EDITOR’S LETTER

from the DIRECTOR As you flick through this issue, you'll notice it's a little different. Opulent, luxe and slightly over the top - well, it's our birthday issue, so why not!

It was an honour to shoot and style the UK's biggest reality star, Charlotte Crosby for our cover. We had her for the entire day and her high energy levels kept us entertained and on our toes. The amazing creative team including Photographer Daniele Sangermani and Hair and Make Up Artist Chelsea Brown made magic happen. The backdrop was set against the breathtaking superyacht Patriot 1 and Charlotte knew how to turn it on for the camera.

I also love how raw, unscripted and honest she is in her interview. Her authenticity shines through with each word and her shoot with us is one of my favourite spreads to date.

With winter finally on our door step, you'll discover the BIGGEST trends, lots of must haves to add to your wish list and some spicy advice to heat things up under the covers.

We've also interviewed designer, Camilla Franks (see page 12) and spoken to a handful of our favourite business babes who share their success story on page 38.

This is more than just a style guide for the coldest months of the year, this is a celebration.

There's so much more I want to say, but before I sign off I'd like to thank each and everyone of you for joining me on this journey. To reach issue 50 is an unbelievable milestone. When I started the magazine, I never thought about the destination.

Honestly, I just wanted to share the season's prettiest things with our following. It's because of you that we've had the courage to keep putting out new editions. So once again, thank you.

from the EDITOR I began my voyage at Fashion Weekly as an intern in the midst of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival (MBFF15). From writing my very first article on the MBFF15 Myer Show to now being Fashion Weekly's Online Editor, it's been an incredible whirlwind of mesmerising fashion, fabulous moments, lots of love, hard work and determination. I couldn't be prouder of the magazine reaching this magnificent milestone, and thankful to be a part of this incredible journey with Stacey and the team.

Our 50th Issue is all about celebrating the magazine and YOU, our loyal readers. We've gone bigger and better than ever before, and we can't be more excited and grateful to have the opportunity to share it all with you.

Here, Camilla Franks talks about the mood behind her AW17 collection, body positivity and her thoughts on CAMILLA copycats.

WHAT IS THE MOOD BEHIND THE WINTER COLLECTION? CF: The AW17 collection was inspired by the traditional artisans of China and Tibet. We travelled far beyond the city lights, off-the-beaten track to nearly 20 destinations, including Lhasa, Khali and Hani. We spent time with these communities and learned about their respective arts.

We didn't speak the same language but we shared a common understanding through textiles, food, sometimes rice wine, and we learned how they kept their art alive through being courageous.

While traveling on the road in China can be challenging at times, I truly believe this is one of our strongest collections to date and I'm so proud and excited to share this very special collection with the world.

A CAMILLA KAFTAN IS THE EPITOME OF EFFORTLESS GLAMOUR. BUT KAFTANS ARE OFTEN ASSOCIATED AS A SUMMER PIECE. CAN YOU WEAR A KAFTAN DURING WINTER? IF SO, WHY AND HOW? CF: Absolutely. Layering is the key. In the Chinese Whispers collection, you'll find kitschy embroidered bomber jackets with fun slogans across the shoulders, knitted jacquards and big chunky scarves with embellishments in rich opulent hues.

WE LOVE THE VERSATILITY A KAFTAN CAN BRING TO OUR WARDROBES. HOW CAN WE STYLE OUR CAMILLA KAFTANS SO THEY ARE SHAPELY? CF: When I design a garment, I imagine something both beautiful and versatile. I want my designs to adapt to their wearer and to always look and feel amazing. CAMILLA kaftans can be styled in up to 12 different ways enabling every woman to embrace their uniqueness.

YOUR CAMILLA DESIGNS ARE WORKS OF ART. WOULD YOU CONSIDER YOURSELF AN ARTIST? CF: I consider myself a storyteller. Each CAMILLA piece is infused with a story: the destination and adventure are yours to fill with vibrant colour, bohemian detailing and intricate craftsmanship. All pieces are luxurious, individualistic and timeless. Crafted by hand, made with heart.

YOU'VE BLESSED WOMEN WORLDWIDE WITH STYLES THAT CELEBRATE ALL FIGURES. YOU'VE OPENLY SAID THAT YOU DON'T FOLLOW TRENDS. WOULD YOU SAY CAMILLA IS A TREND OF ITS OWN? CF: We're growing up and expanding our range, so each collection my design team and I branch out of the CAMILLA offering inspired by silhouettes we find on our travels. I try to steer clear of the mainstream trends as it's important that my collections stay true to my inspirations and creative direction.

