Your future is created by what you do today As many are aware, the rules for staying in Spain and the EU in general, and the regulations for making Spain your home, are now far more important and thorough. It is vital that you seek good advice before committing yourself to living in Spain or the EU. My company is knowledgeable regarding Spain, be it moving here to become a permanent residence, or extended trips as tourists, with or without holiday homes in Spain. New residency/visa applications have to be processed via the Spanish Consulate in the UK. Having chosen your location and started your application for your visa, my company is there to help with Health Insurance, which is a requirement for your residency. Jennifer Cunningham Insurance can then provide all your insurance, from fully comprehensive home insurance, car, pet and life, travel and funeral, to ensure all your needs are covered to keep yourself and your loved one protected. We also work with trusted associates, such as lawyers, accountants and financial advisors, as part of our Expat Services division. Why Jennifer Cunningham Insurances? I established the company nearly 30 years ago, to provide a secure, professional service, with knowledge staff, created to provide the Expats here in Spain with the correct insurance policies with the covers they were used to, with unique Renewals and Claims departments to provide a full service and support in English for my clients. Both Liberty Seguros and ASSSA Health Insurance, in my professional opinion the best in Spain, provide special Expat policies, in your own language to make life easier for you. For those of you already settled in Spain, now is the time to check your insurance policies to ensure you have the cover you need. You can visit one of my offices, if one is nearby, or telephone and my staff can assist you, checking and explaining your polices and special points of information that are necessary to make like simpler for you, such as the legal requirement to have vehicles insured at all times, whether they are being used or not and tailoring the policies for your family’s needs. For more information or a quotation, please contact one of my offices, email info@jennifercunningham.net or visit the website www.jennifercunningham.net.

Last month was our wedding anniversary - 32 years - apparently I am the luckiest girl alive.... On the

same day darling daughter celebrates her anniversary as well so yes, I spent mine baby sitting the grandchildren whilst she was wined and dined. This month of course sees Valentine's Day, and yes you have guessed what I will be doing....

I have had to scrape ice from my windscreen a couple of mornings which is not what I came to Spain for, after 32 years I have acclimatised to the warmer weather and, like many of you, would like to lodge an official complaint. Not to worry though, soon enough it will be summer and we will be complaining that it is too hot all over again. Take care and be kind, until next time.

The N-332 are a group of Spanish Traffic Police Officers who decided to create a Facebook group to inform all ex-pats and tourists about Spanish traffic laws as they think it is unfair to fine them for breaking rules they didn't know about. You can find them on Facebook at www.facebook.com/DrivingSpain/ and follow them to keep up to date as they only share official information.

Would you like to have your driving licence on your mobile? Well, now it's possible with the "miDGT" app. The DGT (Dirección General de Tráfico) offers a free mobile app so that you can carry your driving licence as well as your vehicle documentation in digital format on your mobile device. miDGT is an official app from the Dirección General de Tráfico (Department of Transportation). With this app, Spanish residents no longer have to carry a physical driver's licence. Not only that, but users can also add their vehicle documentation to this app, so it's always readily available if an officer requests it. To use miDGT, log in with an electronic ID card or digital certificate. Entering this data helps keep the information on the app secure. Once you've logged in, you're ready to link your permits and vehicle documentation to any Android device. On top of that, users will soon be able to manage any fines they may have from the miDGT app. Along the same lines, the new DGT app for Android will allow users to check the points they have, and those they've lost since getting their driver's licence.

Reasons to download the app; Easy access; Access the app with the Cl@ve system (electronic ID or Digital Certificate) together with your fingerprint/mobile unlock pattern or by entering the personal data that we request and an SMS that we will send to your mobile. We will notify you; Don't worry! With your miDGT app, we will notify you when your drivers licence or ITV is going to expire. Other services; Request a vehicle report, pay your fines, identify the driver who was driving your vehicle, register a regular driver of your vehicle, pay the fees you need to or even change your address. Stay informed; Access current news about the DGT, traffic and road safety.

The next AFPO meeting, Association Of Foreign Property Owners, will take place at the Diamante Beach Hotel, Calpe on Tuesday 1 March, at 10am for 10:30am. Guest speaker to be arranged. Light refreshments will be served afterwards. All newcomers welcome, but you have to become a member to stay for the meeting. Members please remember to pay your quotas if you have not already done so. For more information call: 639 637 520 or email calcalpe@gmail.com.

