So I read the news about the suicide of L’Wren Scott, the famous American fashion designer, who happens to be the long-term girlfriend of Rolling Stones legend Mick Jagger. The article said she had hung herself in her Manhatten apartment without leaving any letter. Until now I actually have never heard of any L’Wren Scott - maybe because I seldom read the gossip news, but still this story catched my interest, because there where unanswered questions here. Did Mick Jagger made her kill herself ? Maybe she loved him, but he had just left her? What if it was 10 - Fashion & Fitness Magazine
murder disquised as a suicide? I mean how could a famous, succesful and beautiful woman do a thing like that! So I read a little bit more, and here is what I found: L’Wren was adopted and grew up in a mormon family in Utah, but she left to pursue a modelling career in Paris as a young girl. She became famous in fashion later on when she returned to California, where she worked as a stylist amongst other related work. She got involved with celebrities and later met Mick Jagger, with whom she has been together with for many years. She started designing and eventually reached top level with shows in London and Paris Fashion Weeks. So what happened? Well, the first stories a read was about Mick’s four daugthers and that they never really
let L’Wren into the family, and speculations about that could be the reason they never married. But at her funeral they were reading poems for her, and I don’t think it is more than normal family issues. Mick Jagger has also said he would settle down with L’Wren, so they seemed pretty much right for each other. The main issue seems to be the fashion company. Even though famous people have worn her dresses like Michelle Obama, Sarah Jessica Parker, Nicole Kidman etc. doesn’t mean instant succes and profitability. Fashion business is tough business, and being a bit introvert like L’Wren wanting to supervise everything herself could have been blocking the way for expansion. Which is very common. Designing fashion clothes are
for many a very personal thing. The company had financial issues, and have had it before. Mick had helped out, but he had also bought L’Wren a 5 mio. dollar apartment in New York in which she took a loan a few years ago to save the company. He didn’t know about and got angry when he found out. Now the company has more than 3 mio. dollar debt, and when L’Wren had to cancel the seasonal fashion show in London in February, I think that is what made it for her. She could not show all the fantastic styles she had designed, and not get the usual publicity and recognition from the fashion peers and press. Her company was her blood and soul. Her identity. And Mick was on a tour in Australia. She was alone. All alone. Fashion & Fitness Magazine - 11

Famous Russian designer Igor Gulyaev presented in Moscow his new collection “On the edge” which was very stylish, feminine, rich fabrics, textures and details. Defile took place during MercedesBenz Fashion Week Russia. For the demonstration of his new collection Igor Gulyaev has used a double catwalk that was held in two halls at the same time. 60 looks were presented to the public and each of them responded the designer’s style. Dresses, coats, items of fur, blouses and skirts, making the collection’s foundation, they create the image on the edge of classics and avant-garde. In the new collection Fall/ Winter 2014-2015 Igor Gulyaev
proclaimed his motto as attitude to women as jewellery. The look, drawn by the designer, presented the laconic prerevolutional Russian style and essential sophistication of the European modern time. That is why we see volumetric bows on dresses accentuating our attention on slender waist, and low neckline baring shoulders. There were the gowns on the catwalk made of silk and brocade, and also fur outerwear which would be the best compliment to the evening look. Glittering necklaces and bags made of thin metal perfectly completed the collection theme. As the designer himself says, his work is first of all based on emotions.”In everything I do I try to put not only my soul but also Fashion & Fitness Magazine - 21
continued > my thoughts. I was thinking about human relationships creating the collection “On the edge”. Their infinite development is only possible with constant updating. After all, truly durable are only those relations in which people are able to eventually discover each other’s new dimensions. Our nature is that we crave novelty. And time chooses a new stream of what becomes eternal, something that goes beyond the ordinary, something that eventually is recognized as a real art” - describes 22 - Fashion & Fitness Magazine
his collection Gulyaev. The designer demonstrated his talent not only in the choice of exceptionally luxurious fabrics for fur coats, jackets, boleros and capes, but also playing with the color. So, long coats from broadtail combines three shades of purple. Gulyaev works not only with the palette but also with the texture. He knows what is best harmonized with mink or fox, and how more spectacular present chinchilla or sable. The designer combined various styles of furs with heavy skirts to the floor, blouses and lace dresses. “I loved this combination, since it gives the female silhouette incredible beauty and femininity,” - noted actress Miss Russia Yulia Alipova. The collection is full of juicy colors - emerald, indigo, purple, vinous, turquoise, aquamarine. Such rich gamma causes direct association with precious stones, iridescent different facets. As the designer pointed himself out, his heroine is “unquestionably ready to conquer the world and is able to win more than one man’s heart”.