DOES IT BOTHER YOU THAT THERE ARE COPYCATS OUT THERE? CF: Of course. And it's a bit hurtful when I see them – but on the flip side it's also a compliment.

However, in saying that, my team and I are true originals!

In addition to the artisan quality of the CAMILLA offering, we put our name, soul and love into each and every one of the designs we produce – which is something the others don't have. And when these copies make their way into the market, we're always two or three ideas down the line and they are sitting well and truly behind the eight ball.

DID YOU EVER THINK THAT YOU WOULD BE STANDING HERE TODAY WITH THIS LEVEL OF SUCCESS? CF: I still pinch myself when I think back to my early days at the Bondi Beach House… it will always have a special place in my heart. Whenever I visit, it's a solid reminder of how important hard work, crazy ideas and the love of craft is. It will always be my baby! 14 years on, we're sitting pretty at 18 stores in Australia plus a booming online business and have plans to open up shop in New York and LA in the coming year.

WHAT'S ONE PIECE OF FASHION ADVICE YOU WOULD GIVE WOMEN ABOUT BODY POSITIVITY? CF: Everyone has the right to feel beautiful. At CAMILLA, our vision is to awaken the adventurous heart that resides within all of us (no matter who we are), because we believe that everyone has the right to experience freedom and joy. I hope a CAMILLA piece brings that to anyone who wears one.

Reality star,

Charlotte Crosby needs little introduction.

The UK socialite sky rocketed to fame in 2011 making her debut on mega-hit television show, Geordie Shore. After twelve massive seasons, Charlotte announced her shock departure in 2016 leaving fans devastated. Nevertheless, it appears the famous figure has the Midas touch. In 2013 she was the Celebrity Big Brother UK winner, has since featured on Ex On The Beach, launched her highly successful fitness DVD '3 Minute Belly Blitz' and her sequel '3 Minute Bum Blitz' couldn't come out fast enough. She's also introduced her own fashion range with online retailer 'In The Style' and released her biography, 'Me Me Me' with her second book, 'Brand New Me' hitting shelves later this year.

Her notable dazzle is always making headlines. When she announced her new romance in February with reality hunk Stephen Bear the internet went into meltdown. Most recently, all eyes have been on the loved-up couple as they hosted Just Tattoo Of Us on MTV which ended with an explosive first season finale.

With over 10 million followers on social media and growing, the star's success continues to soar to new heights. Whether it's what she's wearing, what she's doing or who's in her bed, everyone wants to know.

Charlotte has such a vibrant and unapologetic personality, so it seemed only natural to photograph her on one of the Gold Coast's most luxurious superyachts, Patriot 1. Its deep navy blue exterior and opulent interior worked as the perfect backdrop for our cover shoot.

Once she returned to the UK, we organised a phone call to discuss her past, present and future in this refreshingly honest and fearless interview.

Things have changed quite a lot in your life since leaving Geordie Shore and now you're the co-host of Just Tattoo Of Us. With a change of focus within your career, are you looking to redefine your image?

CC: No I wouldn't say that. Just the Tattoo of Us is just as crazy as Geordie Shore was with less alcohol, well no alcohol. So I wouldn't say I was changing my image, I'm just as crazy as normal. I definitely don't want to change my image whatsoever, it's just I'm not on Geordie Shore [any] longer.

You're such a public figure, and so many people know and follow you on social media every day. How do you keep aspects of your life private?

CC: I don't really keep anything private to be honest. I'm not really bothered about that.

Do you enjoy the fame and being in the spotlight?

CC: Yeah. It's not that I enjoy it, it's just what I'm used to. It's been like six years now so I don't really know much different.

If you could live under the radar for a day, what would you do?

CC: I always said if I could do anything and I wasn't famous, it would be to go and work abroad for the summer ... But just for one day, I mean there isn't much to do in one day that I could really do that wasn't a problem now.

This is your normal now, is this what you want to do long term?

CC: Definitely. Forever, [the] rest of my life.

You and Stephen Bear look so in love.

Do you think he is the one?

CC: Yes, definitely. I don't think you enter any relationship not thinking that it's going to be the one. So there would just be no point being in it.

