2 GREAT SUMMER OFFERS FROM SPECSAVERS 20% OFF for over 50s and Suneez Sunglasses for Children 29€ with lifetime guarantee
Expert tips to look after your eyes in the heat
During the summer months it is important we take steps to look after our eyes when out in the sun as well as our skin. To help you keep your eyes healthy this summer, here are some top tips from Optometrist and Store Director Cecilia Navarro from Specsavers Ópticas in Jávea. Wear sunglasses - UV rays can damage our vision as well as our skin. Prolonged UV exposure has been linked to cataracts, macular degeneration, and even some types of eye cancer. Sunglasses are not just fashion accessories – it is particularly important that you wear a good pair that offer high levels of UV protection and conform to agreed safety standards. Look out for UV400 markings and aim for a pair that offer 80 percent light reduction. Don’t forget the little ones - Children’s eyes let in more light than adults, due to their large pupils and clear lenses, which means that a significant proportion of our eyes’ lifetime exposure to UV occurs when we are young. Children should be wearing sunglasses from the age of three to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun’s UV rays. If children are not protected from an early age, the UV radiation from the sun can cause cell damage, which will put them at a higher risk of complications later down the line. Apply SPF to your eyelids - The skin on our eyelids is extremely thin and can burn very easily – especially if you doze off while sunbathing. Make sure you use a cream which is suitable for the
delicate and sensitive area and take care when applying so as not to get any lotion in your eye. Know how to deal with irritants in the eye – If you get lotion in your eye you need to irrigate and flush your eye out with water. Remain calm as the more you blink, the more damage you could be causing. Try to flush it out or see your optician who can swab to remove the foreign body and, depending on the type of injury, use drops or ointment to help prevent infection. Never wear contacts in water - Do not wear your contact lenses while swimming as there is a risk of serious infection if you wear them in a pool or the sea. Prescription swimming goggles are a good alternative. Suneez, a range of non-prescription sunglasses for children aged 3-12 have just been launched at Specsavers. Priced at 29€ with lifetime guarantee, Suneez are a great way to insure that children’s eyes are properly protected. Colours available are black, pink and blue – in small and medium sizes.

The on-going issue of the lack of reading and understanding of policy documents is still necessary for all your insurances. Very few seem to be aware of the importance of first checking your policy documents are totally correct with all the right information, especially with car policies that the number plate is correct. Also these documents must be kept in the car, but is far better to ensure you have copies, should the vehicle be stolen. For your home policies, ensuring that the address is correct and the same as the catastral, will make life a lot easier, should you need to claim. Without understanding your insurance documents, you will not be fully aware of your exact coverage, should anything happen. Many people under-insure, which is a very unwise decision. More so now, with climate change and the ever changing, unpredictable weather. With the increases to both inflation and the cost of living, unfortunately burglaries are on the increase, especially with unoccupied properties. Ensure you understand what you need to do to not only protect your property, but also ensure you are covered with your insurance. It is well worth ensuring you know what to do when anything happens - know what telephone numbers to call, and what you will be required to provide. Obviously health insurance is a little more complicated. Ensure you know what information you need, have the contact details with you at all times and it helps to store the telephone numbers in your telephone, along with your policy number. If you are unsure how to use your medical insurance, ask your agent or broker. If you have an accident on the streets, people will automatically telephone for a state ambulance and you will then be taken to a seguridad social hospital, where you have the choice of either being transferred to a private hospital, or stay and pay the invoice if you do not have a SIP card. It is always better to be prepared, I know that insurance documents are not easy reading but it always pays to know and understand your policy. It will make your life easier, less stressful and in some cases, will prevent large unexpected bills. To help you with your claim, I have a special Claim Administrator to guide you through the process with Liberty Seguros, an ASSSA administrator to assist you with your health policy and a renewals department to help you with your renewals, and checking that your policy coverage is correct and up to date. Outside of my office hours, all the insurance have emergency contact information, which comes with your policy. · For further information or a quotation, please contact one of my offices, email info@jennifercunningham.net or visit the website www.jennifercunningham.net.