Continuity of Advice – and adviser!

Have you been able to maintain the relationship with your UK / Spanish adviser? Are you looking for a new adviser? Many individuals arrive in Spain hoping to maintain the relationship they have with their financial adviser from their previous country of residence. Unfortunately, this is not always possible as it is becoming increasingly difficult for financial advisers to service clients who move to another country. Around the world, regulators and networks are closely monitoring the relationship advisers have with clients and particular importance is being given to where clients receive advice and by who. Clients should receive the best and most impartial advice available, but how is this possible if the adviser is unfamiliar with the legal and tax obligations of the new country of residence? We have picked up many clients over the years who find themselves in a similar situation to the above and one of the most common (and pleasing) pieces of feedback we receive is that our continuity of advice – and importantly adviser - provides them with real peace of mind. In the UK, it is not uncommon to see financial advisers stay at the same company for years, allowing individual investors to build up rapport and trust with the adviser over time. However, the same cannot always be said for Spain with many of the larger organisations having high turnovers of staff, often leaving clients without knowing who to contact. In addition to this being a costly consequence for the company itself, the secondary effect for the clients is that they frequently have to wait an avoidable amount of time to receive responses to emails and calls. It is then a guessing game as to who may turn up to see them at the next review meeting! In short, aside from the additional trust and customer confidence touched on above, business and adviser continuity can significantly reduce disruptions for clients when dealing with important financial matters. At Logic, our core business objective has always been to provide clients with an unrivalled level of service and this commitment has already reaped rewards having previously won the “Excellence in Client Service” trophy for Europe, awarded by International Adviser. One fundamental difference that sets us apart as a family-run business is that our clients get to know us as a family rather than individual advisers working for a particular company. In turn, we view our clients as “our” clients as opposed to “Ian's” or “George's”, which you commonly find in larger organisations. This, coupled with the fact we have multiple advisers qualified to UK Diploma status level 4, allows us to provide an uninterrupted service – one designed to last for generations to come.

Fifty, Flabby and Unfit. Address it the Animæ Way

Well yes, that’s me, living the good life here in Spain and piling on the pounds. For a while I’ve been wanting to do something about it, but now realise “you just can’t do it on your own”. For years I’ve discounted going to a gym knowing I’d be out of my depth. But recently, I was convinced by a friend that a personal trainer would be worth looking into. Now, my immediate thought was “but I’m not a fitness freak” but after conjouring up some courage, I spoke with the people at Animæ. I explained my situation and agreed to go along for a 90 minute assessment. This involved them getting to know me, understanding my goals and in particular discussing my various aches and pains including slight arthrosis in a knee. Of course this included standing on scales and body fat measuring devices. Remember, at this point, I’m still in the ‘finding out’ stage so am still a bit nervous. But one thing’s for sure, any embarrassment quickly disappeared. This is a place to get healthier! Anyway, next it was onto a 1:1 to assess my physical condition. Whilst there are plenty of fancy looking machines, the focus was really on co-ordination, balance, stamina, flexibility and being mindful of my arthrosis. Luciana was very understanding and sympathetic, with just the right amount of pushiness. What was really interesting was all the ways I was exercising wrong. Wrong stance, wrong bend, well wrong everything. And this is where a personal trainer really comes to the fore. She was able to correct me immediately and get far more out me than I thought possible. I came away a little tired but surprisingly refreshed and alert. After the session we discussed options and I was surprised that monthly fees were as low as 175€ per month for 1 to 1 sessions. So as of January I’m approaching 60, losing the flab and getting Fit. Animæ is located at Altea Golf Course and the gym enjoys spectacular views over the course down to the sea, with plenty of space and ventilation. I can heartily recommend getting in contact and discussing your goals. The assessment session is totally free so what are you waiting for. See advert on facing page for details.

