“AN AMERICAN CALL TO ARMS...PUT THEM AROUND SOMEONE TODAY” Remember the way that you felt in the days following 9/11. You looked people in the face. Your cared about the way they must have felt. We could talk to anybody, and had empathy for the way that they may be impacted. There was no race. There was no Republican or Democrat. There were Americans, hurting, but with resolve. We are the same people today, as we were then. We just have to remember, and understand that even today, your brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends, the people you pass on the street, are no different now. We have just forgotten how important we are to each other. On 9/12, we were different people. Let’s be those people, every day. Yours in Fashion, David Kidd

TAKE ME HOME | UNITED STATES

http://azhumane.org

Lucky is a 7-year-old Doberman pinscher/ Rottweiler mix who is content trailing his owner around the house,

curling up next to his or her side at every opportunity. Still young at heart, he does have his active moments, particularly in the morning, when he enjoys a walk around the neighborhood. He would appreciate a big yard to sniff around but since he’s not big on play, more than likely he will wait for you to fetch a tennis ball if you throw it. He would prefer a casual lifestyle and a peaceful home where he is the only dog but he has more than enough love to share with his new forever friend. Lucky is available NOW at the Campus for Compassion located at 1521 West Dobbins Road in Phoenix. His adoption fee is only $35 and that fee includes his neuter surgery and vaccines. Lucky may have been adopted by the time you visit the shelter and if that’s the case then rest assured he found a good home and consider adopting one of the many other homeless dogs at the shelter. Kimm DiCato... an extraordinary make-up artist, and I have collaborated on a few shoots in the past. We both had a burning desire to shoot a vintage editorial together. We wanted to convey a story of a beautiful starlet’s rise to fame. She is gorgeous and successful in the eyes of society, but at the end of the day she is alone. The busy schedules of make-up, hair, and promotion of the brand that is herself, she comes home to complete solitude; where beauty can’t satisfy contentment or love. After searching for the right model, hair stylist, location, clothing, and accessories, we were ready to create our vintage Hollywood starlet. About eighty percent of the photo-shoot took place in the beautiful master suite in a Victorian-style home in Vista, California. - Susie Fiebich, photographer

PAPER FASHION GLAMOUR DRESSES I am Rachelle Dalton celebrity pro makeup artist of 25 years. I am a fashion artist and admire the industry since I was a young child and also wanted to come up with something neat and unusual to the fashion industry. I came up with the magazine dresses because, for one, I’d never heard of it being done in the USA. So, I thought it would be a great creation and something different in the fashion industry. I worked on finding various fashion images out of fashion magazines. The Magazine cut-outs took two years to collect and they were magazines from the US to Europe. I kept the concept hidden for two years and watched different concepts through the two years of fashion. In the Industry, fashion dresses were made from garbage bags to newspaper, and plastic cellophane to latex condoms, and other crazy ideas. No one never made the dresses out of fashion magazine clippings then put them together. I took magazine pages and glued them together for the base then took the two years worth of fabulous collected clippings that I had admired and glued on the base. The first dress completed was a long one, then I decided, let’s do a short one so we would have a better fashion concept. After hearing so many stories from the photographers I worked with say they didn’t think this would work, Cameron Habashian (a dear friend and photographer of mine) said, “Let’s shoot it.”