Well, that was a warm start to the summer, and if the predictions are anything to go by it's going to continue. Darling daughter had a bit of a wobble when she realised that the grandchildren are now off school for 12 weeks. It really is a long time for children to be way from education, but without air-conditioning in most of the schools, it's just too hot for them to be able to concentrate. I was melting just watching their end of school dances. I think the plan is to stay in the pool until September - I may well be joining them as that seems the only cool place at the moment. Be patient on the roads this month as the holiday makers return.
Until next time, take care and be kind.

Financial Advice from our family to yours
What factors separate one adviser from another? What should investors be looking out for when engaging with a financial adviser?
I
am sure many of us will have found ourselves in a situation where we have gone ahead with the first piece of advice a specialist recommends to us, especially if they are in a field which we are not overly familiar with. However, sometimes it pays to seek a second opinion. In our industry as financial advisers, we come across many clients who presume that all advisers do exactly the same job on exactly the same terms. In reality, this is not the case. Although many advisers have the same solutions available to them, some might be restricted in the products they can offer, and others may favour one product over another at outset. Does this mean that they are finding the best and most suitable solution for your needs? Perhaps not. Other areas where advice companies can also differ are; Charges: Even if different advisers recommend the same product to you, this does not automatically mean it will cost you the same amount. We know from experience that there is a significant difference in the amounts each adviser will charge a client so it is definitely worth making sure you fully understand all of the fees. Regulation: The majority of firms will be regulated via some jurisdiction, but it is always worth checking you know exactly where. It will protect you as an investor. Qualifications: There is currently no “minimum standard” here in Spain like there is in the UK, but qualifications highlight credentials and knowledge. In the UK, the minimum standard to advise clients is Diploma status (level 4) but a lot of advisers in Spain have not reached this level. Personality & Trust: A financial adviser, client/ family relationship should be built for the long-term. It is therefore important to really feel comfortable with the adviser you are dealing with.
If you sit down with an adviser and they seem reluctant to let you seek a second opinion, or you feel rushed into making a decision, it is probably because the adviser knows that they might come out as second best in at least one of the categories mentioned above. At Logic, we never shy away from clients who want to “shop around”. To the contrary, we actively encourage it as we know it will showcase the benefits of choosing our company. We have been told by a number of our existing clients that you cannot underestimate the benefits of working with a family run business. Aside from the level of trust this provides, it is also noticeable how clients warm to the fact that we treat them as “our clients” as opposed to “his” or “her” client, which they may have experienced in the past. 6 reasons to choose us: 1 We are fully regulated and licensed. 2 We have multiple advisers qualified to UK diploma level. 3 We are an award-winning family run business. 4 We disclose any remuneration and are 100% transparent. 5 We have over 45 years combined experience. 6 We pride ourselves on the personal touch.
Next time you have a financial concern, why not get in contact with us to discover the difference?