Fitness tip of the month

Work the strength to avoid injuries Our muscles have a vital effect in our body. It is well known that their objective is to give us strength, but even more important to that, is that they are a natural protection shield for our body. For many years we have thought that just by doing cardiovascular exercises (such as walking, running, cycling, etc.) would be enough for us to be healthy. However lately doctors have given more importance to the forgotten ones, the muscles. The muscles give fundamental functions to our body: they give us strength, energy for our daily activities, give support and protection to the entire body, and give us stability and equilibrium. Each person needs specific training according to their physical condition. That is why it is recommended to get the help of a professional such as a personal trainer to guide you and make a specific plan for you. You need to take it step by step at the beginning, especially if you are not used to it and if you have been inactive for a long time. Fitness tip of the month is brought to you by Animæ Health Studio.

Have You Got Your Biker Girls Calendar? Of course, it's all in the best possible taste and designed to support local charities. Early on, MiraMirror saw the potential of supporting Lauren and Dany at the American Biker Bar and their charitable efforts and were happy to get involved with this year's calendar. The result, a cheeky yet tasteful calendar with local women who were brave enough to bare all, and local photographer clever enough to take Biker Bar props and retain the modesty of the girls. Of course, at the heart of it all is a serious cause, supporting local orphans and children who not only need help at Christmas, but all year round. There are still some calendars left at only 10€. So do your bit and get in contact with girls at MiraMirror in Moraira and get yours before they're all gone. To thank all those that have already contributed, and to bring more attention, MiraMirror and the American Bike Rental have collaborated in their King & Queen promotion, offering something for both 'him' and 'her'. For her a pamper session at MiraMirror whilst for him, a 4 hour Harley ride out. What better way to honour the charitable efforts of both organisations as they move forward together to support local worthy causes. See advert below for more information and contact details.

NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTION

Page 11

Focus On Costa Blanca Magazine February 2022

ALREADY FAILED? According to a recent survey, only 7% of people keep their resolutions, and the vast majority of people have a resolution based around improving fitness. As a fitness professional, this is no surprise to me. It takes so much more than just making a resolution to achieve any kind of fitness resolution. Of course, I completely understand why improving fitness is so desirable and am passionate about helping people get fitter. Now let's be clear, I'm not talking about everyone getting super toned and spending every available hour in the gym, I'm talking about making the improvements they want. Actually, improving fitness is about 3 things: doing the work, getting in the right mindset and learning new habits, and most of all, having someone who can work with you to guide you the whole way. All in all it's a transformation journey. As an aside, it bothers me how many people start fitness regimes which are actually damaging to their body. Transformation is about working with you so the getting and keeping fit is as natural a part of your day as showering and eating! I can work on a 1-to-1 basis, or you can join one of my online fitness groups. I provide nutrition plans and help keep you accountable to yourself, whilst going at the pace you need. If you want to really achieve that new year's resolution, start over the right way with the right support, you've got so much to gain. Call or WhatsApp Andy on 621 214 136 and start your journey, you've so much to gain. See advert below for more details.

Bunions or HAV?

