Covering these questions are several others. How vital is telecommunications to the Indian economy? How will telecom research help in improving the lives of people or increase their effectiveness or solve an underlying problem? Has telecom reached the state of saturation or is there a scope of innovation? It is hard to anticipate the future impact of telecommunications applied science and intelligence that have not yet been invented. For example, who would have thought the full-scale impact of the internet a few years back in India? It has changed the world around us. I remember, my parents used to go a few kilometers for making a phone call. Video conferencing was just beyond the thought.
Mr. Rajiv Gupta, the chairman and the MD of TCIL shares his thoughts on how the social vitality of telecommunications is well acknowledged and broadly understood. How this industry has been a reason for a nation’s growth and keeps us all connected. How have you adapted yourself to the latest needs of the market? TCIL started its journey in 1978 with initial focus on telecommunications consultancy. It then diversified into other areas like Civil & Architecture and IT, where it now maintains a strong position.

TCIL has been a part of government’s major initiatives and projects such as: 1. Wi-Fi Hotspots Project: TCIL is setting up over 12000 Wi-Fi hotspots at Rural Telephone Exchanges of BSNL. This entire project worth Rs. 942 crores marks the migration of general public into digital citizenry providing them access to internet services for banking, agriculture, e-governance, healthcare etc.TCIL has also been awarded as the ‘Best Wi-Fi System Integrator’ for its work in the landmark project.
TCIL’s vision is to excel and maintain leadership in providing optimal solutions on turnkey basis in Telecommunications and Information Technology Service sectors globally and to diversify by providing excellent infrastructure facilities particularly in the high-tech areas. 2. Andaman and Nicobar Islands Connectivity: TCIL has been instituted as a Technical Consultant by Department of Telecommunications for its prestigious project of connecting the Andaman & Nicobar islands with the rest of India through Chennai. TCIL is preparing its Detailed Project Report involving identification of the submarine cable route, estimating the CAPEX & OPEX, designing the network architecture and system dimensioning. TCIL’s role has been instrumental in undertaking certain distinctive activities for this project. It carried out a detailed study of the sea bed for ascertaining the cable route whilst also seeking environmental clearance for the project from the Ministry of Environment & Forests (MoEF). Additionally, TCIL shall be also supervising the execution of the project as an Independent Monitoring Agency (IMA) on behalf of USOF (DoT).
Are you planning to establish the company as a global brand? How are you going to do that? TCIL is already a global brand. We began working with overseas partners long back in 1981 starting with Nigeria in Africa. During the same time we set up our first office in the UAE to venture into the Middle East. Today, TCIL has partnered with country governments and a wide range of ministries in more than 65 countries across the globe, sharing India’s astounding telecom prowess with the world. TCIL quickly earned the epithet of a ‘preferred partner’ for large govt. projects in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, the UAE and others. TCIL Kuwait Branch has been a major contractor of the Ministry of Communications, Kuwait since 1978 for Construction and Maintenance of Telecommunications Networks.
3. REC Headquarters: Another feather in TCIL’s cap is the construction of a first-of-its-kind REC World Headquarter Building at Gurgaon. The REC (Rural Electrification Corporation) building has been designed in compliance with GRIHA-5 star ratings to reduce carbon footprint. It is equipped with Access Controlled Lighting Management System and also provides for 100% solid waste management and rainwater harvesting system.
TCIL has recently marked its presence in the Balkan and CLMV countries. On clearance by the Union Cabinet, Government of India, TCIL has also set up a 100% owned ‘C’ Corporation in the USA. Continuous strengthening of strategic alliances has been part of TCIL’s global strategy. What are your contributions to CSR activities? TCIL is a socially, economically and environmentally responsible organisation ensuring that all business operations are carried out sustainably. The company is constantly putting efforts towards empowering communities, enabling inclusive socio-economic growth, environment protection, development of underprivileged sections of the society and promotion of sustainable technologies.
TCIL in the coming few years will also be working towards transitioning from hardware centric systems to software centric systems, enabling virtualization, automation and machine learning. Tell us something about your staff. How do you ensure their efficiency and positivity towards work in challenging times? Valuing human resource as the core driver of any business and ensuring their suitable and meritorious recognition holds the potential to act as a catapult for the firm. With TCIL operating in a sector that witnesses emerging technologies at the break of every dawn, we make sure of providing relevant training to our staff for their consistent skill upgradation. Skill development through Telecom Sector Skill Council TCIL, in association with Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), is engaged in skill development training for the telecom sector in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This is in line with the MOU signed between DoT and Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship to develop and implement a National Action Plan for Skill Development in the sector. This program has been launched with the objective of fulfilling the skilling needs of the sector while creating opportunities for the youth. TCIL has disbursed Rs.18.82 lakhs towards the project in FY 2018-19.
4. Funding to Start-ups TCIL, in line with Government’s focus to the Indian startup industry, funded a startup M/s Lab to Market Innovations Pvt. Ltd. with an amount of Rs.8.85 lakhs. Lab to Market Innovations is a disruptive start-up in the railways sector and is currently being incubated by the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
3. Contribution towards Swachh Bharat Kosh & Clean Ganga Mission TCIL has made a direct contribution of Rs.3.63 lakhs towards Swachh Bharat Kosh & Clean Ganga Mission covered under item-I (improving sanitation) and item-V (improving sanitation) of the Schedule VII of the Companies Act respectively.
Mention a couple of your favorite books/ novels that have taught you the intricacies of the business. ‘Turn the Ship Around!’ by L. David Marquet is my all-time favourite book which talks about how the Santa Fe Fleet of the US Navy was turned around from being the worst to the first by changing the leadership strategy. The payoff is striking - Leadership should mean giving control rather than taking control, and creating leaders rather than forging followers. ‘The Effective Executive’ by Peter F. Drucker is my all-time go to book and I am glad that it is also a favourite book of Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon. Currently I am reading a book by TV Rao titled “Managers who make a difference.” Other than this I also read a lot of DIY books and literature both in Hindi and English. For instance, we work in an organization and we must work with someone or for others. To be able to mutually attain our goals we must have the ability to relate to others in an effective way. To achieve smashing heights in careers, leadership, and management traits are so necessary. In the modern world, Soft skills are only one that can forge you as a good leader.

