autumn programme

Fri 13 & Sat 14 September 2024

A celebration of all things yarn making, from knitting and crochet to spinning and weaving.

We are delighted to welcome you to unravel... autumn, where we embrace all things yarn! Whether this is your first time with us, or if you have been a fan of the festival for many years, we would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support.

We are excited to have 48 producers, hailing from across the UK, all under one roof in our curated marketplace. This presents a fantastic opportunity to meet leading names from the knitting fraternity and discover the best indie yarn dyers, yarn producers and notion makers from all over the UK. There’s no better time to find the perfect materials for your next project!

When you’re in need of a break from the hustle and bustle, you can attend one of our free talks with expert crafters in the Long Kiln Gallery or watch a live demonstration in the East Wing Workshop. Grab a coffee or light lunch in the Riverside Café or take part in a free drop-in session in the Undercroft. There’s plenty to fill your day with!

We also have an exciting line up of skill-based workshops and you might just be lucky and scoop a last minute spot in one of the sixteen different sessions. Please enquire at the box office for availability.

Do keep us in the loop, show us what you get up to at the festival, share your stashes, WIPs and upcoming projects by tagging @unravelfestival or use #unravelautumn2024.

We hope you enjoy the festival as much as we’ve enjoyed putting it together!

The Craft Team at Farnham Maltings

Proud supporter of:

Farnham was granted World Craft Town status in June 2020 by the World Craft Council following a successful application by Farnham Maltings and Farnham Town Council. The award is in recognition of the special role that craft plays in our community. Every October we hold a month long celebration of craft.

help make unravel’s crochet canopy

how to get involved

We have been inspired by the work of Spanish crochet teacher Eva Pacheco and her students who created a colossal canopy made up of crocheted squares.

The project began after the City Council’s Department of the Environment sought a more sustainable way to shade the hightraffic pedestrian area in the summer. Since then, Pacheco and her students have continued adding to their creation—using recycled fabric in a variety of vibrant colours—so that it now covers almost 500 square metres.

We would love to replicate this handmade installation for unravel February 2025 and have it displayed above the main entrance to Farnham Maltings. See below on how to take part in our own version of this community project.

Whether you’re a crocheter or knitter, we’d love for you to be a part of this joint community effort to produce a wonderfully colourful yarn installation.

We invite you to send in or drop off one or more granny squares, to make use of any scrap yarn you may have in your stash. Ideally we’re looking for squares that are between 10-15cm sq.

Our resident community knitting group Nimble Fingers have volunteered to help stitch the squares together in time for unravel in February, so in the spring we will have a joyful installation made possible through collaboration.
