Apparently, Oscar Wilde used to take his pet lobster for walks. Equally strange is that the search for The Christmas Lobster is on, only to be found at Farnham Maltings. I hope you can join us for this hilarious new show produced by us, with Bucket Club, premiering on Wed 13 December. We would also love families to join us in September for our first family festival – lots of free workshops and drop-in activities for children, delicious food, and a magic show. It’s going to be a lot of fun!

Autumn is also one of the busiest seasons in our craft festival calendar. Unravel returns with our autumn edition, celebrating all things yarn. This will be followed in October by festival of crafts with beautiful, handcrafted designs from over 75 talented makers, and part of Farnham’s celebrated Craft Month. The christmas fair wraps up the year and is the perfect place to find something for everyone on your list.

Finally, if you want to take a punt on something different, here’s a recommendation –an adaptation of Gabriel Garcia Marquez’s A Very Old Man with Enormous Wings which was a huge success at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. There’s a lot going on this autumn, kicking off with a film about the patriarchy, existentialism, and capitalism... yes, you’ve guessed it, Barbie.

We hope to see you soon at the Maltings.

farnham world craft town

Craft has always been part of the cultural fabric of Farnham. From prehistoric times to the provision of clay and ceramics for the Romans to the internationally renowned makers who call Farnham home today.

In 2019, Farnham Maltings and Farnham Town Council partnered together on an application to the World Crafts Council to have Farnham designated a World Craft Town in recognition of the special role that craft plays in our community. It is our celebration of craft that makes Farnham unique, from domestic crafts to high-end gallery pieces.

Farnham is part of an international network of creative craft cities, but has developed strong relationships with the European Craft Cities; Bornholm (Denmark), Harris Tweed (Scotland), Kilkenny (Ireland) and La Bisbal d’Empordà (Spain).

The Secret Garden Café will be open for light refreshments on certain event days, where you can enjoy tea, coffee, and cake in our idyllic walled garden.
