LOCKDOWN HAS NOT STOPPED THE HIRSCH TEAM FROM SHARING THEIR LOVE OF EVERYTHING RELATED TO FOOD. WHERE THERE’S A WILL THERE’S A WAY, AND NOW THEY’RE TICKLING TASTEBUDS VIRTUALLY!

Hirsch’s has been hosting their popular Kitchen Capers events for three years now – instore and now, very successfully, online! Foodies, bloggers and anyone interested in learning something new about food have either Zoomed into the events held at different venues or have watched on

Margaret’s Facebook live feed on her page.

Margaret has managed to be present at some of the events and has loved the interaction – both with guest chefs and the virtual audience.

Guest chefs have come up with some wonderfully inspiring ideas. From catering

for a small function with guest chef, food stylist, chef and baker, Lucy Markewicz showing how to make a quick and easy Poached Prawn Vietnamese Rice Wraps … to some delicious Greek Mezze platter delights with the Eat Greek team Nick Papadopoulos and Eric Edwards. There was a magnificent curry demonstration that took place at the Oyster Box Hotel with Chef Nair showing off his skills, and a magnificent three-course gourmet meal put together by FoodInc’s Chef Gerhard.

A regular guest chef has been the lovely cook book author and lifestyle chef Izelle Hoffman who has produced

some super health-packed meals in the Bosch kitchen at the Centurion branch, as well as vegan chef and the owner of Roots Café and Deli, Jen Swanepoel, who has showcased some mouthwatering vegan meals in the Bosch kitchen at Hirsch’s in Ballito.

Margaret and Allan have also joined the talented chef and owner of the Jackie Cameron School of Food and Wine, Jackie Cameron, for some magnificent braai feast demonstrations on the Weber – with Jackie’s pupils helping out along the way and adding their own touch of magic.

The back-to-school lunchbox ideas that Margaret and her Sous Chef Lindsay Kleynhans put together were a huge hit with the audience, as were some wonderfully African-inspired meals from Chef Lesego and some quick and healthy business lunch ideas from top businesswoman Nomfundo Mcoyi. More recently, Margaret joined Christine Cappendale in her Kitchen in the Cape where they both whipped up an effortless four-course meal together.