he Bunion or Hallux Valgus is a deformity of the foot caused by a deviation of the first toe towards the middle axis of the foot and a deviation of the first metatarsal towards the outer edge of the foot accompanied by irregular bone growth in the first metatarsal head and articular incongruity of the metatarsophalangeal joint. This causes pain due to inflammation of the soft tissues of the area from constant friction against footwear and from the structural and mechanical alteration due to the bone deviation. When is it recommended to operate on bunions? It is recommended to operate on bunions when they are painful, when osteoarthritis appears or the structural deformity affects walking correctly which in turn affects other levels of the locomotor system. It is also advisable to perform surgery in cases in which as a result of the bunion, the toes are deforming like when the second toe appears hammer-like. When a patient wishes to undergo an operation a professional should study each case individually, taking into account the age, health status, lifestyle ... etc. At Portalet Clinic, we will explain in detail and alleviate any worries without compromise. What type of technique is carried out at Clinica Podológica Portalet? We perform minimum incision surgery. As its name suggests, it is done using minimal skin incisions, usually 2 to 4mm. Through these millimetric incisions we can reach the soft tissues and bone, without causing injury to the adjacent tissues. Advantages of Minimal Incision Surgery: - Immediate recovery as the procedure is minimal. - The patient walks away with a post-surgical shoe without crutches or help. After just 48 hours the patient can continue life as normal. - Almost painless. - No fixing bolts or needles used. One of the drawbacks of open surgery is the use of fixing materials, with Minimal Incision Surgery fixations are not necessary as the soft tissues themselves, which we have respected, the joint capsule and a light dressing are responsible for this. - Local anesthetic, only affecting the foot, so the dose used is less. - No hemostasia (restriction of blood flow). As the size of the incision is so small, there is little bleeding so there is no need for a tourniquet, thus avoiding all risks of cutting blood flow. - Less risk of infection. The small size of the incisions also decreases the risk of infection. - Barely visible scaring. Can I boost my hair growth? You are born with around 5 million hair follicles of which 100,000 are on your scalp. It is normal to lose between 50 - 100 hairs a day. Hair grows approximately (0.5 inches) 1.25 cm per month/ (6 inches) 15 cm per year. How fast it grows depends on factors like age, health, genetics and diet. Age and genetics may be beyond our control, but diet is not, consuming a diet lacking the right nutrients can lead to hair loss. Your hair grows under the skin from a root at the base of each follicle which is supplied by oxygen and nutrients from your blood. • Avoid restrictive diets, these can decrease the nutrients essential for hair growth. • Vitamin C, D, E zinc, iron, biotin, omega 3&6 play a key role in hair growth all can be sourced from a good diet. • For optimal hair growth; recommended 50g of protein a day. • Caffeine infused products has shown in some studies to boost growth. • Many essential oils have hair growth claims especially pumpkin seed oil and peppermint oil. • Scalp massage can promote relaxation and stress relief and may boost hair growth by stimulating the blood flow. Mimiskru offer Indian Head massage which is also great for mobility and flexibility of the neck and shoulders… an ideal gift! Although cutting your hair doesn’t make it grow faster, regular haircuts do help strengthen the hair cortex and prevent the hair from splitting further up the structure. External damage of the hair can lead to breakage, so the team at Mimiskru recommend the use of OLAPLEX, as before, a haircut was the only way to solve bond damage in the hair by cutting off the damaged hair. Now, with OLAPLEX, we’re able to relink those broken disulfide bonds and create a permanent change to the internal structure of the hair. OLAPLEX is a patented ingredient that is used during and after chemical treatments making the hair more durable than before.

Focus On Costa Blanca Magazine February 2022

The MimisKru team highly recommend the addition of OLAPLEX No.1 in your salon colour or lightener which is used to mitigate any damage the chemicals may cause to the hair, protecting the hair during the colouring process. OLAPLEX No.2: after the colouring service treatment, rebuilds and strengthens the hair structure. OLAPLEX No 3 : Protects the hair and maintains good healthy hair. A treatment you can purchase at Mimiskru and use at home. No 4. & 5 Are bond maintenance shampoo and conditioner. No 6. A bond smoother, leave in reparative styling creme, reduces frizz. No.7 Bonding Oil which repairs, strengthens, hydrates, increases shine, softness and colour vibrancy alongside heat protection. It is great on all hair types and textures. No. 8 Bond intense moisture mask: moisturises, smoothes & adds body and shine! Hair loss can be distressing & often requires a visit to the doctor, or a trichologist visit may be advisable if you have severe hair loss. There are many treatments available including platelet rich plasma treatments and Rogaine/Minoxidil. Before embarking on any treatments professional medical advice is recommended. A Nutritionist is an expert in the relationship between food and health, and the effects that it has on our body. They can advise on how to lose or gain weight in a healthy and structured way. With there being so many diets available, it can become confusing on what plan is best suited to your individual needs. Having an expert help you through the process is important, as they can offer support, keeping you focused with your food and exercise plan.

www.femalefocusonline.com

Food allergies and intolerances can cause many symptoms, such as sickness, bloating, diarrhoea, tiredness, skin rashes and a general feeling of unwellness. With help of a simple blood or stool test, these problems can be diagnosed, and a balanced nutrition plan to avoid these foods can put into place by your nutritionist. When suffering with chronic illnesses such as diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, ulcerative colitis, or gout there are certain foods that when ingested have a direct negative impact on your health, so a nutritionist can really help you understand what you should eat or stay away from specific to your condition. Contact your health provider who can organise an appointment with a Nutritionist to help you get your healthy living back on track.

