With almost a million Ottawans behind our backs, our mission is clear; bring the games to Canada, bring the games to Ottawa. Ottawa is a diverse region. Being overshadowed by her two larger siblings, Toronto and Montreal, the Pan American Games would be a perfect occasion to show the world our increasing traits and unique qualities. We want to show the word that Ottawa is a global city. However, titles are not the main focuses of this committee’s message. We wish to build community. Build a stronger, unified country. And that starts right from the centre, in the nation’s capital, Ottawa. Ottawa is already taking steps to create the outdoors more world-friendly, city-friendly, family-friendly. With Sunday morning streets closed for outdoor
recreation, Ottawa shines bright with its ever-increasing range of activities. Skating, cycling, hiking, sailing, golfing, skiing and fishing. Ottawa has it all. It just takes one move to create an even greater movement; one involving the nation, and one involving new opportunities for both the young and old. Ottawa, with help from the Pan/Parapan American Games, is creating new opportunities for the next generation to blossom and be their own stars. With almost 10 individual sports, 20 individual leagues, 26 separate sports teams, and a sports history dating back over a century ago, it is no wonder why Ottawa shows high enthusiasm for sports yearround, rain or shine. As holder of creating and maintaining one of the cleanest cities in Canada (third in the world!), second highest quality of living in the Americas, and best community for three consecutive years, Ottawa will warmly (and proudly!) welcome the world with its diverse backgrounds, rich history, and Canadian culture.

Being the warmest time of year for Ottawa, July and August are the perfect time ranges in which the Pan American and Parapan American Games will be held. July and August also fall under Ottawa’s Sunday Bikeday schedule which will offer a unique and interactive message during the games. From Friday, July 14 to Saturday, July 29, the warm vibe of the Pan American games will ring throughout the streets of Ottawa for 15 days straight. July itself is a hiatus for inter-Canadian competitions, which will certainly give the athletes much spotlight during the games. From Friday, August 11 to Saturday, August 19, nonstop inspiration will pour into every mind and soul in Canada (and from the Americas to the world!). The large time gap between the Pan American Games and Parapan Games ensures that the committee and volunteers have enough time to create the best experi-
ence possible for athletes and visitors alike during the 8-day time frame. In addition, the ‘odd’ time placement also ensures that all athletes receive the media attention they deserve. In addition, Ottawa’s favorble location also provides an almost perfectly centered time-zone preference. Ottawa will only be 1-2 hours off from cities such as New York City, Mexico City, Rio de Janero, Sao Paulo, Buenos Aries, Santiago, and Lima!
The games will be scattered around 5 different clusters—Britannia, Downtown, Rideau River, Southern, and Western --throughout or near the Ottawa area. In the centre of the venue plan is the Rideau River Cluster, where the newly built IBC, Athletes’ Village, and Ceremonial Stadium is located in. The plan will make use and improve of existing infrastructure, such as community centres and university stadia. Other venues will be found at Aylmer, Dunrobin, Hull, and the Whitewater region. With Ottawa’s extensive and ever-expanding BRT and LRT system, coupled with existing infrastructure, and successful transportation planning methods, Ottawa will provide a seamless transportation experience sprinkled with reliability and legacy. Introduction of new services will allow an exclusive and eco-friendly experience, providing less chaos within the busy road
networks and roadways between the well planned venue clusters. Ottawa is prepared™
Ottawa’s ultimate goal is to serve the community. Without the community, there would be no Ottawa. As well as serving the athletes, visitors, and officials, the community also needs to unite under one to create the best experience for all. We would like to reward the community for choosing Ottawa, for creating Ottawa the place it is today. We would like to give back to the community, as they have given us, and the future athletes, officials, and visitors soon to come. We would like to embrace community continue its warmth and friendship, whilst loosening financial strain of them. Sometimes, there can’t always be a perfect balance between hosting, community, and finance. The committee, in acknowledgement, has tried to create the best balance of the three. With a combination of
private funds and existing infrastructure, Ottawa will promise to make an affordable and economic games. By relying and improving upon current facilities, Ottawa can secure its future legacy. Transformed community Centers and a variety of other public spaces will provide a games unique to the athletes, but also a legacy made directly for Ottawa. With the thoughtful venue placement in hand, all of Ottawa will be able to experience the opportunity of sports within a 30 minute or less drive for all. The venues being planned will provide spaces for local institutions to freely use. In addition, all private venues involved in the games will be open during our bikedays to enforce and renew the opportunities promise to make an affordable and economic games. With over 60 options to choose from, Ottawa will certainly be a visitors’ paradise. A wide array of options ranging from luxury to budget, high-rise to cabin will cater to all preferences.
With Ottawa’s existing infrastructure and infinite possibilities of geography, we will be able to create an eco-friendly and reliable games, transportation-wise. Ottawa is proudly served by three main airports. The award-winning and, ever expanding Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport (YOW) will serve as the main international hub for Ottawa. YOW also boasts 13 airlines and over 50 different destinations to choose from, most of which to/from the Americas. Two smaller regional airports, Gatineau-Ottawa Executive Airport, and Ottawa/Carp Airport, will alleviate domestic travel. Ottawa’s OCtranspo line 97 will connect the airport to the centre of the games and to the centre of the city. Ottawa, during the games, will primarily be served by OCtranspo for spectators. OCtranspo offers a variety
of bus-lines, such as BRT and local lines, that connect to/through downtown Ottawa. OCtranspo also has one functioning light-rail line (the O-Train) ,which will be heavily used to connect to the Olympic Park, and one line underway, expected to open in 2018 (the Confederations Line). Ottawa’s reliable transportation will ensure a clean, efficient, and seamless games for all. The games will also provide an opportunity to emphasize complete modernization to our fleet and stations. Bike friendliness will also be added to all of Ottawa to encourage exercise and eco-friendliness. For intercity/regional transportation, Ottawa will be served by numerous services such as Via Rail and STO.
Ottawa’s geographic features will also be used to its advantage. Extensive bikeways and waterways will allow more freedom for athletes and spectators alike. In an effort to showcase Ottawa’s beauty, we will also provide a new ferry service that will run along the rivers/waterways that will take part with games. All clusters will have at least two ferry terminals within walking distance from a venue. Ferry terminals may range from temporary to permanent. Proposed ferry routes include the Ottawa River Line, Rideau River Line, Rideau Canal/Dow’s Lake Line, and the Western Canal Line. To better connect each venue, each cluster will have their own unique fleet of trams built uniquely for the games. The tram will especially serve persons with disabilities well. The tram will follow a route best fit to connect major transit stations in or near the clus-
ster to each and every venue, if not near each venue. The tram will offer free services during the duration of the games. For officials, a dedicated car and driver will serve their transportation needs, rolling along the dedicated lanes along our motorways. Athletes will be able to experience our diverse range of transportation options, such as customized highspeed boats that zoom along our waterways, specially decorated buses, and enhanced train cars unique to each team/country along with make-shift stations to create a more seamless connection between train-station-venue. With a Transit Score of 72, a Walk Score of 83, and a Bike Score of 100, Ottawa is already prepared for the masses soon to come!
The national security forces, along with local and private forces will provide an organized, yet unified network across all venues, clusters, and, possibly, some transportation stations.
