Quirónsalud introduces new technology in its labs to carry out up to 1000 PCRs daily and get results in less than 24 hours
Q
www.femalefocusonline.com
uirónsalud Hospitals in Torrevieja, Alicante and Murcia have introduced a new technique in their labs to carry out up to 1000 PCR tests daily and get results in less than 24 hours, thus becoming the best facilities for this kind of test in Alicante province and Murcia region. These hospitals have also set up a separate service to carry out these tests to ensure a fast and safe service.
This new technology features automated laboratory equipment that uses a magnetic system to extract and purify nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). To do so, nasopharyngeal exudate samples obtained from patients are incubated with magnetic spheres that have the ability to capture the DNA or RNA released by bacteria, viruses or cells. These spheres containing the nucleic acids are then attached to magnetic probes in the equipment to capture the released DNA or RNA. Finally, the nucleic acids are separated from the magnetic spheres using an elution process with water, obtaining the fully purified DNA or RNA product. As Dr. Juan José Mata, an immunology laboratory specialist at Quirónsalud Torrevieja and Alicante Hospital, explains, “This new equipment allows us greater speed and efficiency during the RNA extraction and purification procedure in samples from patients with suspected Covid-19 infection. Therefore, these advantages result in a shorter response time in obtaining PCR results. As it is an automated process, manual errors during the technique and potential cross-contamination between samples are also minimised”. This entire procedure is carried out in a Clean Room designed as per international GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) quality standards where the samples for conducting PCR tests are analysed and for the development of advanced therapy medicinal products, such as vaccines with dendritic cells. This lab has been conducting these kinds of tests for over 10 years with in-house immunologists and genetics specialists, and is one of the most renowned laboratories in the Valencian Community. s I suspected, the demand for TIE/Residencia appointments is very quickly increasing. It is vital that if you have not got your Residencia and you wish to stay in Spain after 31/12/20, you need to get your TIE sorted now, or as soon as possible.
Unfortunately, if you do not do this, the laws will be changing and you will need a vast amount of money held in your bank account and a proven monthly figure of income. I have heard a number of times, “I am British and therefore I am not panicking as there will be different rules in place for us after Brexit”. What a very silly and naive idea, because being British will mean even less than it does already after 1st January 2021, especially within the EU. We will just become normal immigrants and have the correct papers in place just to visit and live in Europe. With all this dreadful COVID situation, Brexit is also going to take its toll, both here but especially in the UK. I feel very fortunate to live in Spain because the news from the UK is worrying. So I am determined to make sure that I and all my staff are in possession of all the required paperwork within the timescale allocated, so we can continue to give exactly the same, excellent service to our clients. For your TIE/Residencia application, you will require health insurance and if you are thinking to cancelling it at the end of the first year, you would be very foolish to do so, because you may find yourself with no health cover at all and paying privately is not an option as it can be very expensive. ASSSA health insurance provides the correct certificate for your application. I do appreciate that many are not used to having private health insurance but life changes and you will require it to continue living in Spain. You will be very surprised at the premium, as in comparison to British private health prices, it is remarkably inexpensive. ● If you need any further information or an appointment to discuss your requirements, please contact one of my offices, visit the website www.jennifercunningham.net or email info@jennifercunningham.net.

Now that the football season has recommenced, my other half and son are feeling rather dizzy as their beloved Aston Villa are currently sitting at the top end of the table. Considering they were fighting against relegation last season this is actually quite an achievement. I wouldn’t normally be all that bothered but I actually put a little bet on before the season started for them to win the league and will be set to win 2,500€ if it happens ...although there is a very long way to go. With so much uncertainty still, am I determined to make an early start on my Christmas shopping and get presents sent to the family in the UK with plenty of time to spare. As far as our immediate family is concerned, I am thinking of purchasing a few new board games to keep us occupied over the coming winter months. Although our area is relatively safe and we are not currently in lock-down, it is still important to keep in touch with family and friends. There are a lot of people struggling, whether financially or otherwise, and sometimes a quick text message or chat goes a long way and can lift the spirits. Keep supporting your local businesses - stay safe and healthy. Congratulations to J. French who won last month's competition after spotting the Curry On Cooking logo. For your chance to win a selection of Curry Kits this month, see inside for full details. Congratulations to Albert Barens of La Xara, winner of last month's Pure Organic CBD competition. This month you could win one Free Bottle of 10% Full Spectrum CBD oil or one Free Bottle of 6% Pet CBD. See inside for more details. Good luck.

