The Story The Dancing in the Moonlight shoot is based off of America’s Next Top Model, Season 11 Photoshoot, “Fierce Eyes.” For this shoot we chose a team that brought their A game to all their work. We used Thomas Shelton, voted Best Hair Stylist 2012, in the Washington City Paper and Alyssa C, makeup artist with over 20 years of experience, specializing in fashion shows, red carpet events, magazines and television makeup. Marcus Kirk Photography spends countless hours turning our ideas into reality. From experimenting in our own MKP labs with new materials and textures, to designing and building our own sets using the same principles that are found in Hollywood, MKP is committed to achieving the seemingly impossible on a daily basis. As our efforts are extraordinary in our pursuit of new technologies and techniques, we continue to take great pride in being the industry leaders in planetary stewardship. With few exceptions, our studio and set lighting has been completely transformed from conventional incandescent lighting to using MKP’s patent pending Digital Lighting Array- an LED and other emerging light sources design that not only give us more vibrant and controlled shots, but reduces our carbon emissions by up to 80%! We are further committed to protecting natural beauty by using either exclusive electric, or hybrid electric vehicles. It’s another great way to do more while using fewer resources!

MAKEOVER Dave Darin, Phoenix’s local radio station KWSS host, contacted Fashion-Faces as he requested assistance toward a personal style makeover to enhance his image and provide him with the trendy guidance to push his fashion in a forward direction, while he refines the concept of his hard-rock podcast. This transition takes its swing at refashioning the cliché characteristics in order to reveal the revelation of the “new” Dave. The Fashion-Faces team collaborated with industry professionals to showcase this passage from venue male vixen to gentlemen’s quarterly rocker. Introducing the radio host to the multifaceted aspects of fashion and style, the team provided the execution of new hair color and suave style tactics, outfit recommendations, and tips to continue evolving this new image and reputation. A photo shoot was recently organized at the newly established Xara Lodge, l/o Rabat Malta, a country house fully converted to meet the modern demands for the conferences and special events. N’Mode Agency was the first entity to be entrusted to take this opportunity, and utilize the potential of this unique building and organise a fashion shoot. As part of the strategy, N’Mode always seeks for new challenges to the enrolled models. An 18 year old red haired model, Gabriella Borg, was selected for this photo shoot, under a particular theme, Gold Rush. The theme was complemented with clothing & accessories with gold touches, carefully selected by the agency fashion stylist Vicky M, in collaboration with Miss Selfridge Malta. Agency hairstylist, Dominic Bartolo, from Domdreads, made use of Gaby’s curly hair for the first part of the shoot, to sleek wet look for the second part. All this was complimented with a refined touch from Makeup artist Carole Muscat, from Beauty by Carole.M, glamour the model look, with gold touches.

Marcia McGovern

I met Marcia McGovern when I toured Kohler Academy the first time and instantly felt what I can now identify as relief. Little did I know it would be life changing for me on many levels. The decision to attend beauty school was a big one considering it was a mid-life career change for me and I assumed I would be the oldest person in the school which, even at my age, sends you right back to your high school insecurities. I walked into one of the classrooms and her welcoming smile put me at ease. I took a second tour, just to be sure, and there she was again. She was a ‘senior’ at the academy when I began so we only had 8 weeks together and that was on a different schedule. We passed in the hallways on Thursdays and that was the extent of our communication. We even became friends on Facebook but still hardly communicated due to busy schedules, children, jobs, and life.

I soon found out that this person that I now call ‘My Angel on Earth’ was a few years older than me and was also doing the midlife career change. She was the creator and owner of ‘Bouquet of Blessings’ which is a clay floral company that provided classes for local women’s groups with her instruction. These classes proved to be an amazing bonding experience for women across the East Valley. Marcia had been seeing the same hair stylist, Cindy Engstrom, for over 12 years. One day they had a discussion and Cindy encouraged Marcia to attend beauty school and then to work alongside Cindy and her business partner, Manda Johnson. Within weeks, Marcia was committed and enrolled and on the whirlwind roller coaster of beauty school and all that goes along with it. During her time there she was blessed with some of the best friendships in her classmates, also in the middle of career changes. Marcia doesn’t take or do anything lightly. Within weeks she entered “Beacon” which a national hair competition and was selected as 1 of the 100 national winners out of over 600 entries. During her time at Kohler Academy, she also studied abroad in Tokyo, Japan. See, I told you she does it big!

Marcia is now in her second year at Zynergy Salon working alongside her mentors, Cindy Engstrom and Manda Johson. Marcia cuts my hair and I always tell people, she even has a bit of a little flowing angelic dance when she’s cutting hair... How does she do that!? In the last year, Marcia has jumped into the world of editorial styling. pieces made out of nothing but hair.

One of my favorite quotes is by Maya Angelou: “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I don’t think there is a person on this earth that has interacted with Marcia McGovern for more than two minutes that will argue that no matter what, you ALWAYS feel better and brighter after spending time with her. She makes you want to be a better person without even knowing she’s doing it. Keep an eye on Marcia. With her talent and personality, you’ll be seeing a lot more of her in the future!