We get inspired by other successful people and think their skills have god gifted. It might be true or not. Some are born with these skills and certain have to practice being good leaders. Always keep in mind John Kennedy’s quote “Learning and leadership are vital to each other.” Being a good leader, we must have management skills. Today we are going to discuss these topics that will help you to enhance leadership and management. Also, just reading is not enough you have to implement by yourself.

WHAT ARE LEADERSHIP AND MANAGEMENT SKILLS? Here I am going to split these topics into twopart so that we can understand each section very well. First, leadership skills are an excellent quality that aids in organization. As we say the word “leadership” first, most people create a figure in mind, they think of a domineering, takecharismatic individual. Because we have read history. They also think, having a big position is known as leadership. I was reading Forbes news a writer his name Kevin Kruse, he has written seniority or one’s post in the hierarchy of an organization are completely different and there is no such thing to do with. In fact, without having a great position we can be a leader in the place where we live, our neighborhood, and in our family. Again, what makes us a leader? The former CEO and founder of Microsoft Bill Gates said that “As we look ahead into the next century, leaders can be those who empower others.” John Maxwell: “leadership is the influence, nothing more or nothing less.” In a simple way, we can say that any individual who maximizes the effort for others. That is called leadership. Having management skills, it helps you to achieve the goal easily and most important on time. Suppose that you are executive of an organization. your duties should be, process the task in order and full fill the demand in the company. Also, the origination member expects from you that you will able to perform executive duties in the organization while ignoring the crisis and promptly solving problems. The skills can be enhanced by learning and practical experience as a manager. Management skills aid the manager to relate to their co-works. Also, having this skill you know how to deal with subordinate or client that allows for an effortless flow of activities in the organization. Overall, I would say the skills are vital for any organization to grow rapidly. WHAT SKILLS REQUIRED TO BE A GOOD LEADER AND MANAGER? I have seen so many motivational speeches they have their own definition. But what I most like the way John C Maxwell definition “leadership is the one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way.” A good leader should have the ability to turn the idea into real-world success stories. Here are the top 10 leadership qualities which make a good leader.
HONESTY AND INTEGRITY • American president Dwight. D. Eisenhower once said, “The supreme quality of leadership is unquestionably integrity.” without it, you are too fat to arrive. It doesn’t matter whether it is a football field or in an office. Honesty and integrity are two crucial elements which will help us to become a good leader. Real leader sticks with their core beliefs. For your information, without ethics, it could not be possible. CONFIDENCE • realization of one’s own potential and self-confidence in one’s ability, one can build a better world.” ----: Dalai Lama: ---you want to be an effective leader. Then you must be more confident so that other people can follow your lead. Having doubts about decisions or qualities, then your subordinates will never consider your decision. That doesn’t mean you need to be overconfident. What I want to say, you have to show some ability with confidence so that your followers can trust you. INSPIRE OTHERS • your voice and inspire others to find theirs” ---: Stephen Covey: • is a tough job to persuade any individual to follow. That’s why a leader inspires their follower by setting a good example. When they feel stuck in some situations. they listen to the leader’s voice and get inspired. They only want to know how a leader reacts to the situation. As a leader, stay always positive with this aptitude approach should be visible by action. 17

If they are doing well. you should appreciate their work or give big applause so that they can feel so confident to do the next task. If not or they are struggling so much. You should make them feel their mistakes and give them some tips to improve accountability. I’m sure they will be happy and serious about business.