After four months to make the dresses, plus two years of clippings from magazines and finding the right models... it was ready to shoot. Using a mannequin and working off that for four months, the dresses were complete. The images were amazing and getting the dresses on was a little crazy-fun, but we came out with great images. I truly enjoyed doing this project and I hope it is an inspiration to the fashion industry. The iconic Eighteenth Street Lounge (ESL) located in Du Pont circle in Washington, D.C. owned and operated by Farid (Ali) Nouri and Thievery Corporation’s, Eric Hilton as one of the co-founders and co-owners was my dream setting for this photo shoot and my long time stomping grounds. I had some recent designs that I wanted to shoot at this location. ESL has such an eclectic vibe and many rooms with different vintage décor with bold colors and rich history. The designs featured by myself Ginger Carlin a.k.a. Booshie Design are re-designed vintage garments each with their own rich history: The satin green peacock dress Juelles Chester is wearing is a repurposed gown from 1950’s that had long sleeves and a high neck line and the moment I saw this dress I envisioned peacock feathers to complement the hypnotic green and Juelles wearing this ensemble and for the final touch I swept her hair up and interlaced her hair with the peacock feathers, The lace dress was a 1930’s debutante coming out dress and very brittle, my vision after saving this gown was punk all the way with a pink Madonna twist, but after all was said and done and Taylor Katelin rocked it for this shoot it became the Barbie dress! The gold lame dress that Juelles Chester is wearing was actually a long skirt from the 1980’s but my inspiration was 70’s disco and a few alterations later it was just that. The velvet rainbow dress (as I call it) that Juelles Chester is also wearing, rocking the microphone so viciously began as a 1970’s full length gown with long puffy sleeves. The beauty of this dress was unique but it was quite heavy to wear, my inspiration for this dress was to make look as sexy as it felt to touch and pairing this with thigh high suede stiletto boots was a no-brainer paired with big hair and rockstar blue lipstick. Taylor Katelin is also wearing one of my favorites, a pink paisley micro-mini dress paired with a white suede belt and knee hi white leather boots. This daring number was once a 1960’s shift dress and was about mid calf length with a zipper up the front to a high band collar. I adored the pink paisleys and reversed the dress and took out the zipper making the back a plunging open back with front boat-neck shorted the sleeve to ¾ and the hemline was brought to micro mini status. http://fashion-faces.com | SEP 2013 83

84

SEP 2013

Cameron Coppini is a friend and designer, but on this shoot she rocked model status like a pro. Cameron is featured in the black and pink strapless mini and this little number is a original design with fabric from the 80’s and my inspiration for this besides the 80’s was the pink crocodile leather stilettos by steve madden and yes the shoes inspired the dress! Cameron is also seen wearing a red wig with black and white print dress, this top was more or less a 1980’s belted office shirt paired with tutu and red lace thigh highs, white heels and punk jewelry to make this rockstar look complete. My vision and inspiration could not have been complete without photographer Tony Veloz, who has a keen eye and dynamic vision and can make any image speak and last but not least, rachel Dalton, make-up artist who flawlessly executes her art and can make any vision a reality. - Ginger Carlin, Designer/Stylist/Hair

When I say Ireland, what comes to mind? Leprechauns, social alcoholism, or maybe a strict national diet of potatoes in everything you eat? You might be surprised with how many similarities there are between the country of angry drunkards, and the cities of hungry models. The majority of my life, I have loved fashion and like every fashionista. I’ve always wanted to visit New York City. Little did I know, that in my own backyard was the wondrous world of Belfast Fashion!

I know images are now floating through your mind of a large ‘hobo-esque’ man, trying to fit into to a stained grey T-shirt; that seems to be a couple sizes too small, but Ireland’s fashion is far more superior to that. Don’t believe me? Just check out Leah McFall’s quirky vintage style, or David Henderson’s cutting edge and modern fashion designs, KAM Kouture’s Asian-inspired brilliance, and Nor Lisa’s striking elegant fashion.

Once your eyes are open to what’s around you, the more you’ll be able to find treasures in the most unlikely places. This summer I experienced the new world of local fashion, and also fulfilled my dream of visiting New York. To be honest, I was slightly disappointed Tiffany’s didn’t serve an all-day breakfast, but the feast for my eyes made up for it, just about. Everywhere I looked, there was something new, but all I kept thinking with every person I saw was, “You could get the exact same outfit for £30 back home.” I know... how frugal of me, but I’m more proud than embarrassed knowing that Ireland is comparable to an iconic fashion-forward area. - Constance Chadwick http://fashion-faces.com | SEP 2013 107

HALFWAY TO PARADISE! MADE IN HEAVEN! AVANT-GARDE BESPOKE JEWELRY DESIGN! ...by the brilliant creature of jewelry design, Maud Traun! style guru - chris garland http://puremindclothing.com jewelry designer - maud traun http://maudtraon.net

by Chris Garland for Maud Traun

In these troubled times of neo-brutalism marketing, branding, and mass uniformity, it is an almost impossible task to find something genuinely unique, original, and inspired. However, the London based French jewelry designer, Maud Traun, is just that. A gifted and inspired creator of some of the most unique, extravagant, glamorous, romantic, and beautiful jewelry on planet earth! Her work features a level of imagination, originality, bespoke craftsmanship, artistry, and detail, which is extremely rare today. Each item is a sort of collectable, and sought after and treasured by those fortunate enough to own one. Her jewelry is in no way a cheap purchase! However, if you view each piece as a work of art it can become a purchase that is well worth the money. Starting at ÂŁ500, they will undoubtedly increase in value, and become a good investment for those wishing to collect future heirlooms.

