The San Francisco Project Eco-City Guide to the Green Capital By Greta Eagan
A song from 1967 cheerfully instructs, “If you’re going to San Francisco, be sure to wear some flowers in your hair...” The chorus indicated a mode of life that San Franciscans fully promoted and embraced- peace, love and harmony. Fast forward to today and the sentiment remains, only this time they can add ecofashion to their roster! We didn’t quite put flowers in our style influencer, Jeninne Jacob’s hair- but the overall celebration of a green city with wonderfully creative and ecofriendly ambitions was felt. Be sure to look at the San Francisco Project (on fashionmegreen.com) to see all the eco-

Vegan Mexican food sounds like an oxymoron, and oh so wonderful at the same time! Founded on the principles of producing good and local food, the restaurant boasts Mexican home cooking with an organic flair! Homemade tortillas solidify its authentic standing, while a changing menu with locally harvested and seasonal produce keep it interesting. And don’t stop with the food eitherhomemade lemonade, naturally sweetened, is a must!

Located in the heart of the Mission, Gracias Madres is a bit of a diamond in the rough. The interior is current and minimal with traditional wooden and tile accents. Indoor and outdoor seating as well as long family style tables make for a great party venue. I popped in to meet a fellow ecofashionista and San Francisco local during my trip. We sat at the bar and were taken care of so well by the barista, it was as though we were family! No matter the occasion or meal, Gracias Madres is the perfect choice for something new and different in all the right ways!
“Gracias Madres is truly an expression of who we areit represents our deep love of and reverence for food, our commitment to health and sustainability, our unconditional love for our multicultural family and community, our devotion to the Earth and the divine feminine, and our commitment to raising consciousness on the planet.” - Terces Engelhart, owner
