This Common Curtain of the Face Balazs Fejes

This Common Curtain of the Face If we all wear the same masks, are we then all the same? How do we express our uniqueness? Maybe we are not single persons anymore, we are just faceless members of our tribes. Citizens, residents, employees, hopefully on the healthy side of the virus statistics. Wearing a mask makes us feel more anonymous, it’s easier to blend in, hide, or conversely to step up and fight for the ideals of the tribe. The immense shock of this global pandemic might mark the end of individualism. Suddenly we’re all connected, we’re all the same, wearing a mask, watching Netflix, hoping for The Cure. Perhaps it’s no coincidence that now we care more: for Black lives, for the rights of minorities,

for democracy, for equality. And now, stars with beautiful faces don’t get a pass for horrible behavior. As I walk the streets, I am still looking for the person, the individual, the character, the flair and the flourish. How do you convey what makes you? How do you display that you’re hot or smart or nerdy? I used to look for the wise old face time marked with hundreds of lines. I used to look for the symmetrical and confident face of beauty. Now I have to look further and harder.
