Welcome, Stephen Shafer, District Superintendent, FEH BOCES Leadership is a Choice, not a Position with Gary McGuey, Consultant, The Leader in Me The 4 essential roles of leadership: Even in the most turbulent times, there are four roles leaders play that are highly predictive of success. We call them essential, because as leaders consciously lead themselves and their teams in alignment with these roles, they lay the foundation for effective leadership.  Inspire Trust: Be the credible leader others choose to follow-one with both character and competence.  Create Vision: Clearly define where your team is going and how they are going to get there.  Execute Strategy: Consistently achieve results with and through others using disciplined processes.  Coach Potential: Unleash the ability of each person on your team to improve performance, solve problems, and grow their careers.

Restorative Justice: An Overview for Administrators with Shannon Pitcher-Boyea, Literacy Coach, St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES We all know establishing, maintaining and sustaining relationships are critical for transforming school communities. Saying it is one thing, doing it is another. In this session, participants will gain an overview of restorative practices and restorative justice, who is using, and why. Participants will also learn the flow of a foundational circle, a practice that can transform your school community and culture. By strengthening relationships in the classroom to the board room, this work builds that community in which we all belong. Restorative Justice assists us in problem solving, repairing harm, and healing, which are elements often left out of a traditional zero tolerance system. When we punish in traditional ways, we activate the stress response system often re-enacting trauma. In the age of building trauma informed and trauma sensitive systems, we know better, so therefore we must do better. If you want to be a part of something transformational in education, if you want to do something different and create an equitable, dignified experience for all, you need to be learning about and doing this work. Nearpod with St. Lawrence Lewis BOCES Model Schools Staff Participants will learn how to use this interactive classroom tool for teachers to engage students with interactive lessons.

School Climate: Leading with Collective Efficacy with Dr. Peter Dewitt School climate is a multi-layered topic. It involves all the complexities of meeting the academic and social-emotional needs of students, as well as how to get the adults in the school to focus on both. In this presentation, Dr. DeWitt will cover topics such as self-efficacy, collective efficacy, surface to deep level learning, trauma, minoritized populations, and how leaders can create a space where all of those issues cannot just be solved, but how the potential of all students can be maximized.

Leverage Technology: Leading in the North Country with Leah McConaughey and Paul Facteau, Apple, Inc. How do we, as education leaders, help our students learn today and prepare them for a rapidly changing world? A driving force behind this change is technology. It affects the way we communicate, the way we work, the way we live day-to-day, and the way we lead. It also empowers every individual—and every learner—to create amazing things and make a difference in the world. But first, we need to raise the bar for what’s expected, and what’s possible, for learning with technology. Join Apple for a discussion about how to leverage technology to make learning and leading more productive in the North Country.