One of the most awaited fashion shows was Hugo Boss Womenswear fall/ winter 2014 collection where Jason Wu made a debut as a creative director of the brand. Jason points out that, from his point of view, Boss Womanswear are just about the heritage of prosperity. He says there's also always sex appeal, but there is also a sense of confidence and definitely femininity. The collection fall/

Amongst the guests were Reese Witherspoon, Gerard Butler as well as Gwyneth Paltrow, Diane Kruger and Benedict Cumberbatch. Last February, Fendi's creative director Karl Lagerfeld launched his AW 2014/2015 collection during Milan fashion week. The collection presents an unexpected and marvellous fur mash. It contains comfortable garments for cold winter temperatures, striking with sensual and feminine outfits at the same time. The runway was opened by a british model Cara Delevigne, wearing black wool zipper coat with fur hoodie. The total look was amplified with monochrome
white handbag, leather gloves and boots. The model was carrying in her left hand a furry little copy of Karl Lagerfeld- like toy with black sunglasses. AW 2014/2015 Lagerfeld for Fendi is a mixture of furs, rich fabrics and slender silhouettes. Expectantly, not all the garments and not top till toes were made of real fur, however almost all of them featured cute, fluffy elements like furry hoodies, collars or small fur blocks randomly placed onto dresses. The collection also comprises classical long and short fur coats in Fashion & Fitness Magazine - 29

The color palette in general is fairly moderate and neutral starting with black, grey, brown and white, moving to dark green with coral, red or pink elements. Oversized coats and jackets are made of tweed and fur, when dresses were often multilayered and adorned with transparent fabrics or twin pockets 30 - Fashion & Fitness Magazine
at the front. The most extravagant look was a geometrical abstraction, implementing an array of colors and variety of fabrics which were pieced together like a puzzle or a camouflage. Additional elements of garments' decoration helped to create a total winter look. They were glittery silver and golden dots, resembling the snowflakes in the dark winter sky as well as printed star galaxies on long flare dress which closed the show. Fresh white orchids fastened as brooches were equally remarkable in Fendi A/W collection, which embellished versatile outfits. Matching white gloves and boots in different lengths without a doubt secured elegant and confident total look, accomplished with white, red and black mid size handbags. AW 2014/2015 Lagerfeld for Fendi collection deserves to be one of the most extravagant and noticed with its unique, complicated and contradictory styles, equally comfortable and chic - a prefect solution for the next winter wardrobe of true fashionistas.

Iwona Szanser Growing up, I was always active and involved in sports. At the age of 4 I stood on my own skis for the first time and skied down the little hill holding my dad’s hand... Since then I never stopped moving. My dad thought me a lot when I was a little girl, he was my best ‘sporty pal’, he through me in a lake for the first time hoping that my natural instincts will help me to learn how to swim, I must say that I am a NATURAL, I swam up to the surface like a fish, without hesitation or tear in my eye...we laugh about it now. When I started school I joined girls basketball team and within 2 years I was a captain leading my secondary school to county championships.

But unfortunately my story wasn’t full of happy tears... When I was 14 I torn a ligament in my knee while skiing with my dad on spring holidays in Switzerland, this was going to be the dream trip, we were saving up for a long time to travel to Swiss Alps. Three days in I fell and torn ACL in my right knee. The rest of my holidays I cried from physical and mental pain. I couldn’t imagine my life without sport... It didn’t take a long time before I went back into my everyday routine, but always struggled with weight baring exercises, recovery was long and painful. My love and passion for sport kept me going through good and bad times.... When I was 16 my parents sepa-