GET YOUR HOME READY FOR SUMMER! We all want to make the most of the summer but apart from thinking about the beach, on vacations, or about that dreamed trip, it’s important that we all take the necessary steps to ensure our homes stay safe and secure. Unfortunately, the probability of being burgled or robbed at home tends to be higher during the summer! As we are likely to spend more time away from home, even for days if we plan to go on holiday, we want to give you some tips on how to minimise the chances of your home being burgled and, in the unfortunate event that it does happen, to make sure you're covered! • Talk to your insurance agent to make sure that your contents cover are properly calculated, including furniture, white good and electronic appliances, clothes, jewelry, personal belongings, etc. • Make sure that your doors and windows are in good condition and check all locks are working and get a home security system to help reduce the chance of being a burglary victim. • Make your home look lived in, for example, you could invest in some timer switches for your lights to give the impression that someone is home. • Ask your neighbours or a friend to keep watch of your home and collect the post from your postbox • Create a list of emergency contacts if anything was to go wrong in your home. • Don’t share holiday plans or pictures on social media or adjust your privacy settings to make sure you are not sharing personal information with the wrong people • Beware of squatters! Make sure your home insurance covers the Legal Defense in case of illegal occupation of the property
But in summer, it's not just a possible burglary of your home that you need to watch out for. There are small inconveniences that come with the heat, such as annoying pests and insects!! Fortunately, there are home insurance policies that include pest control, fumigation, and disinfection services. In summer we also like to enjoy our home outdoors, and it is interesting to have a cover for our garden furniture, even for the garden itself, in case of a summer storm! You may also have a second home for holiday rentals. In that case, make sure that you have a specific cover for holiday rentals, including public liability for your guests. L I B E R T Y SEGUROS has adapted its Home Insurance plans to provide solutions that best suit your individual requirements giving you the option of being covered for all these eventualities. Understanding that every customer’s needs are unique, it has created additional coverages to allow you to enhance and complement your home insurance cover. Discover a haven of tranquillity away from the tourist throngs
By Rhona Wells - rhonawells@hotmail.com Located 10 minutes away from Denia and 15 minutes from Jávea, the hidden L’Albarba Gardens have a lot to offer. began the ambitious task of creating an extensive Mediterranean garden and then set about an ambitious project of conservation. L’Albarda Gardens is now managed by Fundem, the Enrique Montoliu Foundation, -established in 1996- with the strictest sustainability criteria. It is a reference model in the world of Mediterranean gardening with regard to the implementation or restoration of gardens, whether public or private, in order to preserve our landscape. To find out more about this worthwhile organisation go to https//fundem.org The garden is a model of excellence in the world of Mediterranean gardens. Created in 1990, it demonstrates the great richness of the flora that thrive in this climate. With an area of 50,000 m2, it has more than 700 species of native plants, some of them endemic. This garden shows the great diversity of our local flora, which stands out for its beauty in each of the seasons. It is incredibly diverse from the orange blossom in the spring on parterres of strawberries and violets (the violets are planted as they protect the strawberries from slugs - a great example of plant husbandry). In April, you can enjoy the cornuptia of wisteria, pale lilac and very fragrant, a tropical atrium with a living wall offers a different experience, a shaded palm tree oasis offers added relaxation and the pathways edged with fragrant roses add to the delightful experience. The land on which the Albarda Garden extends was previously an orchard of orange and lemon trees, a good piece of land with views of the picturesque Montgó and the coast of Dénia. In the 1980s, the Valencian businessman Enrique Montoliu acquired the plot with the idea of converting it into a house with a garden. After building a private home in the style of a Tuscan mansion, he
In addition to its botanical biodiversity, L’Albarda has a formal garden, orchards and wild gardens. These recreate the ancient Renaissance gardens of Valencia, which were widely influenced by Arab culture. One area is particularly reminiscent of the Majorelle Garden in Marrakesh designed by Yves St Laurent with its vibrant colour scheme of orange and blue. Visitors will be transported to ancient times as they wander the walkways, pergolas and areas of outstanding natural beauty. These characteristics brought recognition to the garden from the Universitat Politècnica de València and it was awarded with the Magister Award for Landscaping in 2002. Meander around and you will find ponds covered in waterlilies, frogs and dragonflies, further along discover waterfalls as well as ornamental fountains with ponds full of carp and the occasional turtle. Various statues and artefacts are dotted around the place. You can never tire of discovering more and can easily spend a couple of hours strolling quietly through the garden, unhurried, enjoying its nooks and crannies and its less landscaped parts. The many benches scattered around the land invite you to sit back and enjoy. A small café offers refreshments as well as delicious homemade cakes. As well as being a peaceful quiet spot, L’Albarda run concerts, book launches (recently Carol Drinkwater and Peter Morrell) and much more including painting exhibitions. The gardens are open daily from 10am to 2pm, in summer from 15 June to 15 September they also open in the evening from 6pm to 9pm. Admission costs 6€, or family ticket (2 adults, 2 children ) 15€. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, adults 8€, family 22€. You can join Fundem for 30€ a year to help protect our environment; this gives you free access to the gardens, special members concerts and discounts on all events. THE STEAM POD
Mimiskru now have the amazing steam pod service. A straightening iron that works with steam, rather than direct heat, to straighten or curl your hair. The biggest benefit of the steam pod is getting rid of frizz. It actually adds moisture directly into the hair shaft leaving your hair at saturation point which makes your hair immune to humidity, which means it is longer lasting. Take it from me, I’m the salon owner of Mimiskru and if you know me I have very curly frizzy hair.
