WORST

INJURY

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Tear is injury that you lost your one of your ligaments in your knee, it’s a front cover ligament of your legs. You will get it when you twist your leg when you fall and the ligament couldn’t make it.

Osteoarthritis of the Hip is like other joints that carry your weight, your hips may be at risk for “wear and tear” arthritis (osteoarthritis), the most common form of the disease. The smooth and glistening covering (articular cartilage) on the ends of your bones that helps your hip joint glide may wear thin.

Plantar fasciitis (fashee-EYE-tiss) is the most common cause of pain on the bottom of the heel. Plantar fasciitis occurs when the strong band of tissue that supports the arch of your foot becomes irritated and inflamed. You will get it when you get wrong landing position and landed with your heel first. 9 Thrasher

PRO’S STORY

SEAN MALTO

“ROllED ANKLE”

This year Sean Malto has been through something big, he got a serious injury that shock him. That was his first serious injury of his skate life. He calls it “ankle roll from hell”. He was doing check spot as usual for some footage. The spot was fountain it was like three-block. It was may be the size of 10 stairs. He was being kicked out from the spot. It was his fifth try, after bailed for few times. Unfortunately, he landed too late. He landed with his back foot first while the front foot wasn’t even on the ground. He came down 10 stairs with his back foot. He just realized that he broke one of his ankles. The blood was come out from every single hole that his shoes have. After reached the hospital he did a minor surgery.

The result was the ankle not broken. He tore up the skin until the thing that we shouldn’t see came out. Luckily, there was no fracture or any ligament torn. The doctor was surprised that he never broke his ankle while the skin is torn up. So it means that Sean Malto has to hang the board until he get recovered, and spend the time doing other thing while doing the rehab for his speedy recovery. So, cheer up for Sean Malto. Shred it rad and play safe!

RYAN DECENZO

“TWISTED ANKLE”

In mid-January 2013, professional skateboarder Ryan Decenzo faced an ankle injury that put his career on hold. The Canadian-raised athlete broke his fibula, a calf bone, while skateboarding, after he tried to stop quickly down a hill. After the injury, Decenzo came to DISC Sports & Spine to meet with orthopedic surgeon Dr. Andrew Bulczynski. “I just wanted to stop right away and see if everyone was alright took my foot off the board. And just the way it hit the ground and how tired I was,” Decenzo said. “It just bent to the side and just popped.” It happened after he watched filmer Ricki the Dude take a bad fall while skating with a group. The filmer fell and hit his head, ending up with a fractured skill. About 30-40 feet behind the crash was Decenzo, who then tried to avoid the crash scene.

For the next two months after surgery, Decenzo rehabbed his ankle at the Soft Tissue Center with Dr. Joseph Horrigan and Dr. Jeremy Summers. “Skateboarding has a lot of injuries,” he said, “especially if you’re pushing your own personal limits all the time.” “If you’re pushing it really hard and you’re overusing your body and muscle, it just gets easier to fall. When you do fall, the consequences are worse,” he added. Six months after surgery, Decenzo placed second in the SLS Select series at X Games Munich. With success on his mind, he continues to train hard and push his limits.

RYAN SHECKLER

“BROKEN HEEL”

Back on 2012, Ryan Sheckler had big injury while he was in tour with Plan B for the next skate film. He got a quite serious injury. He broke his heel when doing a hardflip drop in from 15 stairs. That time was a check spot together for the audience with the Plan B pros. He landed few tricks before he tried the hardflip and wrong landed. He landed with his heel first while the entire foot hasn’t touched the ground yet. Luckily, he had a cushion on the shoes so it reduced some impact that actually he had to get. The doctor said that he needed to take a rest for a few months. He got broke some muscles on the heel, but luckily didn’t have any fractures.

After that happened, he just enjoying a few days left on the tour. So he hanged up from skateboarding and continue filmed his own show series with Redbull without skating. Now he already shred like how’s Sheckler supposed to be. With his frontside kickflip still waiting for the next win on him.

DAVID GONZALEZ

“MCL TEAR”

Last year, before he got a “Skater of The Year” from Thrasher he got a serious injury. It was Medial Collateral Ligament (MCL) tear. It happened after he tried to ollie backside 360 from a huge gap. He succeed did ollie on first attempt and doing backside 180 on second attempt. The gap was quite huge and his unlucky day. So he accidentally slipped out when he tried to land on the trick. He did full speed for this spot because the gap is quite huge and he landed without his backfoot on the board, so the front foot with the board drag him away while the backfoot touch the ground. It’s like almost split out. Luckily he got fast response on it and did surgery and rehab so he could comeback. And now he already shred as wild as usual till he got “Skater of The Year” last year.