Visually, they are unlike any other jewelry that exists. To be seen wearing one of Maud Traun’s creations is to be instantly transported into a daring, sensual, exciting, and romantic world of glamour. People will look to you as a true fashionista! Maud Traun is a graduate of the prestigious Royal College Of Art in London, and has a M.A. in jewelry design. She is famous for her unique and highly original style.

FF - What inspired you to do a shoot named after the famous designer, Coco Chanel? The entire team started emailing with our ideas back and forth on which direction we would go with our shoot. I believe there was an inspiration photo that passed through our emails that was a elegant lady in slacks…and so Jessica Clark suggested we do a Coco Chanel Inspired shoot. We all were excited by that idea! That’s how it started. FF - What type of scenery were you looking for when shooting this layout? Where did you did you end up doing the shoot? To be honest, there wasn’t much discussion on location. Luckily, we were doing makeup and hair and Elizabeths (hmua) home studio and she lives in a lovely area, near our city’s river valley. It worked out perfectly! FF - How did the model, Brookely Tookey, possess all the qualities you were looking for when trying to capture the story of Coco Chanel? Our team began with Elizabeth, myself and Brookelynn….our shoot was always going to revolve around Brookelynn. Her lean body, long legs beautiful classic features and she’s also a woman who knows herself...all those qualities worked extremely well with our Coco Chanel theme.

http://fashion-faces.com | SEP 2013 119

FF - From looking at your website, you do all types of photography (glamour, wedding fashion week, etc.) what is your favorite type to do? What excites me is fashion and any element of it – from full creative shoots to jeans and tshirt portrait session. If I have to give myself a title it would be a “fashion, glamour, portrait couture photographer”…OH! Edmonton’s Western Canada Fashion week is so much fun – it’s a week that feels like a reunion. You get to be in one building with everyone you’ve worked with all year around.

FF - The clothes, hair, and make-up for this shoot are fantastic, how did Elizabeth Bernardin and Jessica Clark obtain the look you were trying to achieve? Jessica Clark (stylist) and Kelsey McIntyre (designer) know their fashion history facts! With every change of hairstyle/makeup and clothing, they would tell stories on how Coco wore certain pieces, or how Coco would stand for photos etc. They really got into the era and tried to stay as close to authentic as they could with every piece. I was fascinated by their stories and had to devour all things ‘Coco Chanel’ after our shoot. Kelsey spends every day making vintage pieces. Everything is made with love, vintageinspired fabrics and detail. I just love her work! Elizabeth is so brilliant and talented in the way she matched the hairstyles & makeup to the clothing pieces- for each look. I’m in complete awe of the entire team.

FF - A lot of your glamour shots are so light, feminine and surrounded by nature, how would you describe your style of photography, or what do you look for when deciding on a shoot location? Thank you – that’s exactly what I want people to come away with when they look at my portfolio. I love natural light! I can and do use studio lights (we have long winters here) ..but its painful to me.ha. If I can be outside, that’s where I’ll be. I’ve even taken models out in -20 C weather, if they’re willing and they usually are. Deciding on a location is usually the last element to my thought process. I shoot very shallow (DOF) – I love being outside but it doesn’t matter where. I’ve shot in my backyard and it looks like I was somewhere really fantastic. lol FF - What’s a goal that you want to accomplish within your career, before the year is up? I would love to shoot an editorial for a local fashion magazine - in some way I feel if I’m published at home – it will give me street cred (ha) …but this might be a 2014 goal. Otherwise my professional goal is only surround myself with positive and focused creative people within my industry and try to keep pushing myself and learning so I improve with each image.

The London photographer, KwangBok Jack Lee talked to Fashion-Faces about his underwater shoot. These photos were shot in three portions, with each portion depicting the water in a new way. The third portion entitled “Last Moment With, is the one we focused on during this issue. KwangBok told us the last scene of the movie, Titanic, inspired the motivation for this portion of the shoot. the images of Leonardo Dicaprio and Kate Winslet floating on the sea, dying, sharing their last moments with the one they love... sends viewers into an emotional kaleidoscope of increased longing, sorrow, and love.