The Steam Pod was introduced to me by a fellow colleague in the UK. I bought, I tried, I love! My hair stayed straight for a whole week, even when I woke up the next day after straightening, I just brushed my hair and voila it stayed straight. The Steam Pod has been out now for 5 years and I’m amazed I had never heard about it before. But, here we are better late than never. The straightening iron certainly has saved our lives for the past 20/30 years. But, as we are all aware the straightener isn’t very good for the hair, it applies heat directly to the hair which can cause damage especially with excessive use. Thank goodness for Olaplex that now resolves that problem. But, the Steam Pod is more of a smoothing tool. It has a cylinder that holds water which creates pressurised steam that adds moisture to the inner
shaft of your hair, whilst running it over each section. So think of it like ironing a silk blouse or steaming a silk blouse. I know what I prefer. Top Tip with The Steam Pod, visit Mimiskru and have yourself a Steam Pod experience, it's not for everyone. But, it could be a life changing hair experience, frizz free, for long lasting effects. In just a few minutes experience a smooth volumizing effect, targeting roots to ends. Lifting at a 90 degree angle to lift the roots, the more vertical you start the bigger the root lift, keeping your volume. Feel the glamour, be the glamour. Mimiskru will teach you! ● Local 12, Edificio Caribe, Av del Pla 129, Jávea. Tel 965 793 584. www.mimiskruhairandbeauty.com Facebook Mimiskru. See our advert on the Horoscopes page.

Chinese rocket parts falling back to earth, captured on camera
Focus On Costa Blanca Magazine July 2022
By Christine Ord – Secretary of the Costa Blanca Astronomical society You may have seen some news reports of space debris falling back to earth on 20 June. This was part of a rocket used to launch a capsule taking several Chinese taikonauts to the Chinese Space Station. The rocket was launched on 5 June, but it was noticed that various parts of rocket began falling back into earth’s atmosphere around 20 June and burning up. The re-entry occurred over the Atlantic, off the coast of Morocco. From there, the pieces of the rocket advanced in a northeasterly direction, flying over the Strait of Gibraltar. After that they continued over the Mediterranean Sea, passing very close to the Almería coast. Finally, the burned remains died out over the Mediterranean, between the coasts of Murcia and Algeria. The re-entry of part of this rocket was captured by a camera installed in the Denia area jointly by the Costa Blanca Astronomical society and the Asociacion Astronomia de Marina Alta. The camera was installed primarily to monitor the passage of meteors in the night sky and to help in locating any meteor debris that may actually fall to earth. It is part of the Global Meteor Network, which is a cooperative group of amateurs and professionals who have installed cameras at their locations and send report of meteors in their area to the Global network. As the camera monitors the sky every night, looking for movement, it will also capture other objects that are fast moving and this is exactly what happened on the night of 20 June. The Chinese rocket debris entered the field of view of the camera for a second
or two and then zoomed away. On the last 2 frames of the captured images, you can even see parts of the rocket breaking away from the main piece. The management of the Global meteor network confirmed that the trajectory and timing of the debris capture match exactly with the rocket parts re-entry. The camera has been in operation for only 2 months, so it is quite exciting to have captured something so unique. DAO Deficiency I suffer with migraines and bloating on a regular basis and am becoming increasingly concerned. What could be the cause of this? Consult with your GP as DAO Deficiency could be the root of the problem. This occurs when there is an alteration in the metabolism of food histamine that appears when the DAO enzyme activity is low. In other words, when for some reason there is a significant deficiency in the functional activity of the main enzyme in the metabolism of histamine. The imbalance between ingested histamine and the histamine released from the histamine storage cells, leads to histamine accumulation in the plasma of the blood, triggering the occurrence of adverse effects on health. In healthy people, histamine taken with food is degraded quickly by Diamine Oxidase (DAO) enzyme, but people with low functional DAO activity have the risk of suffering histamine intolerance. Unlike food allergy, the occurrence of symptoms is not linked to the intake of specific food; not only can it be related to a wide variety of food with different histamine contents, but symptoms can also occur even after the ingestion of products with low histamine levels. Contact your GP for further investigations if you are suffering from: • Migraine or vascular headaches. • Constipation, diarrhoea, flatulence, or regular bloating. • Dermatological disorders such as dry skin, atopy, or psoriasis. • Fibromyalgia and Chronic fatigue.