Walk Your Way Well by Niamh O'Sheehan

Walk Your Way Well had such a special January with some unforgettable walks and fabulous connections. We meandered through the secret trails around the outskirts of Jesus Pobre while getting to know some other wonderful walkers. We covered one of the most scenic routes from Villalonga to L'Orxa along the Via Verde del Serpis. Not to be missed! We ended the month by tackling the impressive peak of El Mondúver and it was simply glorious! A great mix of easy, medium and difficult walks meant that so many people could be part of our wonderful January experience. And 2022 is shaping up to be a great year for anyone who would like to get out walking in this lovely local area of the Costa Blanca. The easiest way to stay informed about WYWW events is to join my ALERT ONLY (no annoying conversation!) WhatsApp group. WhatsApp +34 676 507 791 or Email niamh@walkyourwaywell.com for more info. L’ORCA old railway line

IN 1889, AN ENGLISH COMPANY ‘ALCOY AND GANDIA RAILWAY AND HARBOUR COMPANY LTD’ built a railway line to link the towns of Alcoy and Gandia. It was a prodigious feat of engineering necessitating the building of many tunnels, cuttings, and bridges. From then on the transport of merchandise from the hinterland to the coast was possible. Paper, textiles, oil, fruits, and vegetables were exported. Imported from England were coal and salt. The so-called ‘English train,’ running next to the fast-flowing Serpis River, soon attracted paper mills and electric power generation. However, from 1969 the line ceased to operate. RECENTLY, A SCENIC PART OF THIS LINE HAS FORMED THE SERPIS GREENWAY, sometimes known as the ‘Raco del Duc,’ running from L’Orxa to Villalonga. Here is industrial heritage by the bucketful. Along the way are many railway artifacts, some of which are attached to walls and cuttings. Next to the river are abandoned ruins of old paper and flour mills. Uniquely old ‘Light Factories’ with weirs, can be visited. ‘Light Factories’ was a name given to small hydroelectric plants along the banks of a river. Surrey, England in 1881, saw the construction of a modest and rudimentary mini-hydroelectric plant, equipped with a generator. It was a huge success. A few years later, at Raco del Duc, five mini-hydroelectric power stations were built based on this system. These plants, generated a voltage of between 11V and 20V, taking advantage of small dams where the river was redirected by canals to waterfalls. The force of the waterfall turned a turbine, which transmitted energy to a generator, transforming it into electricity. The use of energy generated by these power stations was fed to local industry along the river, in particular driving growth of a specialised paper industry (smoking paper and tissue paper widely used to wrap oranges). Always accompanied by the sound of flowing water this old, abandoned railway line is a rewarding journey explored easily on foot. From the level track there is a marked contrast between sheer cliffs surrounding the gorge, and the gentleness of the river flowing through it. Picnicking, botanising, birdwatching, or looking at large fish swimming in pools, are the order of the day. And of course, observing a wealth of industrial heritage. With 12 kilometres one way and another 12 kilometres back, absolutely no navigational skills are required. Start the walk from L'Orxa station, opposite an abandoned paper mill, following the old railway line just below a castle. History comes thick and fast. The Arts Society Marina Alta, will be holding their Annual General meeting at Salones Canor Teulada on Thursday 3 February. Doors will open at 09:30am for registration with the AGM starting at 10:15am, all members and guests are welcome to attend. High above the river the railway track passes through pine woods, until the end is reached - a dismantled bridge. Since there is no longer a way to cross the deep gorge below, it is necessary to return by the same route to L'Orxa station. THE STORY DOES NOT END HERE. One of the eight locomotives constructed in Manchester in 1890, that once traversed the Alcoy to Gandia railway from its inception, sits proudly next to the main road through Alcoy, in a square called Plaça al Azraq. Teulada-Moraira Lions were once again delighted to judge the annual Claude Kelly Memorial Handwriting Competition at St Mary Magdalene school in Benitachell. In today’s computer based world, it can still be important to be able to produce neat and tidy handwriting. Every child in each of the thirteen classes took part in the competition. The entries were then judged by a panel of Lions. This process is time consuming and requires focus but the Lions involved are rewarded by the delight on the faces of the children when the prizes are awarded. TM Lions provided prizes for the 13 winners. The winners were announced at an eagerly anticipated ceremony which also celebrated the arrival of the New Year. This is slightly different to the usual activities TM Lions get up to – supporting local charities, but it is a good opportunity to get out into the local community. If you would like to know more about what TM Lions do, visit our website on www.tmlions.com or pop into the Lions Den Charity shop a couple of doors away from Letters R Us beneath the Pepe La Sal supermarket on the Centro Comercial, Moraira, just past the fountain roundabout on Ctra Moraira-Teulada.

