How will you use it? What will you do? Where will you go? Will you make it count for Jesus Christ, or will you use it for yourself? For the follower of Jesus Christ, the blank page represents an unlimited opportunity to impact the world for the sake of the Gospel. I love what Paul said in his letter to the church at Rome, “For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone. If we live, we live for the Lord; and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that He might be the Lord of both the dead and the living.” The goal of every born-again believer of the Lord Jesus Christ is that our lives are to be

2017 has the potential to be the greatest year we have ever had personally, as a family, and also as a church body. Remember, “if God is for us, who can be against us?” For the church, our single focus continues to be “making disciples” as we seek to live for Christ each day. The Great Commission is still applicable and relevant today. We must be diligent, intentional, and focused on helping others follow Christ. We are living in a season where self-absorption is the norm. However, Jesus was always about others. He said in Luke 19:10, “I’ve come to seek and save them that are lost!” Jesus understood the value of others. We are to be more concerned about others than

I want! That attitude is the opposite of Jesus. Paul reminded us to have the attitude Jesus had when He humbled himself and became one of us. He cared for us and we are to imitate Christ! Jesus invested the majority of His time in the lives of twelve men who would then do the same. This is disciple making. Who will you invest in next year? Making disciples is not a program, but a lifestyle of walking with others through life. When everything is said and done, the question will remain, “How many disciples did you make?” 2017 awaits, so let’s make it a year to remember for the Lord Jesus Christ!

DAILY BIBLE READING PLAN Disciples of Jesus take part in regular Bible reading and prayer. We are providing the following plan as a guide to help with

these disciplines. Our hope is that participants will be guided and taught by the Holy Spirit to see God more clearly, focusing our thoughts on Jesus each day in a way that changes us from the inside-out. These helps are provided for those that desire further guidance in the disciplines of Bible reading and prayer. Starting and continuing a plan to read the Bible can be intimidating, as well as difficult. We encourage you to plan the best time and location for you and resolve to pursue God each day. This reading plan is for each day of the week, lasting for a quarter of the year. For many, the yearlong plan can be daunting, so this is an attainable goal that has a “finish line in sight! FIRST ON MISSION First on Mission (FOM) is the Global Mission Offering of

than ever before!

In the past, we would have separate initiatives for our congregation to give to the different mission agencies. This led to a continual plea for giving nearly every month to a different group. At the establishment of FOM, the church decided it was best to determine which agencies we wanted to support, collect our money into one pool of special mission offering, and then distribute that money according to predetermined percentages. This allowed for one unified voice in giving to and supporting missions without neglecting any of the agencies or running the risk of one of the smaller agencies being overlooked through the course of the year. What has resulted since the inception of FOM is that each of the agencies receives more support from FBC than ever before under the old method. We encourage our church family to give to FOM any time throughout the year. Actually, we would encourage you to give incrementally over the course of the year. Many have

Designating your offering to FOM through your regular

making choices about where we will give and how much. One of the ways to give more to missions in the coming year is to sit down individually or with your family and determine a challenging goal for your household in giving to missions for the entire year. Then divide that amount by twelve months or even by the number of paychecks you anticipate and then give incrementally throughout the year. When a plan like this is in place, you are more likely to give the desired goal instead of waiting until the last month and trying to come up with a large amount. A little every month can grow over the course of the year! When you give to FOM, you support mission work from Kentucky to the ends of the world. Let's give more

Giving to Missions through Budget Giving to First Baptist Owensboro In addition to special mission offering giving through FBC, over 16% of your tithe (budget giving) goes to mission work here in Owensboro, across this nation, and to the ends of the earth. This includes 10% that goes to the Cooperative Program, which supports Southern Baptist missionaries and their work here in Kentucky, across North America, and to the nations.

Praying the Bible Conference January 21 & 22

Featuring Dr. Donald Whitney What is Praying the Bible Conference? When you pray, does it ever feel like you're just saying the same old things about the same old things? On Saturday, January 21 and Sunday, January 22, Dr. Donald S. Whitney will join us at First Baptist Owensboro to teach a method of prayer. Offering us the encouragement and the practical advice we're all looking for, Dr. Whitney will outline an easy-to-grasp method that has the power to transform our prayer life: praying the words of Scripture. Simple, yet profound, the information and experience of this conference will prove invaluable as you seek to commune with your heavenly Father in prayer each day.