How avocado stones
reduce cholesterol
Avocado is well-known for its nutritional qualities. As Spain is the leading European avocado producer in Europe, it’s satisfying to buy local, seasonal avocados. But did you know that infusions made with the avocado stone can help you lose weight and fight cholesterol? The avocado stone contains 70% of the amino acids of the entire fruit and you can use all this goodness in infusions. The stone has many positive qualities including: ● It helps to lose weight and speeds up the metabolism of lipids, which means it improves fat burning. ● Reducing cholesterol due to its high content of amino acids, fighting the risk of cardiovascular diseases. ● It combats cellular aging due to its high content of antioxidants, and vitamins E and C. ● It has antiinflammatory properties and can help to treat muscle pain. ● It improves digestion and reduces constipation due to its astringent properties and its high content of soluble fibre. ● Helps improve circulation due to its fatty acids. ● Strengthens the immune system and prevents various diseases, due to its antioxidants. However, the avocado stone is not recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or taking anticoagulants. As with most things, the infusions should be taken in moderation. How to prepare avocado tea 1. Wash the avocado stone. 2. Cut it into four pieces and remove the outer skin. 3. Put a litre of water to boil and add the avocado pit and a little cinnamon. 4. Let the avocado seed cook for 15 minutes over low heat. 5. Remove the infusion from the heat and let it cool for a few minutes. 6. Add honey if it isn’t sweet enough for your tastes. 8, 9 and 10 July La Nucía returns to the Middle Ages In the second weekend of July, the old town of La Nucía will be transformed for the 15th time into a bustling market from the Middle Ages. Amata - the organising association - has contracted several groups and artists to enliven the event with a medieval encampment, fencing and archery, dances, medieval characters, live music and craft demonstrations. The square in front of the Town Hall and the streets behind it will be filled with stalls offering a wide variety of good quality arts and crafts: ceramics, shoes, bags and belts, designer jewellery, carved and turned wood, natural soaps and cosmetics, candles and much more. Some artisans demonstrate their skills at their stall and even invite you to participate, for example by making a clay bowl on the potter's wheel. In the gastronomic corner you will find food stalls: cheeses and sausages made to traditional recipe, nuts, bread and sweets, as well as a medieval tavern, an octopus stand, a creperie and an oriental tea tent with typical Arab food. To complete the medieval atmosphere, you might come face to face with troubadours, a storyteller, a belly dancer, stilt walkers, pages and other medieval characters in any street or corner of the market. There will be demonstrations and workshops on medieval fencing and archery, and the market ends every night with a fire show. For children there will be medieval table games, pottery workshops and a medieval merry-go-round. Town councillor Cristóbal Lloréns, has once again awarded the organisation of the event to Amata (Association for the Improvement of Traditional and Contemporary Crafts), which, as its name indicates, is dedicated to the promotion of crafts. They guarantee that all what you can see in the market is handmade by the participants themselves. Over the years Amata has found a pleasant balance between original art and craft work and lively entertainment. The Market is set up in the oldest part of town, between the Town Hall and the old wash place of the village and opens on Friday 8, Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July from 6pm until midnight (or later...). There is ample parking (free) in the Auditorio de les Nits car park, 100 metres from the market, and in a large open-air car park, just behind the old town. For more information you can call 639 979 678, and the programme with photos from the last medieval market (before Covid!) is at https://www.amata.es/programalanucia.html.

