「丸」。船名の末尾に必ずつく一文字。これは船が港を出て、弧を描くように旅し、豊か な実りを携えて無事に戻ってくることを願った伝統に根差すという。 気仙沼はかつて、世界に向かって開く港であり、7 つの海を渡って世界のさまざまな文化 と交わり、自らの文化を絶え間なく刷新し続けていた。しかし、遠洋漁業の衰退以降、 残念ながらいまではその伝統は廃れてしまった。 この「丸」という言葉は、外部との関わりを通して地域が持続的に発展していくことを 示唆している。気仙沼が失ったよき伝統をもう一度蘇らせる気持ちをこめて、私たちは プロジェクトを Maru（丸）と名付けた。 Maru は、世界中の個性豊かな地域でその再生や活性化を担う人々を直接結びつけ、触発 を与え合う、グローバルな連帯である。地域間の相互作用を通じて、各地域の強みや持 ち味を新しい価値づくりに結びつけ、地域産業を活性化することを目指している。また、 このような活動が世界の地域で同時多発的に行われることで、Maru という活動を世界へ 広げ、影響力を高めることも目指す。 プロジェクトの第一歩として、海に囲まれ、山がちな国土という日本とよく似た自然条 件を持ちながら、まったく異なる文化を育み、地域ビジネスづくりにおいて多くの成功 を収めてきたイタリアをパートナーに選択した。実施にあたり、先進的なデザイン教育 で世界的に評価の高いミラノ工科大学デザイン学部の協力を得ることができ、本年 4 月 に開催された世界最大のデザイン見本市・ミラノサローネ開催に合わせて、私たちはイ タリアを訪問した。 旅の前半はミラノ。ミラノ工科大学の学生や HUB Milano と Maru の可能性についてディ スカッションやワークショップを行った。また、後半は南イタリアのバジリカータ州ト ラムートラで、気仙沼とトラムートラの間で具体的にどのような連携が可能かを探る フィールドワークを行った。 本報告書は、私たちのイタリアでの活動成果を報告するとともに、世界の地域と地域が 直接結びつき、触発を与え合うことで新たな価値を生み出す Maru のコンセプトが、一体、 どのように機能するかを示す「実験報告」でもある。

丸 Maru is a word for circle in Japanese. For every ship named, this character Maru is placed at the very end, such as Kyotoku-Maru or Toyama-Maru. This custom has a long history of tradition, where people wished for a safe and successful journey of a ship, which as it takes its course, would draw an invisible circle onto the sea.

Kesennuma was once a harbor opened to the world, which constantly renewed its culture through exchanges between different cultures located across the seven seas.

However, since the pelagic fishery deteriorated, so has such cultural exchanges and traditions.

The word Maru implies that each local, including Kesennuma, has a potential for sustainable development, through exchanges with its external counterparts. In hopes for reviving this lost tradition of being directly connected and stimulating each other s cultures, we decided that our project should also bear the name Maru.

Maru, in essence, is a global alliance, which connects people who are engaged in the revitalization of local communities. Through interexchanges between these regions, we revisit the strenghts and characteristics of each region, create new values, and revitalize the local industries. It is also our hope that as multiple areas of the world would simultaneously work on such effort, these projects would have a synergetic effect to promote the concept of Maru.

As the first step of a project, we have selected Italy as a counterpart. While Italy and Japan has many geographic resemablance, such as the surrounding sea and the moutainous land, Italy has been so much more successful in creating local businesses with respect to the unique characters offered by each local community. As we prepared ourselves, we were fortunate to have collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, an institution which is globally recongized for its advanced design education.

Our visit to Italy took place in April 2011, during the Milano Salone, the biggest design fair in the world.

Our tour took place first in Milan, where we had inspiring discussions and workshops concerning the possibility of Maru effort, together with students Politecnico and people at the HUB Milano. We then moved to the town called Tramutola of Basilicata in Southern Italy for fieldwork, to explore how we could collaborate in practice.

While this document describes our activities and outcomes of our visit to Italy, we hope this would also inspire the readers how the concept of Maru could create new values through exchanges of people and communities around the world.