It could be very difficult for you to get the real outcome of what you expect. By communicating with the team if you are unable to deliver the message effectively. You won’t be a good leader anymore. A good leader always talks effortlessly and subordinates get convinced all the time. Here I want to say that words have the ability to do whatever you want to. GOOD PLANNING starting any project, we need a strong plan that will describe the cost of employees, how long does it take, deadline project, and many others. the manger exactly does. A good manager makes a strategy according to the project, then choose those employees who are able to finish the project before meeting deadline, identify and setting achievement goal.

GREAT DECISIONS-MAKER a decision is more important for a manager. A good manager makes the proper and right decision that shows the success of the organization. While poor decisions may create a nightmare for the company. if organization members want to run the company effectively and smoothly. They require a good manager who can make a clear decision without having doubt. A manager who can be accountable for each decision. SHORTING OUT THE PROBLEMS this is a very crucial skill that can improve manager position. The manager must have the ability to control the frequent problems before going out of the hand. In a workday, the manager tries to identify the problems then find a way to get the most effective solution. However, it will take time to be a good problem solver. Also, you should work not as duties. you have to work as a passion. MOTIVATING SKILL you are working in origination as a manger. you should know how to motivate the team so that they can perform well. Also, you have to improve behaviour and motivational skill which show seriousness about the organization. You have to use motivation tactics in a various way, make sure that your team is giving a big effort to bring a solution. DELEGATION a manger you have to choose to handle a team. Having a workload, it requires a great production team. A good manager knows how to re-assign or re-locate the employees. If you are a manager with great delegation skill can re-assign any task and offer authority to true employees. This skill will help you reduce the wastage of time and optimize your productivity as well. HOW CAN WE CORRELATE THESE TWO SKILLS? Peter Druker once said that “Management is doing things right; leadership is doing the right things.” Leadership skills and management

Yes, it is important to match the need for audiences. Photography tells a story, but telling the right story isn’t easy. Capturing successful content begins with knowing your target audience. Every detail in the frame such as light, tone, composition, color, and so on. It communicates something to the audience and makes them feel a certain way. So, these details must be intentional and built on an understanding of your audience’s preferences and expectations. You simply cannot achieve this using stock photography. 9. At one time, it was thought that regression was a fault, but it is intact a very necessary activity in efficient reading. Hereby, this is important to be efficient to be a good reader. If you want to be able to read books faster, the secret is simply to practice under timed conditions and serenity. This means that you should give yourself a certain amount of time to read with proper understanding, then check your time if you have finished. Please walk us through your company profile and your services. Rossell Techsys is the Aerospace and Defense (A&D) Division of Rossell India Ltd. Started in 2011 in Bangalore, entrusted to my care, Rossell Techsys has grown into a credible and dependable partner in India for the supply of Interconnect solutions and Electrical Panel assemblies, which go into military platforms of global companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin. Apart from this, Rossell has developed Line Replaceable Units (LRUs), which meet Aerospace standards and has also provided multiple Automatic Test Equipments (ATEs) to support the needs of customers in India. Operating from a facility of approximately 87,000 sq. ft. at Whitefield in Bangalore, we have created two ‘Centers of Excellence’ for two of our prestigious customers, providing exclusivity of resources and best-in-class infrastructure and facilities.

This has been a hugely successful endeavour conducted through the Rossell School of Learning (RSL). In this initiative, Rossell has played the role of Industry champion and has sponsored the ‘Learn and Earn’ training scheme where students earn stipend while they receive training. Fifth batch of fresh diploma holders is undergoing training under this ‘Learn and Earn’ program to groom them to become industry-ready. NTTF Bangalore is the academic partner to Rossell in this CSR initiative. Apart from work, what else do you like to spend your time doing? I enjoy sharing my life experiences with all staff members in an open and transparent manner. Showing my own vulnerabilities and imperfections helps them to overcome their challenges. My primary focus is the welfare and wellbeing of over 400+ families of Rossellites who form our backbone of success. I always think of ways to improve the Quality of life of our staff and their conversion to truly Global Citizens who can act locally while thinking globally. Success is all about making a difference in people’s lives and in turn our society and environment. In my leisure time, I enjoy listening to western instrumental music and spiritual discourses.
What does the future hold for the company? Apart from moving into our own state-of-the-art facility in Aerospace and Defense Hitech Park, in Bangalore, Rossell shall aim to grow organically as well as inorganically in India and globally. Rossell has already signed up teaming agreements with companies in the US and Israel and continues to look out for future partnerships and establishing business relationships of strategic importance. Lastly, what message would you like to give to the readers of the Business Connect magazine? To achieve anything in life, it is absolutely essential to remain committed to a cause. No matter what the challenges are− embrace tenacity and perseverance. Don’t get distracted by failures and stay focused on the end objective. Nothing is impossible. At the same time, it is very essential to be grounded, not be taken up with successes, and to be wary of pride. It has never served anyone good. Lastly, it is good to focus on collective success which actually gives joy and is the pathway to growth.