Is marriage and kids something you want in the near future?

CC: No not in the near future, no, no, maybe in a couple of years. But not anytime soon.

How has your family played a part in your success and character building since being in the spotlight?

CC: I feel really bad for saying this but not much.

If I listened to anything my family said I wouldn't be on Geordie Shore. I tend not to take any of their advice.

Is this because you've always done it on your own? Have you always been independent with your decision makings?

CC: In making decisions, in what I want to do and how I behave, yes. My dad helps me a lot with my business, money and stuff. Like financially, he is kind of like my accountant. But in every other way, I've done it on my own.

You're a TV personality but would you ever like to go into acting?

CC: It's not something I think, I definitely 100% want to do ... If an opportunity arose, I definitely wouldn't say no because I'd try anything but it's not something I really want to do.

A lot of people don't agree with how you portray yourself, but many praise you for it. Do you consider yourself a role model?

CC: No, no, definitely not. I don't think any of us coming into [Geordie Shore] ever thought we'd be role models. We don't want to be role models. At the end of the day, we were just being ourselves on a reality show.

You've been doing collaborations with online boutique 'In The Style'. Is this something you want to continue doing or are you interested in one day having your own fashion or makeup line?

CC: It is something I enjoy doing as a sideline.

It's always fun and it's nice to do different things but my heart really lies with just film.

That's the main thing that I love and the one thing that's the most important.

For our winter cover shoot, you wore a few of the top winter trends. Is there anything in particular that stood out?

CC: The shoot was very different, it was an evening gown wear [shoot] so I'm not going to be walking around in them everyday but I did really like the Natalie Rolt dress.

How do you embrace your personal style?

What advice would you give to someone who's not sure that they can wear what they want to wear?

CC: Wear something you're really comfortable in. If you do feel like something is a little too outrageous, I tend to just not do it. The last thing you want is to walk around feeling really uncomfortable and selfconscious. I always dress for comfort.

What is one of the first things you do every morning and one the last things you do every night before bed?

CC: One of the last things I do every night is probably use a baby wipe on my skin.

One of the first things I do every morning is check my phone.

Your Snapchat stories are so much fun. You let everyone into your world.

Do you think it's important to do so to connect with your fans?

CC: I've always been a big fan of social media even before I was on Geordie Shore. I had Instagram and everything ... It's just something I really, really enjoy. I just love social media. It's not that it's important to the fans, I just really like it.

How do you deal with negative press and make sure it doesn't affect you and bring you down?

CC: It's a hard one. I tend to not bother that much.

I think I might have built thick skin ... The only thing that would ever affect me is if it came from my friends and family because then I know it's true and I know it's actually a problem.

So is not reading into the negative press and not knowing a way for you to distance yourself from it?

CC: I just don't care.

What's next for you?

CC: I never know. So many people ask me this question and I wish I could [give an] answer.

Can you tell me about your new book, 'Brand New Me' coming out? Why did you need to release a second one?

CC: A lot has happened in the last year and half.

Like, I've been on a big journey and everything's massively changed so I thought it needed to be updated.

I know we touched on you not wanting to be a role model specifically, but as a woman of influence, how would you encourage women to be all that they can be?

CC: I think [to] be more confident in yourself and just don't really care what anyone thinks about you.

I think that would be my most important thing.

Don't be bothered by what people you don't know think about you and just care about your friends and family.

CV: I think that every woman, no matter what shape or size, always has insecurities of some kind. I think knowledge is power; have a great fitting with a stylist to find out your assets and how to accentuate these areas.

With the right tools it is easier to embrace your outer physical body. I think being a happy and balanced person on the inside shines through to embracing your body on the outside.

CV: I believe style comes from the inside, from your own inner confidence and how you hold yourself… but in saying that I do love to dress up! I celebrate my own style with colours and a real focus on Australian brands.

I take Audrey Hepburn as a real style icon.

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU'VE LEARNT WITHIN YOUR CAREER?

WHY DO YOU LOVE BRISBANE'S FASHION LANDSCAPE?

CV: To just give it your best shot and not to delay – it will never be the right time, you will never be fully prepared, so just start. Also, nothing comes without endless hours of work, dedication and a great vision. Without a road map, it's impossible to know where to go.

