RESONANCE By Felix Hansson
Manifesto
Enitial sketches
In a time when heavy wind blows and a constant shifting of the water level, people tend to feel that the new environment is not doing them anything but harm. The need for converting negative effect to something positive is essential.
The three different resorts are situated to generate different kinds of atmospheres and each of them uses a specific way to generate it. The Membrane creates a rhythmic and irregular atmosphere composed with different rooms for a variety of resonance possibilities. The String, which is located at the inside of the pier where the water is calmer, generates a melancholic atmosphere. The Pipe, which is situated at the very end of the pier where the hard winds and waves are constantly present, generates a noisy and ruff atmosphere.
Music is generated by movement and these movements can be translated from the energy of the strong wind and big waves into music. The proposal contains of three music resorts, which all are using their own method to generate music. One by membrane, another by strings and the third by pipes. Every resort is given a specific atmosphere depending on their way to generate music and where they are situated.
Roof plan
Within every resort the space is divided to get a variety of assembles which all create a specific atmosphere. The weather condition is the generator, and the energy is always affecting the outcome of the resorts. When storms are heavy the velocity changes, and when sea is raising the key shifts. The physical spaces at the resorts are shaped to generate inner cells with a specific resonance; from the outside of these spaces you get one kind of sound, inside a totally different one.

RESONANCE/membrane In the Membrane resort a rhythmic and irregular atmosphere is created. Different rooms propotions generates a big variety of the sound. Spaces are created to generate different resonance possibilities and to enhance specific tones and melodies.
Section
The wave piano. Water hits the membranes and gives the visitors a rhythmic musical entry. A high water velocity generates a high tone frequency and the amount of energy of the weather determines the variety of the tones.
A big membrane gets hit depending on the wave velocity and water streams.

Water drops in to the pipes and hits the membranes and creates different sound relations. The sea level determine the key and tube dimensions determine frequency.

At a calm condition the different generated sounds stay within a given key, depending on the sea level hight. At a dynamic and extreme condition there will be constant key transitions and a more experimental music relations.

RESONANCE/string The String is located at the inside of the pier where the water is calmer and a melancholic atmosphere is generated. A round slope continues through the whole “eardrum like structure. This creates a big variety of tone assembly and different chords colorings. The sound characteristics are changing along the path down to the bottom. At the end, where the lowest frequencies are dominating, the resonance crates a vibration which as well is noticeable.

Wind and water movement generates tone where the velocity determines the frequency

RESONANCE/pipe The Pipe is situated at the very end of the pier, where the most extreme weather is located. This creates a noisy and ruff atmosphere and the building whistles out the energy hearable from a far distance.

Note arrangement
The tone frequency is shifting depending on the location. High frequency tones at the top, due to the dimension of the pipe, and a continuously transition to lower frequencies along the voyage down.
Wind blows trough the pipes and a noisy sound is generated. The velocity of the wind determines the ton frequency

Water pushes air though the pipes and sound is generated
Small pipes generate diverse tones creating different cords coloring along the path. The ground tone, generated by the pipe you walk in to, is constantly shifting its’ part in the cords.
