There are thousands of individuals and many organizations that volunteer each year in local parks and support the many programs and initiatives of the Fairfax County Park Authority. In fact, it would be difficult, if not impossible, to operate our park system without volunteers. Making sure that their service is recognized is very important.
Following in last year's footsteps, this year's ceremony is a little different than years past, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But, now more than ever, we want to take the time to ensure our volunteers know how essential they are. We received many wonderful nominations of exceptional volunteers for the Elly Doyle Park Service Awards, Harold L. Strickland Partnership and Collaboration Award, Mayo Stuntz Cultural Stewardship Award and Sally Ormsby Environmental Stewardship Award. We will celebrate all of these awardees as well as our 2021 Outstanding Volunteers, our Eakin Philanthropy awardees and our Chairman's Choice awardees.
