thread... a festival of textiles programme

Sat 08 June 2024

A celebration of all things textiles, from sewing and macramé to printing and embroidery.

welcome

Welcome textile enthusiasts to our 12th annual thread festival. We hope you enjoy your day joining with other like-minded crafters to learn new skills, meet the experts and to re-stock your fabric and haberdashery stash.

This programme will help you get the best out of your visit. There are over 65 stalls in thread’s curated marketplace where you can buy from your favourite fabric shops, stitching vendors, and haberdashers. Our stallholders are experts in their field and are on hand to inspire whether you’re a crafting newbie or an experienced maker.

Did you know that 2024 is the International Year of Batik? At almost 2000 years old, it is the oldest resist method of decorating fabric! Find out more from batik artist and Overseas Representative of the Batik Guild, Rosi Robinson, as part of our free programme of talks running throuhgout the day.

Join the free drop-in sessions in the undercroft and learn how to weave a coaster with Farnham Crafts Quarter, and discover the art of Kumihimo, a traditional Japanese artform of making braids and cords with Mairi Gillies. Enjoy the display of fashion and textiles by students from Farnbrough College of Technology in the Long Kiln Gallery.

We look forward to welcoming you!