The Amigos de Make A Smile Charity shop hosted its first fashion show last month in Moraira. The event attracted a full house and with so many dresses and outfits on show, there was no lacking in choice. The whole event was an outstanding success raising 2290.50€ for Make A Smile's projects for children in local care homes including work experience and courses for the older children, educational support, and many other needs. A huge thank you to the venue Ope in Moraira, all the sponsors of raffle prizes and the organisers Elizabeth and Jacomine. A special mention also to all the volunteers who modelled the clothes on the day and the dressers and raffle sellers. If you would like to volunteer for a few hours a week in the charity shop, please call Barbara on 634 307 385 or email info@makeasmile.es.
Ladies Day was held at the famous Rebate Restaurant. The day started early for the northern members who had to travel south to a meeting refreshment stop at the fabulous golf course La Finca which had been organised in the club house bar cafeteria. The next stop was at Rebate where on arrival at the restaurant a welcome drink was served from the outside bar that nestles amongst the trees and flowers of the gardens, while waiters served tasty tapas to the 70 people of our group who were relaxing on the comfortable garden furniture. We had allowed plenty of time for meet and greet conversation prior to our 4 course meal in the restaurant. When the meal was over the fun began as the Royal Ascot horse racing was put on the screen. This changed the atmosphere to that of a race course as people shouted and cheered for their favourite horse, then to finish the day we held a raffle that enabled some lucky members to win a prize, so altogether it was a full fun packed day to remember. Thanks go to the committee and helpers who worked to arrange and run this fantastic event that is always looked forward to and has become a yearly event. Also thanks go to members and guests who created a wonderful racing theme with their fascinators, hats, and attire, and not forgetting the wonderful turnout of Jaguar cars. If you own a Jaguar and would like to join the club contact Michael Brook mikebikejec@gmail.com or ring 640 866 711.

Walk Your Way Well
with Niamh O'Sheehan
Summer is well and truly here. Temperatures are rapidly rising. But, you don’t need to pack up your trainers with your woolly jumpers. Of course you can keep exercising but BE CAREFUL! Exercising in hot weather puts extra stress on your body. If you don't take care when exercising in the heat, you risk serious illness. Both the exercise itself and the air temperature can increase your core body temperature. To help cool itself, your body sends more blood to circulate through your skin. It’s working over time. This can jack up your heart rate to a dangerously high level. This is especially true in high humidity since sweat takes longer to evaporate from your skin so it's harder for heat to dissipate. So what can we do? We know it’s important to maintain an exercise regime and keep moving. We can’t simply STOP completely for the summer months! Well, the answers are obvious. Walk early in the morning or much later in the evening. Drink large quantities of water. Wear lots of suncream and a hat. And ALWAYS avoid the highest temperatures. If you are unsure about how you will handle it then please avoid risk at all costs and go for a nice cool swim instead. There are some fantastic walking fitness videos on YouTube. With offerings from 1 mile to 10,000K steps that can be completed indoors. So, put on your air con and smash out your exercise in the safety and comfort of your own lounge. If you do find you let your walking routine slip over the summer you can drop me a line and sign up for my 28 Day Challenge in September. Don’t worry too much about cutting back as the temperatures soar as we need to be sensible. But, try not to come to a full halt. I’d like to take this opportunity to wish you all a happy, healthy and sunny season and always remember to look after #1. That’s you! Keep safe and always try to Walk Your Way Well.

The Arts Society Marina Alta Programme for 2023 is now available, and will be distributed at our next presentation at Salones Canor Teulada on October 6th 2022. The programme details all our presentations for the 2023 season.