Kesennuma s Industries: Fisheries & Tourism Once you know about Kesennuma, you know the city s industry centralizes in fishing. Kesennuma locates in Sanriku Bay, where its shore is known as the the World s Three Great Fishing areas; Kesennuma is also known for oyster and scallop farms; The city is also a key harbor for pelagic fish boats. Kesennuma harbor records one of the biggest catch in Japan, and a large portion of tuna, bonito, and pacific saury are from the city.

Because of the great amount of fish that goes through the harbor, Kesennuma attracts people from all over the world: Bonito fishermen who travel from the South, saury fishermen from the North, foreign crews of the pelagic fishboats, and traders who come to buy the fish products processed in the local factories.

Kesennuma, the Slow Food City Kesennuma, with its abundant nature of sea and mountains, has rich culture of food and lifestyles that is unique to the city. In hopes to transfer this irreplaceable values, the city has declared itself as Slow Food City in 2005.

ミラノ工科大学学部 1 年生向けワークショップ MARU 協会のコンセプトに、東京大学 i.school で行われているワーク ショップの方法を用いてローカルの文化・価値を再考、デザインした。 最初に、(1) 自らがデザインにおいて重視するポイント、(2) インスピレー ションカードから連想される自分の出身地の文化・価値、を考えても らった。続いて、(2) で見つけたローカルの文化・価値を (1) で整理し た自らの価値観に基づいてデザインしてもらい、クラス全体で共有し た。

Workshop for freshmen at Politecnicco di Milano We held a workshop in which students (participants) thought ideas to revitalize their hometowns, through reconsidering the values of their hometown. The students thought (i)what they priorities when they think new ideas (summarizing design philosophy) and (ii)similar values in their hometowns inspired by inspiration cards. Based on the values that they found in this work, they worked to create new idea to redesign one of the values, applying their design philosophy.

イタリア滞在の最初の目的地は、北部の大都市ミラノ。デザインフェ スティバル開催直前の１週間に滞在し、ミラノ工科大学の学生とのワー クショップを 2 回、そして社会活動家が集まる The Hub Milano でのラ ウンドテーブルを行った。これらは、Maru プロジェクトの初めから協 力している安西洋之氏、ミラノ工科大学のアレッサンドロ・ビアモン ティ教授にセッティングしていただいたものである。私達がミラノで の活動で目指したのは、Maru 協会が起こそうとしているスケールアウ ト型イノベーションという概念への反応、イタリアでの活動の方向性 を探ることであった。各ワークショップ、ラウンドテーブルでは、ま ずスケールアウト・イノベーションについて話し、続いて気仙沼での 体験を元に作ったインスピレーション・カードを紹介した。インスピ レーション・カードとは、気仙沼での発見に基づいて、各地域（ローカル） の文化、価値などを思い起こさせる事柄を記した 10 枚のカードである。 発表に続いて、各場所に応じたディスカッションやチームワークを行 うプログラムを用意した。イタリア人と議論することで、彼らの考え 方を具体的に知り、トラムートラでの調査における切り口を見つけて

デザイン案を考えるものであった。思考のトレーニングとして自由な 発想で考えるプロジェクトということで、元の油田施設に屋内農園を 作る、油田の周辺で牡蠣を育て施設内にオイスターバーを作る、など 5 つの案を紹介してくれた。昼食を挟んで午後は、気仙沼の現状と、工 科大の学生がプロジェクトを通して身につけた考え方をいかに組み合 わせることができるか、ブレインストーミングをした。3 つのグループ の進め方を比較すると、工科大の学生が考えていること、そしてイタ リア人のローカルに対する意識を理解することが、その場の議論とそ の後のプロジェクトの進行において重要であった。イタリア人の方が 地元に戻りたがる気持ちが強い、食文化では日本のインスタント食品 のように簡単に済ませることをあまり好まない、など彼らが持ってい るマインドは日本と大きく違うことに改めて気付かされた。