Local Freemasons Raise Money For Charity

Recently, Freemasons of the Oliva La Safor Lodge, no 112, met at the Black Lace Restaurant, in Pedreguer for their first social event for a very long time. The Worshipful Master greeted the members and their partners and thanked them all for attending, then all sat down to an excellent festive meal accompanied by lots of conversation, catching up on missed time and events over the past two years. There was also a grand charity raffle held, for which the attending Brethren generously donated all of the many excellent prizes to make a really successful draw, which managed to raise one 130€ which will be donated to a local charity in the near future. All agreed that it was great to be able to meet up again after so long an absence due to the Covid pandemic and hoped this would be the first of many such social events now that the pandemic seems to be easing a little. Should you be interested in joining Freemasonry, please contact me by email on prensa@glpvalencia.com

One of life’s great pleasures is making a new friend – finding someone who shares your interests, your priorities or maybe just your sense of humour. But making new friends often gets harder as we get older (even before we take Covid into account). That’s why Age in Spain has launched Friendline. Friendline is a telephone friendship service that connects people who want to rekindle the joy of chatting to a friend with volunteers willing to give a little bit of their time on a regular basis. Reaching out and volunteering for Friendline can give an older person something new to look forward to in their week and help them avoid the negative effects of loneliness and isolation. We helped one of our Friendline members celebrate their 90th birthday this month! Brian Wyrill lives in Alfaz del Pi on the Costa Blanca, and receives a weekly call from Age in Spain volunteer Sara. We decided to pay him a visit, and found a twinkly eyed Brian recounting tales from his Driving Instructor days, when he ran a large team within the British School of Motoring. He now lives a quieter life, no longer in the fast lane, but still enjoying chatting with new friends. Many happy returns Brian. If you live in Spain and are interested in joining Friendline, either as a member, or a volunteer, please find more information on this link: https://www.ageinspain.org/friendline Picture: Brian Wyrill enjoying his birthday cake and chat with Volunteer Fiona Hulme.

Artificial Grass Spain

www.femalefocusonline.com

Over the years of installing artificial grass we have seen and been called to try and rescue what can only be called terrible work. Jobs where the people who have done the work clearly had no idea about what they were doing. Some of these cases were people trying some DIY and quickly wishing they had trusted the job to the experts. As with any trade there are tricks to the trade and we have been supplying and installing artificial grass on the Costa Blanca for over 16 years making us one of the longest standing suppliers of artificial grass. We started as a landscape company and when we were first laying artificial grass there were no rules regarding laying, so we have created sensible, economic and long lasting ways to lay our grass helping make industry standards. Unfortunately, a lot of the jobs we have been asked to look at or try to repair have been laid by so called professionals, builders, handymen etc. I can tell you one key fact about artificial grass, it is not just about rolling out some grass and that’s it. As with many jobs it can be more complicated than many people assume. This unfortunately leads to jobs which to say look terrible would be a major understatement. We happened to be contacted by a lady who had seen the grass we had laid at one of our customers, she had someone else lay grass for her, and her grass didn’t look like ours. I went to her house and all I can say is it angers me how some people say they can do work when they clearly cannot. The list of mistakes was endless. Ignoring the fact that the grass wasn’t laid properly, it hadn’t even been prepped properly. It had been stuck down using silicone, it hadn’t been re levelled, there were no edges for fixing the grass to, it wasn’t cut in properly, it hadn’t been joined properly. In essence we had to start again. We had to remove all the grass and because the person had made mistakes we had to reduce the overall size to allow a little extra grass to fill in holes and repair bad joins but this was a small price to pay. Once the grass was removed, we then had to clear the space and then prep the area correctly which meant raising the artificial grass area to the same height of the terrace so rather than a ramp with a trip edge you would now be able to glide level to level from terrace to lawn. We then did our work, re laid the grass correctly we even re installed the light which had been abandoned on the grass rather than the 15 minutes work it took to re install it. Everything looked great and then the client even asked us to make another small area by the entrance to the house using some spare grass we had. We had to obviously charge the client for the work we had done, which was a significant amount, especially on top of what she had already paid. What was the most upsetting thing, but the biggest thing for me to try and promote to other prospective clients was, if we had been contacted first our price for an equivalent grass would have been 50 euros less in total than she had originally paid before we had to make it good, and our price included everything, the prep-work, the grass and the install. So, it was a costly mistake. Please don’t make the same mistake. Contact a company that not only does this job specifically, but cares about the way our product looks, we naturally want to promote artificial grass not only because it’s what we do but because of the benefits for the customer and the environment. There is nothing more upsetting than when people say they don’t want artificial grass because of the way it looks, but the chances are the grass they have seen has been laid badly or incorrectly. This isn’t a good promoter for the product this is something we aim to abolish. All Artificial Grass jobs should be laid well, look amazing, and stay looking amazing for years and years. ● For more information please give us a call on 696 283 704, or visit www.artificial-grass-spain.com

