ST. ANNE'S APPLEFEST

Saturday, September 13, 2014

Welcome!

As you enter the Applefest grounds this year, you will notice a Welcome tent. We invite you to pick up a schedule of events for this two-day festival that not only shows what and when activities are going on, but includes a map of the grounds so you are sure to get to the right place at the correct times. The Welcome tent will also serve as the First Aid location, Lost and Found, and the place to get questions answered.

Parking

If you’ve come to Applefest previous years, you are probably familiar with how the grounds were laid out. Well, we’ve done some things differently this year and I think you will agree with these improvements. Parking will now be channeled around the garage sale. This will enhance traffic control and increase safety of Applefest attendees. Don’t worry, we will provide a drop-off and pick-up area and there will be handicapped parking for those displaying Handicapped Parking identification. As in other years, parking attendees will be on duty to direct traffic in and out of the Applefest grounds.

Golf-Wine-Cheese Saturday, 2pm-4pm

What do they have in common? They will all be at Applefest 2014 in one area of the festival grounds on Saturday, September 20 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. This is a NEW Applefest event. We’re challenging you to hit a golf ball closest to the pin. There is a small fee to enter, but if you’re the winner there will be a reward at the end. You can enter as many times as you want. Of course, in addition to the competition, you may be ‘egged’ on by supporters and non-supporters alike, while they sit back and sample wine and cheese pairings or other food and beverages available at the beer and concession stands.

Garage Sale

Saturday: 8am-7 pm, Sunday: 8am-3pm

You can’t beat a good garage sale and Applefest has the biggest one around. It starts at 8 a.m. on Saturday at the school. You won’t believe the quality, quantity and variety of merchandise on this garage sale. You can’t beat the prices. Of course you may want to get there early for the best selection.

Let’s face it – if you can’t find what you’re looking for at the Applefest Garage Sale, you probably don’t need it.

Silent Auction Saturday: 9am-8pm, Sunday: 9am-2pm

The Applefest Silent Auction is a mainstay of this event. It is big - really big - (with nearly 200 items) and it is the BEST with great quality and variety of auction items and it is managed to perfection. You can find unique, one-of-a-kind items; antique and collectibles; handmade items; furniture; toys, and more. You might also see photographs taken by local, featured photographers; handmade quilts; sporting goods and wine. There truly is something for everyone. The auction runs Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Be sure to get your final bids in before closing time and while you wait to learn if you are a successful bidder, you can enjoy other aspects of Applefest. If you’re wondering what else is going on, we have more fun apple activities for you.

We’ve always had bingo, but this year’s bingo will be bigger and better than ever. This is a very popular event and fans wanted to see more of it. Open Mic

Saturday, 7pm-9pm

When you’re through with the Saturday activities and after you enjoy fun games of bingo, you can cap off the evening at the Open Mic event. This is the third year for Open Mic and it gets bigger and better each year. So, what is Open Mic? It’s an opportunity for you or a group to show off your abilities with song, dance, juggling, comedy or other demonstrations of your talents. So, you think you can’t sing or dance? Then, come watch and enjoy the acts. Performers love and need an audience. They and we would love to see you there.

Outdoor Masses

Saturday, 5:15pm, Sunday Polka Mass, 10:30am

Yes, we have two of them. The Saturday evening Mass is at 5:15 p.m. on the concrete pad behind the school. This year music will be provided by the Bemmels/Mage’s family. If you like the upbeat sound of gospel/country/soft rock, don’t miss it. It will put a whole different touch on the traditional music at Mass. Well, if you prefer Sunday Mass, we have that at Applefest too. Come for 10:30 Mass in front of the Parish Center and enjoy an old fashioned Polka Mass. I caution you to get there a little early because the chairs fill up fast. Father George is always in charge of the weather for Applefest and he hasn’t failed in seeing to it that we have had exceptional weather each year. Now, I do not doubt that Father George won’t come through again this year, but if it should rain, the 10:30 Polka Mass will be at the church.

5K Walk/Run

Saturday, Registration: 7am, Run Start: 8am

This is the second year for the 5K walk/run and it has many more participants this year. So, you’re probably thinking you can’t run 5K (3.1 miles)? Remember, this is a walk/run. You can walk the whole way if you want. Registration forms can be found on the Le Sueur News Herald website under the Applefest banner or you can register on the day of the race at 7 a.m. Just remember the registration tables will close at 7:45 a.m. because the race starts promptly at 8 a.m. If you missed the September 1 deadline for registering and getting a T-Shirt, you can still register and run the race for a registration fee of $15. This year, Kelcey Carlson, a news anchor at KMSP TV (Channel 9) is joining the race. Kelcey enjoys running and intends to bring her whole family with her. So, join Kelcey to give Applefest a good running start for a wonderful weekend of good times among good friends.
