Major upgrade at Jump In to AirHop Edinburgh

We’re delighted to announce the rebrand of Jump In to AirHop Edinburgh following major investment!

The park has seen some fantastic upgrades including Europe’s first 360 spiral slide! This dynamic and adrenaline pumping attraction sits alongside a giant launch slide, much like you’d find in a waterpark, which guests drop into headfirst on a mat before being launched into the air and landing safely on a giant airbag. The AirSlides are open now and available during sessions to everyone of at least 1.2m in height. Challenge your friends in the AeroStrike multiplayer game! Land as many balls in your opponents netted goal so score big and win, trick shots encouraged! If football is more your forte - shoot, score, spin and celebrate on the air-tracked Airena, the bouncy surface is also great for gymnastics!

Alongside these new attractions the park has undergone extensive refurbishment with new branding throughout so you can really feel a part of the AirHop family next time you visit.

A New Chapter: Navigating Separation and Building a Positive Future for Your Family

While the end of a marriage is undoubtedly a sad and challenging time, it can also be an opportunity for a fresh start. Gibson Kerr Family Law Solicitors have many years of experience in helping families through the divorce process. Here they share some guidance to help navigate separation in Scotland, with the aim of a smooth transition and a brighter future for your family.

Prioritising children’s wellbeing

In separating families, the children are often negatively impacted by divorce, and it is important to ensure they feel loved and informed throughout the process. Openly discuss the situation with them, emphasising continued love and stability. If possible, agree on shared custody to maintain strong bonds with both parents. Remember, the courts prioritise maintaining childparent relationships.

Taking Control: practical steps for an easier transition

Communication: Inform close family and friends of your decision as soon as you can.

Finances: It’s important to have an honest and realistic review of the family’s finances. If you can, agreeing on financial arrangements beforehand will help streamline the divorce process.

Property: think about living arrangements. If you can’t reach an agreement on the family home or rented property, a court will decide. Some families may want to look into housing benefits that may be available.

Practical updates: Close or transfer joint accounts. Inform banks, insurance, and utility companies about your changing circumstances.

Empower yourself: seeking professional guidance.

While navigating legal aspects can be complex, you don’t have to go through it alone. An experienced family law solicitor can offer invaluable advice tailored to your specific situation. They can help you reach agreements outside of court, making the process smoother and less stressful.

Starting fresh: Building a future for you and your family At Gibson Kerr, our experienced and empathetic family law solicitors understand the complexities of separation. We are here to advocate for your best interests and guide you towards a positive new beginning.

If you want to talk to an experienced and friendly family law solicitor to discuss any aspect of divorce or separation, please call us on 0131 202 7516 or email edinburgh@gibsonkerr.co.uk.

Take 5 in 2025

I don’t subscribe to the pressure of New year, New You, it is, after all, cold and dark and really we should all be hibernating!

Sarah Lindsley has provided us with some lovely suggestions that require minimal effort and budget but might just have some positive rewards for you and your family this year!

Get creative in the kitchen

It’s easy to default to repeating the same meals week in, week out but take advantage of a rainy day to dust off those old recipe books or search for some mouth-watering dishes online together. Or if you fancy someone else making the decisions for you, recipe boxes provide you with all the inspiration, instructions and ingredients. Look out for introductory offers.

Channel your inner Picasso

Creative activities stimulate both sides of the brain and can even have a similar effect to meditation, reducing stress and helping you to become more mindful and ultimately, happier. Pottery painting is a fantastic way to channel your inner artist and lose yourself in colour and contour for a couple of hours. Doodles is an Edinburgh institution and a great place for a family trip

Hold a weekly family night

Agree on an evening that works for everyone and switch off the devices. Whether Monopoly, card games or karaoke are your bag, turn up the music, make some popcorn and enjoy some good old-fashioned fun. Get tweens and teens to join in by letting them pick the games or having a friend round. Check out charity shops for second-hand games or start a game swap with friends or neighbours.

Put their toys on rotation

The ‘I’m bored’ chorus is an all-too familiar sound to most households with small children. A toy rotation system is a great solution for everyone. Hide or store away half your kids’ toys and swap them over every few months; it means less clutter for you and the novelty factor for them.

Make time for a family day out

Sometimes just a trip to your local park with a hot chocolate and a game of hide-and-seek is enough to get everyone laughing and chatting. Plan a nature scavenger hunt or wrap up warm and count birds for the Big Garden Birdwatch. We are lucky to have plenty of FREE museums and galleries around us but you can also look out for annual memberships to save money throughout the year at your favourite attractions.

PARTIES

Birthday presents on a budget

Party invitations are a thrill for children, less so for presentbuying parents! However, fun does not have to be expensive. Here are some great gift ideas that will delight the recipients without breaking the bank.

The present box

Buying gifts throughout the year (during the sales or ad-hoc promotions) and setting them aside saves money and avoids the last-minute panic shopping dash. Great gifts to keep an eye out for are the mini Orchard Toys games (www.orchardtoys. com), which are usually not gender specific, cater for a broad age range and retail at £5.35. Look out for craft or gardening kits, books and outdoor games such as skipping ropes, hula hoops, goalie gloves or frisbees, which have lasting play value.

Multi-packs

Multi-packs can be divided up to create gift sets, which can be very cost effective. Mix and match the items to suit the age and interests of the birthday child. For younger kids, a bundle of ten books (The Works usually sell ten books for £10), a party pack of bubbles or a bumper pack of assorted playdough make a great gift.

Favourite ‘go to’ gifts

Presents that get children outdoors or being creative are always a win; something like a magnifying glass and a bug identification book (which come in under £10), ‘scavenger hunt’ type cards, a kite, pavement chalks or a gardening or craft kit.

‘Non toy’ gifts

Children are often inundated with toys on their birthdays, so a fun t-shirt or some funky socks can work well, especially if you

can find something featuring their favourite superhero or TV character. These can be very reasonably priced in high street chains and most supermarkets and parents will be pleased you’ve bought their child something to wear.

Club together

Club together with other parents in the class and buy one larger toy, voucher or experience. The birthday child will get a much bigger present and it will have cost you each less.

Creative gift-wrapping can zing up the contents and it doesn’t have to cost a thing. Use pages from an old magazine or street map, leftover wallpaper or personalise a brown paper bag with lots of colour.

Eco gifts

Grow your own: Gift wrap a plant pot with a little bag of compost and some seeds for a gift that will keep growing!

For more birthday party tips, read Tamsin’s blog at www.icecreamandjelly.com or Insta @icecreamandjelly_uk.