Giant Ziplines To Try In The Valencia Region

Release your inner Tarzan or Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, with an adrenaline-filled adventure ziplining in the Valencia region. Here are some of our favourite adventure parks with ziplines.

Tirolinas Go! La Nucia This is a relatively new theme park at La Nucía, just outside Benidorm, where you can enjoy treetop adventures including the longest zipline in the Alicante region at more than 200 metres long. As well as the zipline, there are more than 80 other activities including a Tarzan swing, Tibetan bridges and climbing walls. The Tirolinas Go! adventure park is recommended for anyone from six years old and who is at least 1.10 metres tall. Lo Rufete Adventure Park Further south, near Torrevieja, Lo Rufete Adventure Park has many activities from archery and horse-riding to kayaking and ziplining. You can fly through the trees on a zip wire more than 150 metres long. Lo Rufete Park has activities for all ages and interests including riding stables and horse-drawn carriages, a 10,000m2 quad circuit, paintballing, archery ground, mini golf course and pool. It is in a stunning location between San Miguel de Salinas and Torremendo with La Pedrera lake to the west and Sierra Escalona to the south. Multiaventura Elche Multiaventura Elche is similar to Lo Rufete with a great range of activities, except here you're enjoying adventures and magical experiences amid the palm trees. Activities include various multiadventure circuits for children and adults, laser tag, a triaction tower to climb, archery, boat rides and inflatables. Vital Parcentre Adventure Park Vital Parcentre has three circuits which include ziplines where you can fly through a typical Mediterranean forest. In Parcent, the centre has outdoor treetop climbing amid nature and is suitable for adults and children. Article by Sarah Farrell - www.sarahswritestuff.com

oroscope LIBRA Take notice of those around you this month. Acting alone is not the way forward, both at work and at home. Working as a team, with cooperation from all sides, will make things move forward in a much more productive and harmonic way. SCORPIO In what should be a month filled with love, you are finding it hard to feel it. Don’t let someone ruin the whole month for you and everyone around you. Talk it out with them and settle the matter once and for all. SAGITTARIUS Happiness at work will bring you much more happiness at home. Ridding yourself of the worries and pressures of the work place spilling over into your private life, will benefit everyone. CAPRICORN Focussing on those people who are there to help and support you and not those who just drain your energy, will bring so much more joy to your daily life. Surround yourself with love and remove the negativity. AQUARIUS Love is in the air this month and you are really feeling it. Showing those who are important to you just how much you appreciate them will make their day. Even just a positive comment will give someone the boost they need. Spread happiness and love. PISCES Your positive approach to everything this month will have a knock on effect to those around you. At work and home you will feel the difference your energy and eagerness brings to each situation. Everyone will benefit from it as you all work together as a team.

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE CHILDREN!

