With over 30 years of childcare experience, our family run business is excited to be offering our new pre-school, Chuckletots, for children aged 2 to 4 years. We will be open Monday to Friday during term time, with a range of flexible, and affordable, half and full day sessions.

This fantastic, bright and warm centre includes a spacious and colourful hall with a dedicated learning area which allows further oppor tunities for the children to learn with adult led activities, a quiet, individual, toddler room, and a small outdoor area. We have included within the space a cosy, quiet corner for reading and resting and a multi-sensory area with lighting and sound effects, our very own messy mud kitchen, sand and water play, an outdoor growing area/Forest School plus more. Our primary focus is to provide a caring and safe environment where children can learn to interact with other children, and adults, on what might be their first venture away from home. When children are relaxed and happy, they learn! With our qualified, experienced, and dedicated staff we create a fun atmosphere with stimulating activities for children to enjoy, helping them to thrive to their full po tential. Our activities include phonics, physical activity, music, arts and crafts and plenty more! Allowing children to develop and grow independently through play, supporting their development by providing learning opportunities and helping to promote their independ ence, confidence, emotional and social skills to assist in preparing them for their move to primary school.

Our unique learning program, tailored to each child, includes developing early mathematical and literacy skills, social skills and in dependent learning alongside construction lessons assisting with fine motor skills and problem solving. We also provide a hands on, nature-based learning program that focuses on holistic development and regular outdoor activities to help children achieve a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Our goal is to give each child firm and secure foundations, with a range of knowledge and skills to help them as they transition through life.

We accept the 30 hours free childcare scheme and free 15 hour funded places. These are currently available for all children aged 3+. Extra pre-school hours are available for an additional charge.

Laleham Lea Catholic Independent School Awarded Highest Possible Rating of ‘Excellent’ by Independent Schools’ Inspectorate

Laleham Lea School, in Purley, is delighted to announce that it was recently awarded the highest possible rating of ‘Excellent’ across Focused Compliance and Educational Quality Inspection including Academic Achievement following a full inspection from the Independent Schools Inspectorate.

The Inspection, which took place in February, reported that ‘The quality of the pupils’ academic and other achievements is excellent’ and, ‘The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent’.

Following the Inspection process which included parental, student and staff surveys, staff and student interviews, as well as observations of lessons and daily life at the school, the inspectors reported that, ‘Pupils make excellent progress, achieving at levels in advance of expectations for their age and ability’, ‘Pupils are outstanding communica tors’, ‘Pupils develop highly effective study skills (and) are highly enthusiastic learners’.

Along with excellent academic results and an impressive list of Senior School destina tions and Scholarship Awards, Laleham Lea Catholic School is also known for and is proud of its pastoral care which was praised by the inspectors who commented that, ‘The quality of the pupils’ personal development is excellent’, ‘Pupils have high levels of self-understanding for their age and show notable resilience’, ‘Pupils show outstanding respect for each other and are highly inclusive’ and ‘Pupils develop good relationships and demonstrate excellent social skills’.

Kids Christmas Recipes

Reindeer Pop Cakes

Ingredients

150g chocolate cake

25g soft butter

50g icing sugar

25g plain chocolate

100g milk chocolate

small pretzels, broken into large 'antler' shape pieces

8 small jelly sweets, red chocolate beans or Smarties

2 tbsp royal icing coloured black or purchased black writing icing

8 cake pop sticks and a polystyrene block to stand up the cake pops

Cooking Method

Crumble the cake into fine crumbs. Put into a bowl. In another bowl, beat together the butter and icing sugar until creamy.

Melt the plain chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Add the melted chocolate to the butter mixture and combine. Add this to the cake crumbs and mix thoroughly using your hands, until it sticks to gether. Divide the mixture into eight and shape each one into a smooth ball. Insert a cake pop stick, place on a tray lined with baking parchment and chill for at least 2 hours.

Melt the milk chocolate in the microwave or in a bowl over a pan of barely simmering water. Take a cake pop and dip in the chocolate. Shake gently until the excess has drained off. Stand in the polystyrene block. Make two holes in the top of the head and insert a pretzel 'antler' in each one. Press a sweetie nose onto the front and hold for a few seconds until attached. Repeat with all the other cake pops. Leave to set for about 20 minutes and then using black icing, pipe on eyes and a mouth.

Snowman Christmas Biscuits

Ingredients

200g/7oz self raising flour

100g/3½oz caster sugar 100g/3½oz butter, plus extra for greasing 1 large free-range egg, lightly beaten 1 tsp vanilla extract For the decorations white and blue fondant icing white and black writing icing sprinkles

48 small chocolate balls

Method

Pre heat the oven to 180C/350F/Gas 4.

Mix the flour and sugar together in a bowl, then rub in the butter with your fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.

Add the egg and vanilla essence and mix to form a soft dough. Roll out onto a well-floured work surface and cut into rounds. Place on greased baking sheets and bake for 10-12 min utes, or until golden brown.

Cool on a wire rack. When completely cool decorate.

Roll out the white fondant icing and cut out circles the same size as the biscuits, brush the backs of the circles with a little cooled boiled water and stick them to the biscuits, smoothing down the icing as you stick it on.

Roll out the blue icing and cut out more circles, then cut these in half and using a little more water and stick on top of the white icing for the hats.
