Paris Fashion Week
// OFF-WHITE SS19 // Who the f*ck goes to the track in all-white and heels? Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner do. And they look great. Special shout-out to Kaia Gerber for showing up in Nike socks. Off-White hit the mark. This is Virgil Abloh; a perfect mix of streetwear and snakeskin. A high fashion Parisian show on a running track. Genius. Olympians mixed with Karlie Kloss and we once again redefined that gray area between black and white. It was an affirmation of freedom, a questioning of traditional gender wear, and a celebration of powerful women and minorities. The first 13 looks were head-to-toe white. I enjoyed them. They were clean, new, and an interesting mix of the new athleisure trend with highfashion. In case you’re still not sure about the mixing of Nike leggings and debutante dresses, see pictures. Bella and Kendall, in relatively similar outfits walking at the same time was a powerful feminist statement and a sweet testament to their friendship.
Then, pops of neon yellow show through. We are reminded immediately of Abloh’s Nike partnerships. Suddenly, the looks are adorned with head-to-toe neon yellow. Yes, the color of your volleyball spandex from sophomore year. But here, it works. I like how the neon creeps through the bottom of the dress in the looks to the side. Then blues, mustard yellows, beiges, and black. The colors from the show flow seamlessly together. This is a show,
where every piece is an extraordinary part of a team. It’s a wonderful play to the sporty theme. And then we end with neon yellow and black snakeskin. The only look I wasn’t a particular fan of was this weird all-blue ensemble. The velour sweatpants can go back to the 2000s; not that I didn’t love my Juicy Couture tracksuit. Seriously. This is what I look like rolling up to class, it’s not necessarily something I would judge fashionworthy of PFW. One of my favorites was this all black look. It combines a lot of the overall themes of the show: flowy dresses mixed with sportswear and tennis showers. This fashion is not hyper masculine or feminine- it finds a comfortable place in-between. Fashion here is an art, not to be constrained by being men’s or women’s fashion. Notably, the models in the show were pretty diverse for fashion. Off-White also features 8 Olympians walking. We can all remember Abloh’s collaboration for Serena Williams’ catsuit, and I think this show indicated plenty more of where that came from. Abloh makes clothes for powerful women, who define for themselves their gray area of being. In this Spring Summer 2019 show, that message shows.

The
Teddy’s Taking Over By Jada Scacco
By
this time of the year, we’ve already brought out our coats, but we still have some time before the real winter hits and parkas become an every day occurrence. Teddy bear coats have been on the rise for a couple years now, but this season it feels like they’ve completely taken over. The teddy bear coat is a celebrity and Instagram influencer favorite, seen on the likes of Hailey Baldwin (above) and Sofia Richie (next page). High-end designers and affordable brands alike have been putting out their own versions of the teddy coat, from cropped and zippered to long and lapeled. Most popularly worn in a camel color, you could get your hands on a teddy coat of pretty much any color, from grey to pink to bright red or whatever your heart desires. Maybe the most recognizable teddy coat of the year is the I Am Gia ‘Pixie Coat,’ which has generated quite a bit of buzz and seems to have taken the fashion world by storm.
The number of teddy coats being worn to class around BC’s campus is a testament to the wearability of the trend. Teddy coats are not only cozy looking and feeling, but they can be thrown over any look, no matter how casual. A teddy works just as well with a t-shirt, leggings, and sneakers as it does with a nice top, jeans, and booties. Most teddy coats are oversized, too, which is a huge trend by itself, and adds to the overall comfiness, cuteness, and easiness of the look. The teddy bear coat has proven itself to be the jacket of choice for the rude transition into the cold months. It’s earned its place as this year’s all-purpose, go-to jacket that makes a comfy look even more comfy and a trendy look even m o r e t r e n d y. I t easily qualifies as a fall favorite and must-have. If you aren’t convinced yet that teddy jackets are having a welldeserved moment right now, go try one on in a store and get back to me on that!