Have you heard of El Preventorio de Gandia Children’s Home? Perhaps, like the individuals and businesses recognised in this article, you may want to support the 50+ children aged 3 to 14 who are looked after in the home? Every December, Bay Radio advertises the Coin Jar Challenge. This year, with particular help from Black Flame Pedreguer, Moraira Ladies Lunch group and Montgo Verd Javea, we have raised over €550 from your loose change! Individuals such as Jan Van Veen raised money through sponsored activities; in his case €540 for running the Benidorm Half-Marathon. Throughout the year, individuals sponsor a child each and supporters work to improve the lives of these deserving children. Only through this support are the children ensured at least one birthday and Christmas present. Local businesses can also get involved, like The Fiddler Moraira who raise money to ensure the children have milk, Hamiltons Moraira whose 400€ donation enabled Monica, the House Mother to furnish the playroom with educational toys and storage. Special mention goes to The American Bike Rental and Bar in Moraira who have raised an astonishing 10,000€ plus through events and their girls theme calendar featuring brave ladies, including the owner, Lauren Thompson along with MiraMirror Hair Salon, Moraira. I will never forget the excitement of the children when a large group of bikers arrived last May with a cheque for over 5000€! So, whether you can donate loose change or arrange fund-raising events for hundreds or thousands of euros, every cent helps to improve the lives of the children at El Preventorio de Gandia. If you would like to know more about this charity, please go to itsallaboutthechildren Facebook page or website: www.itsallaboutthechildren.es. Donations can be made via Bay Charity – Xabia 0019 0132 92 4010016895 SWIFT DEUTESBB. A standing order is especially welcome!

Celebrating Vega Baja’s Queen Veg The understated but super-healthy artichoke will take centre stage at a special congress and gastronomy show in Almoradí next month. The queen vegetable of the Vega Baja region, south of Alicante, will be celebrated in the 7th National Artichoke Congress on March 5 and 6. Previous events have placed Almoradí on the map of gastronomic tourism, according to the town’s mayor María Gómez. The last time this event was held was in 2020 as it was cancelled last year because of Covid. Events include a guided tour about the history of artichokes in the Vega Baja, tapas starring artichokes, show-cooking, music, children's workshops, and exhibitions. The congress will be followed by a Gastronomic Show for five days from March 7 featuring local chefs and hoteliers producing special menus and new creations starring artichokes. Almoradí has the largest cultivated area of artichokes in Spain and so took the initiative to promote the vegetable nationally. It is now seen as a hallmark of the Vega Baja with interest growing in the production and promotion of artichokes as a quality agri-food product. The Vega Baja Artichoke Association was set up in 2011 and is made up of different companies and the municipalities of Almoradí, Benejúzar, Callosa, Catral, Cox, Dolores, Orihuela, Rafal, Rojales and San Fulgencio. Between 25,000 and 30,000 tons of artichokes are produced in the region each year. In fact, the vegetable is such an important part of the economy that Dolores has erected an artichoke sculpture on a roundabout leading into the town centre. The benefits of eating artichokes and supplements are numerous. They are packed with nutrients, can lower cholesterol, regulate blood pressure and may improve your liver. How To Prepare Your Property For A Viewing Your Costa Blanca property is on the market and wouldbe buyers want to view it. How do you make sure they stay interested in your property? And even put in an offer? Here are a few ways you can prepare your property for when potential buyers arrive. Hide the rubbish Empty the bins. You might not notice but your bin could be a bit pongy. Make sure your bins are kept clean. Empty them before viewings. Keep the full bin bags and recycling out of sight. Get baking It’s an old trick but still a good one. Nothing smells more like home than newly-baked bread or freshly-brewed coffee. This will give you a few plus points because people will associate your property with a homely feel. Take the dog out If you have pets, it is often advisable to keep them out of sight too. You know your pets are adorable but not everyone loves dogs or they may be allergic to pet hair. Plus your friendly dog could be a distraction - you want viewers to take a good look around your property and buy it, not play with your pets! Keep things neat and clean Have a last look around and make sure every room looks neat and clean. It is advisable to declutter when you put your Spanish property up for sale. People need to imagine their belongings in the home and they can’t do that if it is crammed with furniture and all your belongings. Just before a viewing, have a quick look and see if the rooms are tidy enough. Sniff the air. If it doesn’t smell too fresh, open a window or squirt some air freshener or perfume in the room - not too much, mind! Open all the curtains and blinds to let as much natural light in as possible.