The Arts Society’s recent competition for the frontpiece to the 2023 programme was heavily contested, and we are very pleased to announce our winner. The winning entry under the title ‘Celebrating Life’s Experience’ is a celebration of flamenco, a glass mosaic in startling colours with a feeling of abandoned movement. This is a superb and forceful piece in an unusual format. The image by artist Sonja van Belkum, a local mosaic group leader, has imagination and creativity in a unique medium. Sonja is originally from Bussum in North Holland, now resident in the Marina Alta, and is an independent entrepreneur and teacher. The Chair and Committee of the Arts Society Marina commended Sonja at our recent presentation and are much appreciative that we can use such a marvellous piece on our programme cover for 2023. Why is Artificial Grass such a good environmental choice?
I have recently seen in the small gaps during Sky News presentation, sections about how and why so many people in California are having artificial grass fitted because of the drought there. So, I wanted to tie that into to some of the negative comments that our product receives, this touches on some things I have said before but it's always good to reiterate. The reason so many Californians are starting to put down artificial grass is clearly because of the drought they have been having for a long time now, but what a lot of people don’t often realise is that despite the rain we had in April we are always teetering on the edge of droughts here. Constantly the water boards and local governments are worried about the amount of fresh water we have. So, it often staggers me when people try to do artificial grass down. I often feel it’s a lack of information, so I am going to try and bust some myths. It's plastic so it must be bad for the environment? Ok it’s plastic and naturally that means it has been formed from oil, something we know is not a great thing. But for now, the most of us still drive vehicles that require oil based petro chemicals. But once it has been made into the grass, as far as I am concerned that’s where the trail of destruction ends. Our grass is manufactured locally, not in China, so as you can imagine its carbon footprint post production is minimal, it gets delivered to site and we install it. Many people instantly assume that natural grass is better for the environment and having a science degree I would firmly disagree. Natural grass will need mowing and maintaining for the rest of its life, the gardener has to get there, so unless you have a gardener that has an electric van, and electric lawn mower (and remember the power for this equipment still has to be made more often than not from coal) then your natural lawn suddenly has a carbon footprint. Your lawn may require regular chemical usage to keep it looking good, green, alive, weed and pest free. This is not good for the environment. And then most of all, the vast majority of water we have in this area is desalinated and again if you think this process is carbon neutral and good for the environment, you really need to think again. So, other than its oil extraction and being turned into plastic and its local delivery, as regards to our grass, its environmental damage is done, whereas your natural grass keeps using far more resources and polluting elements than it will ever return to this planet. Our grass is 100% recyclable at the end of its life and 100% nontoxic so it won’t leech anything into the ground either. It’s so safe it has a European child safety certificate meaning your child can suck on it and it’s safe. I obviously can’t say it’s the case for all grass, but certainly our grass product that is made in Spain, down the road, is. I have heard so many negative comments about artificial grass and they are normally dismissible when you actually know the right information and the science behind it. If anyone has any doubts about our grass products, then please feel free to contact me and I will be able to give you the correct information. So, it’s nowhere near as bad for the environment as you may be told, it looks great all year round, it’s cost affective. What’s stopping you?

The component parts. Variable speed circulation pump. The variable speed pump (V-S-P) allows the water circulation to meet the minimum 3 times volume demand at a controlled power consumption over a given time. Being able to control the flow rate allows us to take advantage of affinity law and gain low electrical consumption. Likewise, being able to tune the pump to deliver the required turnover by running all day means the residual chemicals are able to reach all areas of the pool preventing stagnation. V-S-P’s programmed to run for the majority of the day at a reduced speed means less noise and less stress on the component parts of the plant room. Filter Media. Heavy filtration media naturally offers greater resistance to flow, this means added work for the pump to circulate a given value of water.