rated. It was a traumatic time for me and to compensate I through myself into fitness once again... This time for a wrong reason, I lost tremendous amount of weight and ended up in hospital with eating disorder. Thanks to my loving family I managed to overcome my illness and came back even stronger. I moved to the UK in 2004, thrown into a deep end, I started working in a bagel bakery and to earn money I had to forget about all my passion and focus on making a living in a different country. It wasn’t easy to begin with, but after 2 years I found myself again and enrolled to PT course in London. This is where my fitness story really began... I met a lot of beautiful and inspiring people along the way, one of them introduced me to fitness competitions. I will love her forever for making me compete with her back in April 2013. This was my re-birth, I call it.... After going through my divorce and trying to build my never existing confidence I decided to jump into a deep water one more time, this time without my dad looking over me... After 4 long months of competition preparation I placed first and won a trophy in Miami pro World’s championships, I was totally over-
whelmed and proud of myself. It thought me a lot about myself and I think this is the best school of self-control, strong-will, dedication and hard work to compete in fitness... My biggest dream was to step on stage of WBFF and when I heard that the show is coming to London I didn’t wait a second and enrolled straight away. I planned for 4 months of solid competition prep. It mainly involved high intensity cardio and German volume training. I had to add few slow intensity walks into my routine as I found it much harder this time to loose fat. It’s incredible how much you can learn about your body while preparing for such a show. It not only makes you a better trainer/nutritionist but it definitely made me a better person. Helped me to believe in my own abilities and gave me more self confidence. Even though my knees still shake every time I have to step on to the stage, my success drives me to do more and more.... My next goal is to walk out in great shape in Las Vegas on WBFF world’s championships in August 2014. I’m planning to take a different approach to this show, change my training and increase my carbohydrate intake to gain more size on my upper body to improve my body symmetry.
Vlatka Dragic Hi Vlatka, tell us a bit about yourself and your fitness career:
I grew up in Zagreb, Croatia and moved to Melbourne, Australia 10 years ago. What a life changing journey this has been! I had to adapt to so many changes and learn so many new things. This gave me no choice but to stand my ground, familiarize myself with the new world and step ahead. Having to deal with so many life changes at 16, gave me the strong attitude now to always go that extra mile and not be afraid of changes. I 40 - Fashion & Fitness Magazine
couldn’t speak one world of English either and had to do everything I can to catch up with everyone else! Lucky for me, I love challenges and love taking things to the new level. I love discovering things and aiming for what others see as ‘impossible’. I have been active my whole life – my mum always took me hiking over the Croatian mountains, skiing in Italy and swimming in beautiful Croatian Adriatic sea! I always take the most out of life and enjoy nature! I grew up with interest in gymnastics and spent 9 years (since I was only 4 years old)
doing classes 5 days a week. I was doing gymnastics professionally and was on TV presenting and dancing on weekly basis! I started learning about stage presence and requirements from an early age. When I moved to Australia, I fell in love with health and fitness!! I was so interested in changing my body beyond what others think they are able to achieve and so many people inspired me to just go for it. If anything, I am always willing to try and see no boundaries. I am a very friendly, positive, approachable person and always love to get inspired and inspire others. 3 years ago I started doing Bikini competitions at the Bodybuilding shows in Australia. Everything seemed so exciting and everyone looked so incredible. I have always placed 1st or 2nd so I was very happy with the results but I was looking for something more! Then I discovered THE WBFF. I can see that you participated in the Worlds in Las Vegas 2013. How did you feel about participating in the biggest fitness & bikini modeling show in the world? What was your ranking in the competition? The WBFF World Championships in las Vegas was incredible. The whole show, the production, the people behind it and competitors were just incredible. It definitely opened
my eyes and I was finally happy to be where I was. It felt amazing being on such a world class stage with top fitness models world wide. It blew me away especially after competing locally for so many years then I come across something out of this world. There is nothing like it and from now on I will be only competing with The WBFF every year! The categories are exciting, the show is spectacular, the theme wear was unbelievable but most of all the spirit and vibe of the show is so energetic and great! The WBFF won over my heart! At THE WBFF World Championships I placed really high in two categories – 4th in Bikini Model out of 150 girls and 6th in Fitness out of 80 girls. It was the most spectacular show and such an amazing experience! We all start somewhere and once we accomplish our goals and get recognized, it feels amazing! I won Bikini Championships in Queensland, Australia past few years but competing in USA at a World’s show was my dream. I made that happen this year and it was just incredible! I absolutely love being on stage and all that hard dieting, training and preparation definitely pay of and I am so confident on the day as I know I gave it my 110% and I am there to celebrate my accomplishments and have fun! I am so focused, determined and strong the entire year and for competition preparation and Fashion & Fitness Magazine - 41
continued from previous page > ... want to prove to myself that I can be one of those fitness models I used to look at in the magazines! How did your prep look like for Worlds? I always eat clean and train all year round, it is the lifestyle I live and teach to my clients. After knowing how good your body can look when you eat certain foods and train, you never really want to stop. Fitness helped me be so much more positive about life, I love being fit and healthy all year round but competing is my passion and I put even more effort in for my competition prep. 42 - Fashion & Fitness Magazine
For Worlds, I ate 5-6 small meals every day, trained weights 5 days a week and cardio 5 days a week. I do all of my measurements and track my progress on weekly basis every Friday. Every Saturday I have a relaxed meal where I eat anything I want but it is strictly 1 meal only. Each week I keep pushing myself more and always keep challenging my body to improve. When you feed your body the right nutrients each day and keep it consistent, it is amazing how the body responds to what you put into it. It is my choice how I care for my body – nobody else’s. Sticking with the right diet plan and consistent food intake every 3 hours will only bring me closer to my goals! I always want
to see results – off season and on season and I am always prepared to do and eat whatever it takes to make an impression. I love helping others and encouraging them to do the same – be the best they can be! What are your future plans? My future plans are to compete next at The WBFF in Sydney, Australia and The WBFF Worlds in Las Vegas in 2014. I am preparing a lot of girls for these shows too and looking forward to a big year with lots of exciting plans. I will be launching my own website soon where girls and guys world wide can get some inspiration and get personalized diet, supplement and train-
ing plans! I am a full time personal trainer in Australia and have been doing so well this year, but I want to expand my own business even more next year and try to inspire as many people possible!
