby guitar. Shortly after I became obsessed with learning how to capture sound and manipulate it into what I wantedittosoundlikeinthecomputer.”
When asked about the inspiration behind naming his project LEUER,heshares::
“I started writing under my birth name, but decided I wanted to have something more meaningful to me. I came across the word LEUER, which at the time I thought it was a French word for describing the glow around someone - like when we say someone is glowing with happiness, but I guess it's actually misspelled. Thanks google. I still really like this idea about giving each emotion a moment to glow. Music is how I process my feeling and giving those feelings sometimetositwithmecanfeelveryhealing.”
Gardiklis' father demonstrated great foresight by introducing his children to classic rock at a young age, nurturing their musical upbringing. This early exposure to timeless artists laid the foundation for Gardiklis' eclectictasteinmusic.
In his own musical journey, Gardiklis finds inspiration from a range of contemporary artists. Artists like Bon Iver, SYML, Shy Martin, Lauv, Troye Sivan, and Shallou have captured his interest with their unique musical styles and emotive performances. While these artists represent just a few examples, there are undoubtedly many more that have influenced Gardiklis and shaped hismusicalpreferences.
Gardiklis' diverse appreciation for music allows him to draw inspiration from various genres and artists, contributing to the distinctiveness and richness of his own compositions. This broad musical palette adds depth and versatility to his work as a sound artist, composer, andelectronicmusicproducer.
Thisnewtrackisallaboutfindingloveagainaftergiving it up. About the inspiration behind I Can't Believe I Found You,hereveals:
“I divorced my ex in 2020 after he chose drugs over our relationship and figured that was it for me (especially after dating for a bit), and figured nothing is gonna come along and low and behold my partner walked into my life. When this song is released on June 6th I'll havequitmyjobandpackedupmystuff.
June 6th marks the day that I leave my current home and travel across the US with my partner and start a new life. I've been stuck in jobs I don't like and just kind of treading water, so when we talked about this possibilityIsaidyes...afteralotofdebating.Haha.”
He adds: “Honestly I had given up on love. I randomly met my partner through a friend who invited me to go to lunch with a traveling nurse that had a contract in the area. My friend had a facebook group for LGBTQ people to meet up and hike. We had an instant connectionandendeduphangingoutmore.
Because he is from Michigan, his time was limited and wehadtomakeadecisionifwewantedtoevenpursue each other. But both of us felt so strongly about each other we decided let's just do it and if we get heart broken, than that is how it was meant to be, but at least we wouldn't be wondering what COULD have happened.Fortunatelyitallworkedout.”
53
When asked what he hoped his fans would get out of his music, LEUER answered eloquently::
“I'm hoping people feel the anticipation and fear of giving your heart away to someone when the find love as well as the feeling of relief and excitement when both of you fall head over heals in love with each other.”
I've lived life on the safe side. Always making the "sensible" decision, but life isn't made to be sensible. But you can always move.
You can always quit a job. If something feels right, take the risk. I'm not saying quit your job tomorrow, but go do what makes you happy. If you aren't happy, it's okay to change and do something different. It's your life.
Don't let the fear of judgement from others stop you from doing what you want even if that judgment is from your family or friends. Go be happy.”

Is using AI to write music cheating?
By Bee Adamic
We all know that the way we write music is definitely changing, is it good, or is it bad. You decide. But I've decided to look at ways it can help you. Is it cheating, who knows but it will be a part of our future and we needtoembraceitright?
So many tools already exist with music writing and AI, including Soundraw, Soundful, Aiva, Jukebox and Google's open source Magenta. Also not to forget Google's recent MusicLM - which claims to write an entire song from a text prompt. Having tested many of them already I think artists and musicians still have greatpurposeandarenotreplacedquiteyet…
Melody and chord generation:
AI algorithms can generate melodies and chord progressions based on existing musical data. Musicians can use these generated ideas as a starting point and then modify and develop them further according to theirartisticvision.