ミラノ工科大学の学部１年生向けの授業をお借りしてワークショップ を行った。この WS の目的は、各参加者が自分の地域の価値を再認識し、 気仙沼の価値と自分の地域の価値を（概念上で）組み合わせた、新し い自分の地域活性化アイデアを生み出すことである。今回は学部生が 対象であったことから、理解を深めるために姉妹都市と Maru プロジェ クトの違いを説明した。姉妹都市はある共通点の下友好関係を結ぶと いうだけのものであり、Maru は相互の持続的な交流から新しい価値を 創出する取り組みである、というものだ。その後、5 人 1 組のグループ を作り、新しいことを考えるときにどのような概念を重視しているか を単語や絵で表現してもらい、参加者それぞれのデザイン哲学を明示 化した。このデザイン哲学が手元にあることで、次の段階の地元の価 値を見直すときに、新しいアイデアを発想する手助けとすることが出 来 る の だ。次 に、Hub で の 議 論 か ら 見 つ け た ３ つ の キ ー ワ ー ド : "Pride", "Identity", "QOL(=Quality of Life)" から取り組むキーワードを選 んでもらった。Maru 協会のメンバーが選んだキーワードに沿ったイン スピレーションカードの内容を伝え、各チームの参加者は気仙沼の価 値と自分の地域の価値を思考上で対比させるフレームで、自分の地域 の価値を思い起こし書き出した。さらに、その価値をさらに良くする

We firstly flew to Milan to stay one week when the city has got excited for Milano Salone (design festival). We held two workshops at Politecnico di Milano (PoliMi) and a round-table at the Hub Milano.

These workshops and round-table were arranged by Mr. Hiroyuki Anzai and Professor Alessandro Biamonti at PoliMi, who have been our partners since we started the project. The primary goals of our activities in Milan were to see how Italian people would react to scale-out innovation, the very concept that we aim to achieve through connecting locals, and to identify projects we could do in Italy. At every workshop and round-table, a session started with our introduction to scale-out innovation. Following then we shared some visual cards called Inspiration Cards, which collected some qualities we identified in Kesennuma. Understanding what PoliMi students learned allowed us to fit their perspectives to Kesennuma. Even though we had expected many differences between PoliMi students and us, these discussions realized us many differences, especially in terms of perspective for locals. For example, we heard that many students want to go back to their hometown after their graduation and Italian tend to have more pride of their hometown than Japanese.

Welcoming Atmosphere of Tramutola Soon after I entered the town, I realized how much Tramutola people enjoy their life in the way that is totally different from Tokyo. First of all, people are extremely friendly; people of Tramutola pops out their head from their balcony to say hi to us. The elders seems to enjoy having conversations anywhere inside the town. We can find similar scenes in rural towns in Japan. But, the atmosphere of Tramutola is somewhat more open and intimate. It was something that I have never experienced before. Everyone in Tramutola seemed to know each other and talk with others frequently. The comfortable and friendly atmosphere had transcended on us and we realized that we are, too, feel more relaxed as we became used to the town. While many things happened in a relaxed manner in Tramutola, members of Pro-local showed another aspect, as they expressed strong passion to revive their dear town. As I had a different assumption that many of these Italian cities are opposed to the ideas of change, I was surprised to see their enthusiasm and realized that local people's open and passionate spirit are also important for our activities of Maru. Remembering that people in Kesennuma were also friendly to us, people in Tramutola and Kesennuma seemed like a great match as ever before.

Burning Firewood: The Odor of Tramutola Another thing that surprised me was the strong presence of fireplace.

In Tramutola we came across many fireplace using real firewoodd. I found that many house kept firewood and the smell of coal came from fireplaces in evening. Teresa, who guided us, told me "It is this smell that is symbolic to Tramutola!" Her comment made me realize, that each town has its own, distinctive scent; for example, the center of

Tokyo smells gas from cars, Kesennuma has a smell of sea, and my hometown has a smell of green grass. In Tramutola, it is the smell of coal and fireplace. Such lifestyle is today very valuable because few towns maintain such culture.

Using Ruins as Community Space Seeing all these values and assets of the town, my proposal is to create community space. Tramutola has many open-minded people who respect tradition yet willing to change. They town also holds many houses that are no longer in use. I came up with the idea that combines these assets in Tramutola with Japanese style fireplace, which are built on the floor and people gathers around it.

