WELCOME
welcome It would be impossible to write this introduction without reference to the fact that 50 years ago a group of local people rescued these buildings as a community asset for the town. I don’t expect, for one minute, that they could have imagined all the experiences, friendships, learning and sheer pleasure that would result from that simple decision. For me it is a reminder, in a time when I feel increasingly uncertain about the world and our influence in it, that small actions can make a big difference. I have decided to focus my energies on the things I can do something about. Yes, we need to value and care for these buildings, but equally important is how we put them to use, the activities and opportunities we offer, the partnerships we form and the ways in which we help others to achieve their own ambitions. We are certain that we can contribute to the shape and character of the town. We know we haven’t arrived, that we need to constantly adapt, test new ideas and improve all that we do. But we think it is one small step to making our world better. Gavin Stride Director

On arrival, they discover to Sid and Bernie’s disappointment, everyone is fully clothed! Cert. PG, 85 mins. The Royal Opera House Live: Faust Tue 30 April 6.45pm · £15
SCREENING
There are many versions of the story of Faust, who trades his soul with the Devil for youth and power, but Gounod’s opera remains one of the most constantly enthralling. Virtuoso leading roles, a large chorus, sensational sets, ballet and an ecstatic finale make this the epitome of theatrical spectacle – the lavish scale of French grand opera is wonderfully in evidence in this production by David McVicar, set in 1870s Paris. 225 mins approx.

Built in 1718 by a wealthy hop-grower, Willmer House is one of the many architectural gems in the town and well worth a visit for anyone who loves historic buildings. In addition to its permanent displays the Museum presents four temporary exhibitions a year and a varying programme of events for all the family. MUSEUM OF FARNHAM
museum of farnham · exhibitions This spring we celebrate and commemorate in equal measure. We celebrate the 50th anniversary of Farnham Maltings and its contribution to the life of the town and beyond. Our temporary exhibition commemorates the 60th anniversary of the death of Mike Hawthorn who died in a car accident in 1959. He was the first British driver to win the Formula One World Championship and spent much of his life living in Farnham. As our minds start to look forward to longer, warmer days, our thoughts also turn to tea, coffee and cakes in the garden. This Easter we will be opening our café on Thursdays and Saturdays 12pm–3.30pm in the museum’s gorgeous 18th-century walled garden. Come and join us to relax, unwind and eat delicious treats!

Farnham Maltings works with south east-based artists and companies to help make the best work possible. In support of craft and fine artists we manage a range of studio spaces and offer training and networking opportunities. For theatre companies we provide one-to-one advice sessions, residency and R&D space, tour booking and financial management. Visit our theatre microsite: theatre.farnhammaltings.com Producing and commissioning
International
We work with a number of companies and individual artists in the production of their work, sometimes as a collaboration or in co-production.
We run caravan – a programme of work designed to encourage England-based theatre makers to think and work internationally. caravan encompasses a biennial showcase in partnership with Brighton Festival, on-going and one-off projects with international partners and professional development opportunities for artists.
Touring We tour our own work and that of our associate companies, support a network of rural venues across Surrey and are continuing to build relationships with small scale theatres and art centres. We deliver house – a programme designed to meet the ambitions of venues to increase audiences and improve the range, quality and scale of theatre being presented across the south east of England. www.housetheatre.org.uk