CV: Brisbane is where I grew up, it is where I have some of my best memories. Coming from a sewing and manufacturing family I recall being in fashion parades for my mums sewing in the early 1980s! I love the familiarity of home, and how we Queenslanders don't take ourselves too seriously. We are colourful and we embrace it!

YIOTA KOUZOUKAS Co-Owner, Sabo Skirt HOW DO YOU CELEBRATE YOUR OWN PERSONAL STYLE?

WHY DO YOU LOVE BRISBANE'S FASHION LANDSCAPE?

YK: We have very similar style tastes when it comes to fashion, but two completely different body shapes. We enjoy expressing our own personal styles with our daily outfits and especially love dressing up for more formal events.

YK: We love its laid back, summery-style that seems to hang around for most of the year.

WHAT'S THE BIGGEST LESSON YOU'VE LEARNT WITHIN YOUR CAREER? YK: We've definitely learnt to enjoy and appreciate each milestone as they come. Our business journey has been so incredible, and we cannot wait to see what lies ahead.

WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN ABOUT EMBRACING YOUR BODY? YK: It's actually come from our Sabo Skirt experience and journey. We both admire certain body features that the other has, that we may not necessarily like about ourselves.

Taking these thoughts along with designing clothing that suits multiple different body shapes has given us selfappreciation of our own bodies and more acceptance for being healthy, fit and embracing what we were born with!

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia (MBFWA) '17 graced Sydney's idyllic shores throughout the third week of May. Bursting with grand and fabulous shows, incredible designs, on-trend street style and perhaps more questionable selections, MBFWA '17 once again proved to be a week to remember. Here, we are celebrating the highlights; the national designers putting Australia on the global fashion map and our unique palette for supreme style.

Officially launching MBFWA '17 was Dion Lee. Hosted at Sydney's Opera House, its architecture framing the runway and the harbour as its backdrop, it was a truly memorable show. With the fashion pack flocking in their stylish best, the front row was ablaze with pre-show excitement.

Minimalistic and very Dion Lee, the opening show set the mood, tones and aesthetics which would dominate the week. Think a mostly monochromatic palette with pops of blues, reds, yellows and golds with textural play the key focus. The collection also saw the debut of Dion Lee's very first menswear collection, effortlessly complementing the silhouettes he's become renowned for.

Why charcoal masks have become the Internet's biggest beauty obsession that is aggressively damaging the skin.

Remember those gross pimple popping videos the Internet was obsessed with? Well now, DIY charcoal masks are trending like the plague. We've watched the countless videos and everyone seems to be mesmerised by the pulling and tugging action. But this obsession appears to be more of a gimmick than a true beauty product. Many are unaware that the DIY solution is causing trauma to their complexions.

Though charcoal is the hot topic, it is not the actual issue.

As an ingredient, it can do wonders detoxifying the skin when used correctly. The problem is when charcoal is combined with a base that dries, clings to the skin and then needs to be peeled off.

Australian Skin Clinics Skin Therapist and formulator for Balense Skin Care, Wendy Reiner says it's a very brutal form of exfoliation.

“The skin isn't meant to be pulled that way … when you're peeling something like [a charcoal mask] off your face, you can be tearing small capillaries, small blood vessels, elastin fibres and collagen fibres. A lot of those things can take a long time to heal, if they heal at all.

That's where the danger is,” she said.

Supposedly, charcoal masks extract blackheads and impurities. Though it appears to be more like an aggressive face wax complemented by excruciating pain.

Wendy explains that while its novel nature has made it extremely fashionable, if it were to be used repeatedly there could be long-term damage.

“I wouldn't recommend it to anybody who is considering an anti-aging program if they want to retain the youthfulness and the resilience of their skin.”

She goes on to say, “A gentle approach should be taken to the skin because it's with you for your entire life. There are plenty of other products on the market that can do just as good of a job without the comprise.”

1 Towel dry and gently brush freshly washed hair before generously applying sea salt spray to create texture. Blowdry roughly using fingers, concentrating on the roots.

2 Create a side part above the centre of one eye and flip the hair over.

3 Maximise volume by adding a texturising powder to the roots and working in with fingers.

4 Use a wide barrel curling tong and working from the front to the back, curl hair in small sections working from the bottom up to the eye line.

5 Hold fingers in roots and shake hair downwards to release and mess up the curls. Pull on the ends slightly to stretch the curls out and create a soft wave.

6 Finish with a very fine mist of hairspray to ensure the curls stay put.