How about, perhaps, renovate an old house and build Japanese style fireplace in the center? Tramutola people can gather and discuss the future of the town at this house, heating cheeze in the center of participants. In addition to local people, Japanese visitors come this house often and introduce Japanese culture, food and new idea for activating the town. Japanese style fireplace with the assets of Tramutola will be a good place for interaction among local people and with foreign cultures. (Ippei NUMATA)

プライド・プライド・プライド！ 私のトラムートラにおける最大の学びと発見は「プライドの伝承」で ある。今回のフィールドワーク全体を通して、地元の方のトラムート ラに対するプライドは実に高いものであったように感じている。私た ちが出会った誰もが、自分達の街トラムートラに対して高いプライド をもっていた。地域において、そのようなことは当たり前なのかもし れない。ただトラムートラの方々が持っていたプライドとそれを伝承 させることで、起きている街の人々の変化には、学ぶことが多いと感 じた。今回は数多くあった出会いの中でも、そのことを表していると 感じた話しを２つほど紹介したいと思う。一つは地元の高校生と先生 が取り組んでいる発電プロジェクトの話し。そしてもう一つは、トラ ムートラにおけるプロローカルの取り組みの話しだ。

先生のプライドが生徒のプライドへ

した水力発電の模型だった。ここで私が述べたいのはその模型がすごい とか、斬新とかの話しではない。その模型を前に、トラムートラにおけ る水力発電の歴史と、それを踏まえて生徒たちが取り組んだ模型に対す る先生の熱い語りが非常に印象的だった。先生は高校生たちが取り組ん でいる模型を褒め、それを実現させようと思っていると熱く語った。そ して、生徒の作った作品を街のみなにも伝えるために、模型をこの場所 に置いているのだと先生は言った。また建物の奥には、先生の教え子が 昔作成し、いまでも稼働している小さな水力発電機があった。その発電 機を前に先生の生徒への熱い想いは続いた。どうやら、これを作った教 え子は、いまでは立派な一人前として水力発電の仕事に取り組んでいる ということだ。 「先生のプライドが生徒のプライドへ。」私はそれを強く感じた。生徒の 作品を街のみなに見せること、そして過去の教え子が作成した作品を形 として残し、いまの教え子たちで大切にする。そしてそれらを先生がプ

Pride, Pride, Pride!

To me, one of the most profound findings from Tramutola was its heritage of pride. Throughout the fieldwork, I felt that people are very proud of their town. Perhaps some would say that is quite typical for small towns to date. Nevertheless, I had the impression that this is still worth a mention, as this pride Tramutola people showed seems to be creating the power for the town to change. To address this, I would like to share two stories, which I learned during my stay in Tramutola.

From Teacher to Student: Pride Transcends Since a long long time ago, Tramutola has a place where people get together. It is where the water spring pours water, and this water creating a small river. The location is the place where Tramutola is represented the best, as people recognized as a very source of fresh and clean water provided not only to Tramutola itself, but also to the neibouring cities. Even until today, this is where women of the town get together for their laundry. Here people meet, and in the evenings, couple would tell their parents they are fetching some water, while everyone knows it is only a poor excuse.

Near this symbolic place, we were introduced to highschool students and their teacher. At first, it puzzled me, as this did not seem like an appropriate spot to meet students. But as we talked with them, we realized that in fact this was the perfect place to meet.

What they showed us was a model of a hydro power generator made by the highschool students. The model was impressive but that was not what moved me the most. It was in fact the way the teacher had passionately told us, about the history of the hydro power generator in Tramutola, and how students put so much effort into making the model. Then he told us, that in order to let this great effort by students be known other people of the town, he made sure that the model was presented at the location. And his passion continued, as he showed us a little working hydro power generator made by his previous student. The student, according to the teacher, has become a professional engineer, who today works in the actual hydro energy industry.

The pride of the teacher transcends to his students. The teacher makes sure that his students' work are visible to other people, not only while they are at school, but even once they have graduated. He motivates the students and stir up their pride, which I am sure, to nurture the sense of pride and leadership towards the town. It is that strong passion and pride that teacher holds, that creates the local leaders of the next generation.

The pride of Pro-local recalls the people's pride In several areas of Italy, we have heard there are people who are engaged in pro-local work in order to vitalize their local. Pro-local people try to stimulate their local by themselves because they do not expect the support from the government. And these pro-local members of Tramutola, in fact, were the ones who supported our fieldwork.

Activities of Pro-local did not succeed in all places. In some places, people do not work, but drink and play games from the morning.

Pro-local members in Tramutola were different. They had strong message that they want to change their town and stop the decline.

Their pride in their town and their will to keep the town motivates their activities.