AI algorithms can analyse and learn from a particular style or genre of music and generate compositions that emulate that style. This can be helpful for musicians who want to experiment with different genres or incorporate specific stylistic elements into their own compositions.
Music theory assistance:
AI can provide real-time assistance with music theory concepts. For example, it can help musicians identify scales, chords, and their relationships, making it easier to explore harmonic possibilities and experiment with differentmusicalideas.
Creative inspiration:
AI algorithms can generate random musical ideas or explore unorthodox combinations of musical elements. This can spark new creative directions and inspire musicianstothinkoutsidetheboxwhenwritingmusic.
Music production assistance:
AI-powered plugins and software can assist musicians with music production tasks such as audio mixing, mastering, andsounddesign.Thesetoolscanautomate certain processes, optimize audio quality, and help musiciansachievetheirdesiredsoniccharacteristics.
Music recommendation:
AI-based recommendation systems can analyze a musician'sexistingcompositionsormusicalpreferences and suggest similar artists, genres, or songs. This can help musicians discover new music and broaden their influences.
Personalised composition assistance:

Performance optimisation:

“Music education and learning: AI-powered platforms and applications can provide interactive music lessons, tutorials, and practice tools. These tools can assist musicians in learning new techniques, improving their skills, and expanding their musical knowledge.
Overall however it's important to note that while AI can provide valuable support, it should be used as a tool to enhance the creative process rather than replace it. Musicians should always maintain their artistic vision and personal touch when utilizing AI in their music writing process.”

2023wastheyearthat76-year-oldmusicallegend Elton John headlined Glastonbury Festival, making history and bringing together a variety of fans of all ages. Yet surprisingly, the sea of faces that gathered to watch Eltons Last UK performance were majoritively younger, who may not have even been born when Elton was at hisprimewithinthemusicindustry.
Is it now more common for a festival line up to include names that were huge in the 70s & 80s, bringing acts that dominated the world into the musical history of these festivals themselves. With aging voices and more restricted showmanship, these acts are still able to deliver a powerhouse performance and have millions of people rushing to the stages. Elton is not the first older act to be asked to headline Glastonbury, with Beatles icon Paul McCartney headlining the previous year on theWorthyFarm'sPyramidStage.
Festivals stereotypically are events targeted and marketed at Gen Z and are one of the most popular activities in the Summer. With an excuse to let loose and party, they are a social event that offer a space for young people to come together. Winning the hearts andloyaltyofmanyyoungpeople, you’lloftenfindthose who haven't had a year in their teenage/adult life not attendingfestivalslikeGlastonbury.
Glastonbury is known for showcasing those who are dominating the current music industry, bringing the bestofcurrentpopculturetoSomerset.
Contraditicating this selling point, Mumford & Sons are the only recent British festival headliners that have released an album within the last five years. Are British festivals now no longer aiming at selling to younger people?Itseemsthatway.
Whatever the target market may now be, the youth are stillbeingdrawntotheseolderheadlineacts.Maybeit’s nostalgia or the thought of being part of musical history. It could be the excitement of having an opportunity to see in person some of the British acts that caused media frenzies across the UK during the 70s/80s, fully knowing that we haven't seen such dominatingmusicalactssince.
There's current debate that shining a light on acts that have had their prime time is currently taking opportunities away from the young talent rising in the British music scene. Almost completely removing a spacethatwasalwaysdesignedtofuelthecurrentchart topping acts strips the chance for other young talent to followintheselegendsfootsteps.
OneelementIreallyadmiredabouttheEltonJohnsetis that the pop-icon used his platform at Glastonbury to inviteyoungeractsontothestage, showcasingthenext generation of Elton approved hits. Joining him live, Jacob Lusk, Stephen Sanchez, Brandon Flowers and Rina Sawayama tooktothestagewheretheywerejust ascelebratedandsupportedbythecrowd.
Is this change in line ups now redefining festival culture?Currentlyyes, butI’mnottoomadaboutit.
As much as I love upcoming talent within the UK, there is something magical about capturing Eltons last UK performance or Paul McCartney's first and last headline Glastonbury set. With a music industry that is now changing and representing a scene driven by popularity, these older acts set an example of what BritishMusicreallyrepresents.
I find myself being proof of this as I’m still singing
Is this change in line ups now redefining festival culture? Currently yes, but I’m not too mad about it.
