WELCOME

welcome Itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s worth marking, in our fiftieth year, that the Maltings is in good health. We are busier than ever, the performance programme goes from strength to strength, the craft festivals are flourishing, the Riverside CafĂŠ is busy and we have invested significantly in improving the buildings. I want to thank every single person who has contributed to getting us here. It is a self-evident truth that each member of staff, volunteer, board member and audience member has contributed to all that we are now. One of the delights of working from the Maltings is that we are not a purpose built state-of-the-art building, which allows us the freedom to respond to the changing expectations of our community and a fast changing world. So this summer we are launching outdoor cinema in the courtyard, continuing with Bring Your Own Baby Comedy each month and starting a Farnham Men in Sheds project. I am genuinely excited about where we might go and what we might become over the next half century. maltings at 50: Sat 11 May 10am–5pm what’s on In the Great Hall At 11am and 2pm our Great Hall will play host to ‘Ignite’ – a show which combines live performances and films showcasing the work of our community engagement partnership groups including Next Adventures, Junior Maltings, The Young Company, The Dance Movement, Stopgap Dance Company and A Place to Be. No ticket required, just turn up. In the East Wing Your chance to dabble in a new craft with our own experienced tutors. A whole day of taster workshops in willow weaving, jewellery making, papercutting art, lino printing, wirework sculpture, and more. Plus workshops for children and adults to craft together – shibori indigo dye, frame weaving or get messy with printing techniques. Reserve a place on our website for £5 (redeemable against a future workshop booking). In the Tindle Studio A series of talks throughout the day, designed to get us thinking. Three panels of local speakers will chat about the history and future of the Maltings and wider Farnham. Alongside these panels you can hear from our resident puppeteer, Max Humphries, our theatre venue network house and Little Bulb Theatre produced by the Maltings. museum of farnham · exhibitions This summer we look to go back to our roots and take our visitors on a journey through the history of Farnham, in an exhibition titled A Brief History of Farnham. Opening in June, Chapter 1 of the exhibition The Ground Beneath Our Feet explores prehistoric Farnham, through to the Civil War using archaeological finds. Then in August, Chapter 2 opens – A Georgian at 38 West Street, telling the story of Georgian Farnham using a set dressed room in the museum. Learn more about the house itself and the people of the town. Chapter 3 – God Save the Queens will open in October and take you from the beginning of Queen Victoria’s reign through to today’s times under Queen Elizabeth II. As the warmer weather arrives, so does our pop-up café now called The Secret Garden Café.
