January – April 2018
welcome It is something of a confession to admit that it is only when the brochure comes out that I am fully aware of the extraordinary range of things that take place here! Like you, I will go through the programme thinking I might come to this or that event, which is testament to all the people who bring the whole thing together; from the team here who are constantly looking to make the most of the resources we have to the vast array of individuals and organisations who choose to work with us. When I first arrived at the Maltings I suggested to a meeting of our members that ‘Farnham would get the cultural organisation that it deserves’. What I was attempting to suggest is that we should move away from a service model, in which we decide everything, to one in which we create a safe, welcoming place in which anyone who wants to can make something happen. That is as true today. Which is why I delight in seeing the acting and performing arts degree students sitting in the same space as a group of quilters or young mothers. Or how constantly surprised I am at how quickly our duty officers turn the building round from a theatre performance ready for a craft fair the next morning. If you would like to get involved, talk about a particular type of event or just find out more about us, get in touch. Thanks Gavin Stride Director
This spring programme is dedicated to the memory of Pam Leggatt ( Woodroffe) who worked tirelessly for over 10 years as the Chair of the Council of Management, championing the Maltings as the cultural heart of the town. Without her enthusiasm and care we would all be the poorer. cover illustration : ellen giggenbach www . ellengiggenbach . com

MUSEUM OF FARNHAM
museum of farnham ¡ 38 West Street Visit the Museum of Farnham to discover Farnham’s history, from its prehistoric roots to its hop growing boom and Victorian grandeur. The Museum is also home to an extensive art and craft collection thanks to the many artists and crafts workers who have been drawn to Farnham over the years. The Museum is located in a beautiful early Georgian town house, complete with many original features and a stunning walled garden hidden away behind the museum. Built in 1718 by a wealthy hop-grower, Willmer House is one of the many architectural gems in the town and well worth a visit for any lover of historic buildings. In addition to its permanent displays the Museum features four temporary exhibitions a year and a varying programme of events for all the family. The Museum of Farnham has been part of Farnham Maltings since 2012. Together we work to provide engaging, enjoyable and imaginative events and exhibitions to reach as many people as possible. In 2018 we will be celebrating the 300th anniversary of Willmer House, the home of the Museum of Farnham. This is a huge milestone for the Museum, and we would like to mark the occasion in style. We have planned a series of events to take place over the course of the year, including an anniversary exhibition co-curated by Potters Gate School. A special fundraising gala will be held in May, and a Georgians and Gin themed event later in the year. Our usual range of family-friendly summer activities will be given the Georgian touch, and our summer Archaeology exhibition will help you discover the history beneath the feet of Willmer House.

International
We work with a number of companies and individual artists in the production of their work, sometimes as a collaboration or in co-production.
We run caravan, a programme of work designed to encourage England based theatre makers to think and work internationally. caravan encompasses a biennial showcase in partnership with Brighton Festival, on-going and one-off projects with international partners and professional development opportunities for artists.
Touring We tour our own work and that of our associate companies, support a network of rural venues across Surrey and are continuing to build relationships with small scale theatres and art centres. We deliver house, a programme designed to meet the ambitions of venues to increase audiences and improve the range, quality and scale of theatre being presented across the south east of England. housetheatre.org.uk