As not all people in the town are member of Pro-local, some people are not willing to help Pro-local activities. The members are going to build a monument at the entrance of the town. However, as the budget is limited, they had to seek volunteer to make some part of the monument. They asked a carpenter who had retired to help the project, but he declined their offer. The members did not give up and continued to talk to him about the pride of the town. The pride of the pro-locals transcended and the carpenter eventually decided to participate in the project.

The story shows that the pride developed from the love for the hometown can motivate the other people's pride and action. I believe that the key for vitalizing local is to find the pride that people can share and to share it.

Generally speaking, people who had pride tend not to pay attention to other people's opinion, still less to outsiders. However, people who we met in Tramutola were not like that. They have deep pride in their town but have flexible mind to listen to outsiders' opinion, to keep their beautiful town. (Yu OGAWA)

村の安心感 トラムートラの村の暮らしには安心感がある。しかしそんなはずはな いのだ。この村も他の多くのローカルと同様に過疎化、高齢化が進ん でいるし、この 100 年に起きた経済活動の変化によって村の安定した 暮らしは確実に失われたはずである。そう考えるなら不安で夜も眠れ ないはずなのに、それにもかかわらず、村には不思議な安心感がある ように感じられるのだ。この感覚は何なのか。哲学者の山内節氏は「そ れは記憶と理性のくい違いだ」と言っている。「長い人類史を経てつく られた人間の記憶が、村は永遠の安心感につつまれていると感じさせ るのだ。畑や森や川があり村がある。村人たちは、畑の作り方も、森

手振りで聞くと、はぁという顔をしてから、ポモドーロの大きなプラ イパンを持った腕で勢いまかせに手招きした。キッチンの隅で見学さ せてもらった。ジョアンナが軒先のクルスキを持ってきて、ヘタと種 を取り出しながら料理の話をしてくれる。イタリア語なのでほとんど わからないが、彼女が鼻唄まじりに料理する様子を見ているだけで、 ムクムクと期待が膨らむ。料理前の生のラビオリを持ってきて、中を 開いて見せてくれた。食べてみろと言う。 「あっ、リコッタチーズ！ボー ノ！」。ジョアンナが笑う。「シィー、リコッタチーズ！」。昨日の昼食 のリコッタチーズがあまり美味しく、わーわーと騒いだので、今日の

Tramutola: the Peace of Mind As you as you step into the town of Tramutola, you see how much people of the town enjoy their lives there. The peace that surrounds the town takes us visitors as a surprise. After all, Tramutola, just like many other villages in Japan, should be suffering from ageing and depopulation: They must have lost their comfortable lives due to tremendous changes in economy over the last century. Even though they have same problems as many local towns, the town seemed to be comfortable and stable.

What makes Tramutola so different from the rural areas of Japan?

Takashi Yamauchi, a Japanese philosopher describes that comfortable image of local town comes from the gap between memories and reason. "Memories engraved to us humans makes us believe there is comfort and eternal stability in rural towns. There are fields, forests and rivers. People who live there are accustomed to the environment. The memories that are succeeded from their ancestors make them believe that the village satisfies everything that they want. On the other hand, their reasons are aware of what is happening in the village.

This in fact makes sense. The peace of mind that I have felt in a village which I have never been before, perhaps comes from a memory we all human beings hold to a village. During the two days I have spent in Tramutola, I was struck by this sense of comfort for several times.

Then, a fabulous smell of tomato and garlic came from the kitchen of the hotel. I could not help and peaked inside of the kitchen. In a small kitchen, Joanna, a chef of the hotel, was preparing lunch for us in a serious and efficient manner. Without words, I signed if I could get in.

Joanna s serious face quickly disappeared and then let me inside as she waved her arm swinging a pan.

I saw her cooking in a corner of the kitchen. She brought cruski and told me about how to prepare, getting rid of seeds and calyx. I barely understood what she said in Italian, yet my expectation rose as she cooked and hummed. She then opened up a raw raviori and showed me what was stuffed inside. She told me to take a bite: "Wow, Ricotta cheese, delicious!" She laughed and said "Si, Ricotta cheese". Ricotta cheese was something that fascinated us the day before, and she kindly included another Ricotta inside the ravioli. Ricotta cheese is made in the factory in the town every morning. It reminded us of Tofu back in Japan.

How Tramutola Stays Close with Its Histoy

As I walked in the town and listen to the explanation, I realized that here in Tramutola, people have a completely different notion on history from us Japanese. They seemed to regard the things that happened in the last century as if it only happened yesterday. How come, they can be so close to the local history?

