ModĂŠle Ruse Hair.Fashion.Music.Art

A benefit show for Young Arts Arizona

SEPT 2012 | www.fashion-faces.com

Modéle Ruse was developed as a glamorous event to increase visibility and provide a platform for artists, designers, stylists and models to showcase their talents and open opportunities they might otherwise be limited to. Brought together to one stage in order to benefit youth supported by Young Arts Arizona, Ltd. a program that focuses upon and supports kids at socioeconomic risk, and those physically or emotionally in need, and empower them to express themselves artistically. This event, conspired by Fashion-Faces own media coordinator, Jesca Alfano and Gemini of Chicago Salon owner, Lisa Kiorkis collaborated with Phoenix designers Amir Arsalan Saebi with Amir’s LaVoûte, Misty Guerriero, the owner of Vintage by Misty, couture lingerie designer, Kelly Calabrese, and the ladies of Nostra Style House boutique, Liliana Gomez, Angelica Gonzalez, and Nikki Samaradellis to produce the event exposing abilities from industries pertaining to hair, fashion, music, and art. Gathering together in the heart of downtown phoenix at Monarch Theatre, the people of the city definitely saw quite a show. Taking on an androgynous theme, this special event served neutral characteristics while classically introducing a colorful mood to kick off this fall’s fashion trends.

Paint My World Colorful An Artistic Fashion Exhibition by Fashion Creative, Bethany Norman.

Paint My World Colourful focuses on celebrating the future opportunities of diverse models in the fashion industry. Celebration is communicated through colour, texture and the use of diverse models within the mediums of fashion styling, photography, and hair and makeup design.

The formal exhibition was featured at Illamasqua Makeup Store, Beak Street London on the 22nd April 2012, live models strutted the shop floor in elaborate styling, and hair and makeup designed by Bethany Norman, and produced by a makeup brand so dedicated to self-expression, the uniquely innovative, Illamasqua. The exhibition gave audiences a unique chance to witness fresh faced makeup and models in comparison to airbrushed photo shoots; a subject affecting much of society today.

Paint My World Colourful includes a range of editorial photo shoots bursting with diversity with an artistic fashion twist! A variety of alternative models and concepts have been combined expressing and celebrating real life and real people, involving models of UK sizes 6-16, tall, petite, bald, tattooed, and with difference backgrounds and ethnicities.

TAKE ME HOME

MAX

Happy-go-lucky and accepting of everyone; Max greets everyone (dogs, cats and children of all ages) with the universal gesture of friendship- a rapid tail wag. The Bichon Frise mix is an undemanding companion in almost every way except for coat care (which will need to be groomed monthly). He’s active and playful, posing in a play bow when someone squeaks a stuffed toy and dashing through the grass to chase after a soaring tennis ball. However, after a long stroll around the neighborhood he is happy to unwind and relax with his owner on the couch each evening. Max is just one of over 110 dogs who are currently waiting to be adopted at the Arizona Humane Society. All dogs have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated prior to adoption.

For more information about Max call 602-997-7585 x 2045 and ask for animal ID number A411641 or visit the Sunnyslope Adoption Center located at 9226 N 13th Ave. in Phoenix

Clarissa Explains it All

Vogue Gives Society’s Standard of Beauty a Makeover By Clarissa Burt with Brooke Smith

Vogue’s new anti-eating disorder initiative banning models under 16 or who, according to the editor, are suffering from an eating disorder has everyone buzzing, particularly those of us who are immersed in the modeling industry. Vogue is one of the foremost magazines in the world, and with all 19 of their international editors on board this declaration has the ability to completely revolutionize the modeling world. The chairman of Conde Nast International, Jonathan Newhouse, stated, “Vogue editors around the world want the magazines to reflect their commitment to the health of the models who appear on the pages and the well-being of their readers.” Vogue has proven their commitment to this issue by calling upon the famous faces of Adele and the U.S. Olympians to grace the covers of their more recent issues. These healthy and full-figured icons represent a huge change for the focus of the entire magazine. After spending several years at the forefront of the fashion industry, I have come to understand how atrocious and widespread the consequences of these illnesses are. It is because of my personal experience that I wholeheartedly support Vogue’s stance against eating disorders. Their stance can compel the entire fashion industry to amend the way models are hired, treated, and perceived. Before this initiative, the industry would find it impossible to accommodate the curves of Adele, or the muscular disposition of the athletes. This is because before Vogue required their models to uphold a standard of health, designers only made model’s clothing in one exceedingly slim size. These designers would not have changed their ways unless a superpower, such as Vogue, demanded it. Now, Vogue has provided itself the opportunity to support every figure and, consequently, amend society’s prospect of beauty.

Beauty is always in the eye of the beholder. Physical attributes, just like fashion trends, are accepted or rejected based upon an ever-changing public opinion. Vogue’s initiative is just one powerful statement letting the world know that the time for sickly skinny figures has passed and the time for healthy, inspirational people has come. My advice to women on this new trend is that if you want to become genuinely beautiful, your focus needs to be geared toward inner beauty. This beauty, stemming from within, is the only aspect of any individual that will stand the test of time. By abolishing the need for models to develop harmful habits in order to make the cover of Vogue, the magazine is supporting the health of women everywhere and showing that beauty comes in many packages. Although some challengers of the initiative assert that there is no valid technique nor physician present to indicate whether a young woman has an eating disorder or not, I believe that Vogue editors are taking a stride in the proper direction. Vogue has backed their statement with the powerful images of more mature, healthy figures, proving that true beauty is here to stay. It is high time that the fashion industry puts an end to the problems caused by the world’s detrimental and imprecise standard of beauty. This initiative has the power to pull society’s attention toward the beauty behind every size, shape and personality.

ENVY From a young age, Khanh’s interests and skills prepared him to become a global fashion designer. His passion for fashion, paired with a finesse for drawing and sketching, led him to aspirations of becoming a designer that could inspire future generations. In 2007, Khanh graduated with a bachelor of fine arts from the Herberger Institute for Design & the Arts at Arizona State University. With his education, Khanh is equipped to make an impact on the fashion world through the visual arts. Khanh Nguyen is inspired by designers such as Christian Dior, Alexander McQueen and Vera Wang. As a fashion designer, Khanh has developed an audacious aesthetic of femininity, juxtaposing tradition and innovation. Bold lines, bold colors and bold geometric shapes make ENVY BY KHANH immediately recognizable. His spring and fall collections reveal Khanh’s unique style. Simplicity and elegance define the brand. The designer has always been attracted to asymmetry, which shines in all his pieces. Khanh’s goal is to set new global trends in pop culture and high fashion, to be a part of the increasingly rapid change in clothing styles. Ultimately, Khanh strives to create lust in the opposite sex and envy in the same sex, by creating irresistible pieces for women. “Make them feel it” is the tag line for Khanh’s brand. The meaning comes from making other women feel envious of you when you’re wearing an ENVY BY KHANH dress.

MODEL PORTFOLIO The basic idea of a models portfolio it so show any potential client that this model will fit into any mold. Whether the client is looking for someone for an ad campaign, catalogue, runway, whatever. The goal is to show She or He fits the bill. Nicki Derrick Nicki Derrick ~ The label is a Queensland based Fashion Label and was created based on the adage that women wear 20% of their wardrobe 80% of the time. With Fashion always been a passion of Nicki’s, creating her own label was always on the agenda from a young age. The Nicki Derrick Label is based on the foundations of timeless style, fit, comfort and versatility.
