IT’ S A B O U T MOR E T H A N J U ST LO O K IN G AT W HAT’S O N TH E S U R FA C E . . . E3 has been and gone and on reflection of this year’s event we leave feeling a range of emotions. This year was always going to be a strange one what with Sony MIA, the current generation of consoles a year out from being replaced by shiny new ones and the likes of streaming and game passes playing a bigger role. Still the show must go on as they say and E3 wasn’t short of head turning announcements and impressive looking titles. Everyone had something to show off. Nintendo announced a sequel to Breath of the Wild, Bethesda announced two new IPs, Google revealed more details on Stadia, Ubisoft extended their Tom Clancy catalogue and Microsoft... well Microsoft stole the show with Keanu Reeves. Sure this year’s E3 probably won’t be remembered as one of the all time greats but if anything it did provide a glimpse into how the industry will continue to grow both from a games and technology perspective. I for one cannot wait to see how things develop. Ryan Janes

This year’s E3 may not have offered the same level of oomph we’ve come to expect from the LA based event but that doesn’t mean it lacked exciting games. Bethesda’s 2016 reboot of the DOOM series proved one of that year’s biggest surprises and Eternal somehow manages to look even more chaotic, fun and gory. As a fan of horror Blair Witch ticks all the terrifying boxes. Maybe I‘ll brave this game on my own. Luigi’s Mansion 3 meanwhile, while not as scary certainly stands out with its charming looks and fantastic animation. 12 Minutes’ top-down view and time looping mechanic sound great while I’m thrilled to see Travis Touchdown return once more in a proper se quel to the No More Heroes franchise.

Cyberpunk 2077 topped my list at E3 2018 and takes the top spot again this year. The world looks immersive, thrilling, gritty and unique, I can’t wait to get totally lost in it! I love the Zelda series, especially the early iterations. I missed out on Link’s Awakening by not buying into handheld gaming until much later, so I’m genuinely super excited about this updated version. Deathloop intrigues me, it piqued my interest, plus I’m a sucker for a new IP. Indie wise, 12 Minutes and Midnight Ghost Hunter look particularly interesting. So 12 Minutes has been hanging around for a long time already, but I really like the retro vibe I get from the top down perspective.
