WELCOME

welcome As we approach our fiftieth year we are, perhaps inevitably, reflecting on how far we have come since a few good people had the foresight to save these buildings for the common good of the town. I hope our current efforts would meet with their approval and that we have stayed true to that original ambition – to be a cultural centre for all the people of the town. Any success we might have had has been possible because of the unwavering support of our two most local authorities, Waverley Borough Council and Farnham Town Council, and because of a committed staff team and a host of generous volunteers who give so freely of their time. I think we have become, or are becoming, an organisation that is particular to Farnham and contributes to the shape and character of the town. We are now known for flourishing craft festivals, a growing contemporary performance programme and a set of sometimes unlikely partnerships. It was one of the joys of the summer to see the first UCA students in Acting and Performance graduate, having become such an integral part of the Maltings. Equally delightful was the group of local women who performed their own piece Till Then at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking before New Adventures’ Cinderella. Learn techniques on how to use the fude (brush) with sumi (ink) on washi (paper) to make the strokes and marks that are used to write kana and kanji (Japanese characters). Learn how to build up these marks to create a finished piece of work. In Japan Shodo is regarded as one of the core traditional Japanese crafts, developed over the last 16 centuries, it is used as a meditative tool to achieve a calm mind. For ages 12+. Japanese Tenkoku – Stone Seal Carving

Stone seals have been used in East Asia for thousands of years, similar to wax seals used in Europe, they are used as a decorative signature to seal letters and sign artwork.
