unravel... a festival of yarn programme Fri 23 - Sun 25 February 2024 A celebration of all things yarn making, from knitting and crochet to spinning and weaving.

welcome We are delighted to welcome you to unravel, and invite you to join us to embrace all things yarn! Whether this is your first time with us, or you have been a fan of the festival for many years, we would like to take the opportunity to thank you for your support. We are excited to have 78 independent producers, hailing from across the UK and Europe, all under one roof in our curated marketplace. This presents a fantastic opportunity to meet leading names from the knitting fraternity and discover new emerging hand dyers and designers. Many of our exhibitors have created products especially for unravel, so do keep an eye out for those as you browse the stalls. Don’t miss our limited edition canvas tote bags, featuring this year’s illustration by artist Jessie Wong. These are available to buy in the maltings store. In need of a break from the hustle and bustle? Why not attend one of our free talks with expert crafters in the New Wenham Room. Grab a coffee or light lunch and admire the exhibition in the Riverside Café by textile artist Laura Rose Kimber, or take part in a free drop-in session and learn how to make a ‘scrappy jumper’! Do keep us in the loop, show us what you get up to at the festival, share your stashes, WIPs and upcoming projects by tagging @unravelfestival or use #unravelfestival2024. We hope you enjoy the festival as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together! Madeleine, Jo & Caroline The Craft Team at Farnham Maltings

Free talks sponsored by Proud supporter of

Farnham was granted World Craft Town status in June 2020 by the World Craft Council following a successful application by Farnham Maltings and Farnham Town Council. The award is in recognition of the special role that craft plays in our community. Every October we hold a month long celebration of craft. This month we are very lucky to be hosting an artist residency and welcome glass artist Fiona Byrne from Ireland.

free drop-in session Learn how to make ‘the scrappy jumper’ with Esme Rose. Esme is a multi-disciplinary artist and UCA digital art graduate. She knits and crochets to create free-form garments, using different weights and types of yarn. Esme demonstrates how we can use leftover yarn to create a new garment out of what would have been ‘waste’.

Textile graduate Laura Rose is a resident artist in our studios at Farnham Maltings, where she produces her exquisite and utterly unique collections. Taking inspiration from children’s stories, dolls houses, fairy tales, vintage shops, antique markets. The exhibition will run until Thu 29 February.

Our wonderful community craft group, Nimble Fingers, have worked together to create a special unravel installation. Made up of 94 knitted and crocheted fish, of all different shapes and sizes, suspended from hoops made by willow weaver Judith Needham.

Don’t miss your chance to scoop up a limited edition tote bag which features our ramen yarn bowl. Need to refuel? Then why not swap the yarn and needles, for noodles and chopsticks. Pop into the Riverside Café for a bowl of delicious homemade ramen.

riverside café The café operates from both the foyer and riverside and there is ample seating in both areas. There is also outdoor seating available on our patio. Choose from homemade soups served with artisan sourdough, open Danish sandwiches and freshly made main dishes. Our regular selection of hot and cold drinks are available together with fresh pastries from our supplier SØDT bakery. We can cater for gluten free diets and other special dietary requirements, please speak to a server.