There are some signs in town. Firstly,we realized many architecture had long history since the day it was built. People told us many stories about the buildings, such as "This bar was once a one-and-only pharmacy in town, you can see there is an emblem of a snake there." This took as a surprise, as in Japan, buildings were made of wood and most are torn down long before it reaches one hundred years, if not fifty. What is more, we consider as One building, one purpose : Most architectures are rebuilt when its purpose is changed. If a pharmacy stops to operate, so as the building itself and is quickly torn down. As a result, after a few decades, perhaps statues and monuments maybe left but the rest disappear to be replaced by the new.

On the other hand, most houses in Tramutola were easily a few hundred

the wall, which would not be easy to create in the craftsmanship of living history, would definitely have an influence on how close people would feel about the events that took place in town across time.

Post 3.11 Japan Needs Personal Stories Than Monuments As much as the architecture held stories about the past, what struck me was the very fact that history was not about mere, objective facts, but rather, remained as the target of personal storytelling. Many people in Tramutola were able to tell stories about the architecture and events, as if they have seen them with their own eyes. Surely, this is now how Japanese would talk about the history of the town.

Having such a subjective relationship with history cannot be more important today. As the terrible disaster hit Japan on March 11th, 2011, there seems to be a lot to learn from how people of Tramutola remains close to their history. After the tsunami struck the Northeastern Japan, many cities have realized there were in fact stone markings and monuments from the ancestors, which warned us the danger of great tsunami. But somehow, as the time passed, we forgot and the monuments was just old, still objects. In order to keep the history and learnings alive, we see, it is more important that the stories are handed down as personal stories, handed down from generation to generation.

Three ideas students have introduced have been unanimously welcomed with great passion and empathy of the Tramutola people who filled up the town hall.

Accommodating foreign interns is not new in Japan, as a small and aging community of Ama Town in Shimane Prefecture has already drawn our attention as a successful case to revive local community.

Bringing in foreigners and utilizing their fresh eyes to recapture the local values and issues is definitely promising approach.

気仙沼で観光客が食べるものといえば、カツオのたたき、マグロのさ しみ、殻付き牡蠣。珍しいところでは

いただく夏に最高のつまみ）などである。これらの共通点は生で食べ るということだ。素材の味を活かすには生食が一番である。しかし、 それは一つの価値観に過ぎないのだ。それに気づかせてくれたのがト ラムートラである。 私たちが今回『MARU プロジェクト∼気仙沼 × トラムートラ∼』で訪 れた南イタリアのトラムートラは山間の小さな村。ここでのジョアン ナの心尽くしの料理が素晴らしかった。とくに驚いたのはバカラのう まさである。バカラとは干ダラのことで、４日かけて水で戻し、たっ ぷりのオリーブオイルとハーブを使ってつくる。この味と調理法に思 わず唸ってしまった。 食卓を見回してみるとジョアンナの料理には保存食がたくさん使われ ている。ハム、チーズはもちろんのこと、ドライトマト、クルスキ（乾 燥赤ピーマン）、そしてバカラ（干ダラ）。どれもこの土地で昔から食 べられてきたものだという。フレッシュトマトや特産のオリーブオイ ル、手作りパスタを組み合わせる料理法をジョアンナはとてもよく知っ ていた。 翻ってみると気仙沼でも、昔から干したわかめやアワビが食べられて きたし、なによりフカヒレを作らせたら世界一の技術がある。しかし、 これまでは刺身などの生食が珍重され、乾物は「それ以外のもの」と して注目されることが少なかった。これをドライフードという枠組み で切り出すことで、新しい視点から気仙沼の産物と人々の食生活を見 直してみようと思い至った。当然、乾物を作るには新鮮な魚が欠かせ ないわけだし、「スローフード」都市宣言をしている港町・気仙沼なら ばうってつけではないか。 つまり、今回トラムートラで見つけた宝は「ドライフード」という「気 仙沼の魅力を再評価する切り口」といえる。

ドライフードにつまった知恵を味わうべく、ドライフード・ ラボを開催する。 発見やプロセスを共有するために食べるだけでなく、生産者、 調理人、生活者など様々視点に加え、歴史文化の背景を学ぶ。 うまみの奥にある小さな発見を重ねれば、ドライフードを食 べるのが楽しくなるはずである。この取り組みを「スローフー ドの町・気仙沼」から発信する。

Dry Food Use: Treasure of Tramutola

tuna sashimi, oysters in shells; if they are lucky, they will be able to taste delicacies such as the shark heart and sunďŹ sh. What all these have in common is that they are eaten raw: the best way to taste is to eat as it is. That is the common belief among the locals and the tourists.

