January – April 2015
welcome We live, as they say, in interesting times. One in which we need to demonstrate our usefulness to as wide a community as possible if we are to retain the public’s support for the things we do. It is worth restating that the Maltings covers all of its operating costs from earned income, which allows us to develop partnerships with Waverley Borough Council, Farnham Town Council, the Arts Council and others to deliver particular ambitions. To work with young people both here and across the borough on Arts Award, to run a programme of work with the Alzheimer’s Society and to support the most talented theatre makers to create new touring theatre for the region – all to ensure Farnham is a vibrant, happy place to live. We have launched a Patrons scheme as a simple way for people and local businesses to support us in contributing to the quality of people’s lives. Much of this work is ‘invisible’, often happening outside the buildings closer to where people live. And yet, for us it is some of the most rewarding. We are working with the University of the Creative Arts to deliver a degree in acting and performance, with Surrey County Council to develop Farnham Craft Town and with the Royal Court to tour a play from their current season to village halls. Still much to keep us interested. Gavin Stride Director
