Crazy for You

Presented by Paradise Community Theatre

Music and Lyrics by George & Ira Gershwin Book by Ken Ludwig

Director: Rachel Haider, Music Director: Will McIntyre, Choreographers: Mary Hahn & Megan Proft

JULY 12, 13, 18, 19 & 20, AT 7:30PM

JULY 14 & 21 AT 2PM

Members: $18 / Non-Members: $20 / Students: $14

A zany rich-boy-meetshometown-girl romantic comedy, Crazy For You tells the story of young New York banker Bobby Child, who is sent to Deadrock, Nevada, to foreclose on a rundown theatre. In Deadrock, Bobby falls for spunky Polly Baker, the theatre owner’s daughter. But Polly takes an instant dislike to the city slicker, so Bobby vows – through cunning, razzmatazz, and a hilarious case of mistaken identity – to win Polly’s heart and save the theatre. Memorable Gershwin tunes from the score include “I Got Rhythm,” “Naughty Baby,” “They Can’t Take That Away from Me,” “Embraceable You,” “But Not for Me,” “Nice Work If You Can Get It” and “Someone to Watch Over Me.” Who could ask for anything more?

Bad Bad Hats

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 20 AT 7:30PM

Member: $20 / Non-Member: $25 / Student: $15

Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band consists of Kerry Alexander and Chris Hoge. Named after the trouble-making character from the Madeline children’s books, Bad Bad Hats is defined by a balance of sweet and sour. Their music honors classic pop

songwriting, with nods to nineties rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity. Through it all, Alexander’s unflinchingly sincere lyrics cut to the emotional heart of things.

This is a family story about kindness, empathy, and the extraordinary lengths we can go for the people (or pigs) we love. The Children’s Literature Association named Charlotte’s Web “the best American children’s book of the past two hundred years,” and playwright Joseph Robinette, working with the advice of the book’s author E.B. White, has created a play that captures this work in a thrilling and magical fashion. All the enchanting characters from the classic book are here: Wilbur, the irresistible young pig who desperately wants to avoid the butcher; Fern, a girl who understands what animals say to each other; Templeton, the gluttonous rat who can occasionally be talked into a good deed; and, most of all, the extraordinary spider, Charlotte, who proves to be “a true friend and a good writer.” Determined to save Wilbur, Charlotte begins her campaign to help her friend and tell the story of “some pig” that has enthralled generations of readers and theatergoers.