But is it really so? Tramutola gave us new ways to see these ingredients.

Tramutola, a small village located between the mountains in South of Italy, has made us realize. Every dish served by Joanna was delicious.

What caught our eyes in particular was the taste of Baccara, the dried cod. The taste and the way it was cooked has inspired us greatly.

When we look around the kitchen, we cannot help noticing there are many preserved ingredients utilized in Joanna s dishes. Ham, cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, dried red pepper, and baccara (dried cod). All the

inspiration we gained from Tramutola, has led us to an opportunity in ways we can eat food.

Our Proposal: Dry Food Lab In order to savor the knowledge that is condensed in dry food, we propose to organize an event called Dry Food Lab. Period:

トラムートラで気づいた地域のプライドの共有が生み出 す未来

廃墟を活かした地域住民による地域住民のための美術館

トラムートラでは、生徒の作品を街のみなに見せることや、過去の教え

子が作成した作品を形として残し、いまの教え子たちでそれを大切にす ることで、地域のプライドを伝承させている。そしてそれらを先生がプ ライドをもって生徒に伝え続けている。こういった一連の活動が、高校 生たちの心に火をつけ、未来の地域のリーダーになるために必要なプラ イドを生徒に持たせている。これだけではない。トラムートラの案内を 受ける中で、私たちは地域のプライドを数多く紹介され、大きく刺激さ れた。では、それが地域住民の間で共有されているかというと、そうい うわけではなさそうだ。高校の例を除くと、地域における各プライドは 分散・暗黙知化しているように感じた。これだけプライドがある地域な のにもったない。こうしたプライドをきっかけに生まれる新たな価値は あるのではないか。なんとかこのプライドを共有する方法はないのだろ

トラムートラの街には、数多くの廃墟がある。トラムートラの中心街に なった家庭にとって、この狭さは交通や駐車の面で非常に不便であり、 街の外へ住む選択肢を加速させた。こうして、街には多くの廃墟が生ま れたのである。ただし、廃墟とは言え、内装を改装すれば、十分に利用 可能な建物も少なくない。実際に、湧き水が出ている小さな広場のすぐ 立地している廃墟は、部屋の一つの内装を改装し、ちょっとしたイベン ト時に使えるようにしている。今回、私たちのさよならパーティもこの 部屋が使われ、地域の人々と踊るなどをして交流した。ここは地域の人々 にとって親しみを持てる場であり、交流の場だ。このことから、廃墟を 美術館のような別用途として再活用することは、資金面でも、地域住民 にとっての親しみやすさかもが可能であると言える。

Finding: Sharing the Local Pride

Idea: Museum by the Locals, for the Locals

In Tramutola, we saw a positive cycle of sharing students work between

In downtown area of Tramutola, we found countless ruins: we learned

the local citizens and new students. Teachers, who inform everyone else what students from the local school have accomplished, plays a key role as a messenger to enhance the local pride and identity.

While we were hugely inspired by these works, we realized that the local people are not necessarily aware of these assets and the important role that teachers play. We felt there still lies a bigger opportunty: How can these qualities of the city can be shared with a bigger audience?

Opportunity: Utilizing Rias Ark Museum to Preserve Local Culture Our above observation reminded us about our locale, Kesennuma. In Kesennuma, there is a museum called Rias Ark, a concept of which is to be a large ark that accommodates the past (the local history and the culture), the present, and the future (emerging culture and values).

that the ownership of cars and the narrow roads have driven many people to move out from the downtown area. However, these ruins are in good shape and many have opportunities to be utilized.

Our Proposal: My Museum Our proposal is to renovate one of the ruins inside Tramutola as a placeholder or a museum to exhibit works and art pieces, which represent the pride of the locals. We feel that this place could become a center for the locals to exchange their values, which often become unnoticed or taken for granted and to renew themselves based on the such values.
