Bringing local families and businesses together
Hello and welcome to our Spring magazine which we hope you will enjoy and find useful over the coming months. As usual it is packed to bursting with things to do, moneysaving vouchers and offers, family activities, competitions with great prizes to be won and lots, lots more! Cathy has found masses of local family events and is constantly adding more to our websites...please take a look and you’ll find even more things for you and your family to do! For day to day information please follow us on Facebook or visit us on Pinterest if you are looking for crafty ideas and inspiration. None of this would be possible without our amazing advertisers...thank you so much! Please support our local businesses and please tell them you saw them in the Family Grapevine when you get in touch. And another thank you goes to our distributors and you, our readers, for supporting us and taking the time to get in touch...yet again you have blown us away with your comments. Here are just a few! The whole magazine is just brilliant. Find it so useful to have so much local info on what’s on in one magazine. Use the vouchers for treats / days out... Have found out about groups and activities that I don’t think I would ever have known about without reading the family grapevine. Joanna

Services with a price to smile for, a general repair or just a bit of advice. Few people realise that putting a child in ill-fitting shoes can damage their health in later life. If we walk to avoid pain then it wears out other joints and tendons in the body and that is why so many people get problem knees, leg, hip, back, shoulder and neck pain. The bones in our feet are hugely delicate in childhood and can be misshapen, it is vital to: a. Have your children regularly fitted by a QUALIFIED SHOE FITTER. b. Bear in mind the Gauge is merely a guide, there is no standardisation of shoe sizing. c. Buy footwear made of leather or other natural materials. d. Wear the right shoe for the right occasion. e. If you are in doubt about the fitting of shoes, ask to have the fit checked. f. If ‘baby-grows’ still fit in the body but are tight over the toes – cut the toes out and use socks to keep feet warm. g. Check toe seams of socks for casting off knots. h. Keep feet clean and toe nails trimmed (cut nails straight across do not shape them).

As an NHS organisation we use personally-identifiable information to conduct research to improve health, care and services. As a publicly-funded organisation, we have to ensure that it is in the public interest when we use personally-identifiable information from people who have agreed to take part in research. This means that when you agree to take part in a research study, we will use your data in the ways needed to conduct and analyse the research study. Your rights to access, change or move your information are limited, as we need to manage your information in specific ways in order for the research to be reliable and accurate. If you withdraw from the study, we will keep the information about you that we have already obtained only with your consent. To safeguard your rights, we will use the minimum personally-identifiable information possible. Health and care research should serve the public interest, which means that we have to demonstrate that our research serves the interests of society as a whole. We do this by following the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research. If you wish to raise a complaint on how we have handled your personal data, you can contact our Data Protection Officer who will investigate the matter. If you are not satisfied with our response or believe we are processing your personal data in a way that is not lawful you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Our Data Protection Officer is Rory King and you can contact him at rory.king@nuh.nhs.uk.

COOKING WITH
KIDS
Oreo Truffles
An easy recipe for a special treat at Easter (or any time really!!) Great for making with the kids INGREDIENTS: Makes 20 (ish!) l l l l l l
200g Oreo Biscuits 100g Cream cheese 200g Chocolate Vanilla extract Sprinkles/decorations And/or tubes of icing
METHOD
Decorated by a 4 yea r old who loves sprinkles!!
1.
Either put the Oreo biscuits into a strong food bag and bash them with a rolling pin or blitz in a food processor until fine crumbs.
2.
Put the cream cheese in a large bowl and add a generous splash of vanilla extract and mix well OR add to the crumbs in the food processor and blitz again.
3.
If mixing in a bowl add the Oreo crumbs gradually to the cream cheese and vanilla mix and stir thoroughly. It will become harder to mix but ensure you add most of it. (If you have crumbs left over, it’s a perfect topping for the truffles once they’ve been coated in chocolate).
4.
Take a teaspoon of the Oreo mixture and if the mixture is quite firm roll into a ball and place on greaseproof paper (if too sticky shape into balls when the mixture has been chilled). When all the truffles are done place in the fridge to chill for at least 2 hours, they will become harder and less sticky which will make applying the chocolate easier.
5. When the truffles are chilled, break the chocolate up, place in a bowl and melt either carefully in the microwave or over a pan of boiling water. Using a fork, spear the truffles and dip into the melted chocolate. Let the excess chocolate drop back into the bowl and ease the truffle back onto the greaseproof paper using a second fork. 6.
Decorate with sprinkles, decorations or dust with the left over Oreo crumbs while still wet and chill again in the fridge until set OR chill until the chocolate is set then decorate with the tubes of icing and leave to set again...Enjoy!! Adapted from a recipe on bbcgoodfood.com

Rehearsals will begin in April and the show will be staged at the Palace Theatre Mansfield on the 16th & 17th June 2020. Featuring chart-topping Queen songs including “Another One Bites the Dust”, “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “Killer Queen”, “We Will Rock you”, “Somebody to Love”, “We are the Champions” , and many more, this show follows two young rebels as they restore rock ‘n’ roll to “the iPlanet” in a post-apocalyptic world. We Will Rock You is a musical for our time: a fist-pumping, foot-stomping anthem to individuality. The New Youth Theatre concept is simple. Children between the ages of 3-17 years are taught how to develop and improve their performing arts skills whilst rehearsing for a fully staged musical each term. Taster sessions are available.