Chemical dispensing – Intellichems. Two dispensers are installed. One delivers liquid chlorine (Disinfectant) the other sulphuric acid (pH regulation). These programmable machines allow us to calculate demand and then inject the correct value of chemical into the pool throughout the planned 18 hours of circulation made possible by the V-S-P. Chlorine disinfectant demand is controlled by using liquid chlorine which does not contain additives therefore prevents over stabilisation and results in a very soft feeling pleasant water quality. No bleaching, red eyes, blond hair gone green, tile grout stained blue/green etc etc etc. The pH dispenser allows the water to remain balanced. The natural effect of chlorine oxidation results in off gassing of CO2 resulting in pH drifting upwards, which if left unchecked will unbalance the saturation index values. Intellichems does the work, so you do not have too. Conclusion. Planned, considered strategy. • 18 hour-controlled flow circulation • Biologically designed filtration • Chemical dispensing all day at least every 2 hours. Result = • Much better quality – hygienic safe – comfortable swimming experience – aesthetically appealing. • Easy to use – low operating cost – reliable no hassle. our ARIES Misunderstanding and gossip should be addressed immediately before the rumour mill blows it out of all proportion. It doesn’t matter how it started, just make sure that the truth is made clear straight away. A lot of patience will be needed to see this month through. TAURUS Although this seems the time to get away you should not think of travelling too far. Be prepared for an eventuality and hopefully there will be no surprises. Don’t make any assumptions without finding out the facts. GEMINI In this heat you are able to keep calm whilst those around you are flapping about. Even though it seems like you are always the one to sort everything out, it’s worth it for your peace of mind. They do appreciate it, even if sometimes they don’t show it. CANCER You are feeling a bit off balance this month with highs and lows hitting you without reason. Try to keep your cool and keep your feelings in check as they will be truly tested to the limit. LEO This month will be very hectic if not properly planned. With all the hustle and bustle going on it is important that you know exactly what everyone should be doing, and when, so that everything runs smoothly. VIRGO This month will find you not knowing which way to turn. Think about the future and make decisions which are going to help you move forward in a positive and fulfilling way.
oroscope LIBRA The month will start well, but if you don’t take care things could start to get out of hand and mean that you need help to get to the end of the month without a problem. Ask for the support you need to keep things running smoothly. SCORPIO Once you realise and accept that your friends and colleagues are not trying to lecture you, you will begin to learn and become all the more wiser for their guidance. Working on these relationships will only help you. SAGITTARIUS A trip will be taking up all your focus at the moment with all the planning and preparation. As it is something you have been looking forward to for so long, don’t forget to enjoy it! CAPRICORN Enjoy the summer, but don’t over indulge it never ends well. Things are getting busier this month so don’t burn the candle at both ends. Whilst you can, put a bit beside for a rainy day. AQUARIUS Don’t get involved in the conflicts around you too many egos will always end up with problems. Breathe and keep your calm and let them sort it out amongst themselves. PISCES Flexibility will be the key this month and I don’t mean of the gymnastics type, although a bit of yoga could probably help keeping you calm. All your plans will need to be changed or tweaked, but if you adapt you can still enjoy yourself without too much stress.

Benidorm is booming, thanks to the British
The tourism capital of the Costa Blanca, Benidorm, is doing a roaring trade as the holiday season starts in earnest. When the pandemic hit two years ago, the bars and hotels were closed, some for good. Now, since the Easter holidays, many businesses have reopened as well as new venues starting up. The main foreign holidaymakers, including long-stay tourists, are the British who make up more than 41% of the international market. Thanks to their eagerness to return, 90% of hotels were open in May compared to around 50% in March. It is not just the British quarter in Rincón de Loix which is benefitting from the tourists flying into Benidorm. Businesses by Levante beach and the city centre are also reporting great trade. But the British are among the bigger spenders. They spend about €80 a day on food and drink while Spanish tourists spend almost half as much as the British - around €40-€50 a day. Many bars and restaurants are changing their habits to accommodate the higher-spending tourists from the UK. The British have lunch and dinner much earlier than the Spanish and many restaurants are serving food at times to suit these overseas visitors. Business is so good that some parts of the hospitality trade are having problems employing enough staff. Benidorm is not just receiving many tourists coming for long weekends or their annual two-week holiday. The city also has a niche market in long-stay tourists.

But special visas are being processed to allow them to stay longer, according to Karen Maling Cowles of Benidorm’s British Business Association in an article in Información newspaper. These tourists are valuable to the city’s economy because they have a better quality of life and greater purchasing power.
