OCTOBER Throughout Oct - Black History Month (SE10) Celebrate and find out about black contributions to British society throughout history at Royal Museums Greenwich through a month of events, talks, family activities and film screenings across the site. www.rmg.co.uk Thu 3 Oct – Mar 2020 Costume at the National Theatre (SE1) The National Theatre’s Costume department sources, constructs, alters, repairs, organises and maintains costumes for over 20 new productions on the South Bank each year. This free exhibition in the Wolfson Gallery features costumes from productions including Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, War Horse, Follies and Antony and Cleopatra, and visits each stage of the production process; from design to construction, sourcing and alterations, to dressing, repairs and laundering. www.nationaltheatre.org.uk Fri 4 – Sun 6 Oct - Hillingdon Literary Festival (UB8) The Hillingdon Literary Festival is a free weekend of lively literary treats hosted by Brunel University London in partnership with Culture Bite. As well as the plethora of literary performances from internationally renowned authors, the festival weekend features writing workshops, lively debates, industry masterclasses, complimentary drinks receptions, the Poetry Takeaway, and the publication of a local anthology! www.hillingdonliteraryfestival.com Sat 5 Oct - Fun Palace 2019 (N12) Fun Palaces is a free nationwide celebration of arts, sciences and culture taking place all over the country, creating welcoming spaces for people to have fun and learn together. Go along to artsdepot for a day of free activities for kids and grown ups. From tiny dancers to mad scientists, there is fun for everyone in every corner of the building. www.funpalaces.co.uk Sat 5 Oct – Northwood Craft Market (HA6) A wide variety of crafts to browse and buy, all handmade by local crafters. Crafts vary at each market and range from jewellery, fabric bags and purses, knitting, crochet, and watercolours, to embroidery, greetings cards, children’s clothing, soft toys, essential oils, home accessories and more. For children there are hands-

on crafts to make something to take home. Markets run from 10am until 2pm at Northwood Methodist Church Hall. www.northwoodcraftmarket.co.uk Sat 5 Oct - Fun Palaces (SE10) The National Maritime Museum will be transformed into a Fun Palace for one day only! Go along for a day of wonderful activities, performances and many surprises as local communities ‘take-over’ the museum, showcasing their marvellous talents and curious interests. www.rmg.co.uk Sat 5 Oct - London Kid’s Experience: Graffiti Workshop (EC2Y) Discover street art old and new at this exciting workshop for children aged 7-11 at the Museum of London. You’ll start with a 30 minute tour around the galleries, looking at historic examples of street and urban art, before joining Graffiti Stars in a 90 minute workshop. Parents can leave their children to enjoy the workshop on their own, but are required for safeguarding purposes to stay within the museum site. £8 per child.