Venus and Mars
I

had hardly got my foot into my local bar when I was asked what that bright reddish thing was in the sky. A side effect of enjoying astronomy is that people will often point at a star and ask, “what's that one?” This time the answer was easy, it was Mars.
As I'm writing this in early October, Mars is at its closest to Earth so it shines big and bright in the sky. The reason this happens is simple enough. Earth takes 365 days to go around the Sun, Mars takes 687 days. Add to that the fact that planets don't have circular orbits, they're eccentric, or slightly egg shaped if you prefer. Put these two things together and what is happening is that Earth is always catching up with Mars, or passing it and leaving it behind. If you've ever heard NASA or the European Space Agency talk about launch windows for their rockets to the planets, that's because they pick the best time to set off, as the planets are getting near each other. If you want to see Mars in November, you'll see it very brightly in the south east around 9pm. Get your binoculars out and have a look, you'll be very lucky indeed if you see any detail, but the redness should be more pronounced and best of all, you've just seen the real Mars with your own eyes. My friend Ron in the astronomy group is getting very good indeed at taking photographs with his telescope, we call it astrophotography. It isn't just a matter of fastening on a camera and snapping away, usually there are anything from a dozen pictures to over a thousand. These are then combined together, stacking we call it, to produce a finished picture. This month’s photo of Mars is one of Ron's, and it's excellent. Looking carefully, an ice cap is visible, some topography, and the biggest volcano in the solar system, Olympus Mons. What makes this truly remarkable was brought home to me when I compared his picture, taken from his home, with a professional picture taken only a few decades ago. The professional photo was taken with the 200 inch multi million dollar telescope at Mount Palomar. Ron's picture is vastly better. We are lucky to be living at a time when ordinary technology allows us to achieve great things. All the above is only part of what ordinary people can do today, next month I'll be giving you an idea of something else we non scientists can do, finding out for ourselves what the stars are made from. Now, I'll finish with a quick mention of Venus, it's been in the news a lot recently. Some people seem to have the idea that there is life there, not so. A discovery has been made of a gas called phosphine in the Venusian atmosphere, and it shouldn't be there. There's no known chemistry that can account for the gas occurring in the conditions there. This gas is also known to be what's called a biomarker, a gas that can occur as a result of microbial life. The problem is that there is also no known way any life can exist in the acid laden clouds of Venus. Obviously the problem here is those two words, ‘no known’. Until we get a space probe to sample the atmosphere of Venus and we work out what is going on we're just guessing, but sometimes, that's half the fun in astronomy. We should have some clear skys this autumn, so get outside with your binoculars, Mars, Venus and Jupiter are all there waiting for you to see them.

Focus on risk graded investment portfolios – WITH NO TIE IN!
This month we are going to focus on the performance trend of a risk based portfolio and its gains and losses over a period of time.
see advert below for more information
The above are the actual results of a real daily traded fund which is open to daily market movements – up and down. Normally, the more adventurous the risk, the bigger the rises and falls – but not always in the long term as you can see. This has been a difficult year, however, we are at a lowish point and now is the time to get into the stock market to hopefully achieve some gains as shown in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2019. In history, previous market falls are followed by several better years, however, there are no guarantees – that's investing for you! What we can do is make sure you are in the right assets so that it minimises the chances of losses and enables you to access your money without any trouble at any time. Typically, we would contain the above investment which is held in Ireland, within a Spanish Compliant Bond for the avoidance of inheritance tax between partners/ spouses and for all the income tax and modelo 720 asset reporting to be done for you. The product allows for penalty free access at anytime – so no tie in. Call me if you are interested!

Habitation Licenses Registration Tax
C
urrently the submission (registration receipt) of having applied for a Habitation Licence (not the licence itself), is required to sign for a property sale at any Notary within Alicante. The document, also called Habitation Licence or Habitation Cedule, is achieved by submitting a dossier with the compilation of the Title Deeds, water and electricity bills, annual Townhall tax, and NIE, one or more certificates by an Architect and sometimes complete plans of the property. Requirements and the amount of Registration Tax necessary for the certificate vary greatly between the different municipalities. Here is a list of the most common Townhall registration taxes in the area: - Rojales: 50€, plus the planning department now asks for updated floor plans of the property. - Orihuela: From 102 - 111€ (depending on build size) - San Miguel de Salinas: 100€ - Daya Nueva: 50€ - Torrevieja: 17.50€
- San Isidro: 50€ - San Fulgencio: 50€ - Formentera del Segura: 60€ - Jacarilla: 30€. - Bigastro: 25€
Registration Tax is paid to the Townhall before having the licence issued. Note that Registration taxes are not applicable to IVA. Martinez de la Casa Architects offers the Habitation Licence registered document you need to sell at the Notary within 7-10 working days, services priced from 118€ (IVA included), depending on the Townhall, requirements and registration tax which is not included. Please contact us for an accurate quote. If your Solicitor is studying your case, ask them to contact us to provide your property's Occupation Licence and we will make the whole process easier, faster and cheaper for you. Martinez de la Casa Architects also offers superb discounts for groups (+2) or if you require your property's Energy Performance Certificate, Habitation Licence or Antiquity Certificate / Retrospective Licences (for pools and extensions, used to guard against sanctions in cases without licence and needed to update description in your property's title deeds) done at the same time. ● Martinez de la Casa Architects is one of the most prominent and respectable practises in the area, providing all types of Certificates and Licences, amongst other services. We are the Number 1 company in EPC Certificates (121€ inc IVA), Habitation Certificates (from 168€ +IVA and Registration in Townhall included) and Number 1 for Antiquity Certificates/Retrospective Licences for pools (190€+IVA) and extensions (270€ +IVA). Congratulations to Jolly's bar in Quesada for their huge success at their MacMillan's coffee morning which was held on Saturday 26th September! A target of â‚Ź1,000 was set by the event organisers and this was surpassed due to massive support everyone gave. The final figure raised was a huge â‚Ź1500.15! Jolly's would like to thank every single person, bar and restaurant that donated raffle prizes and vouchers and a special thank you to all the cake makers who took the time to bake for them to sell. And thank you to everyone who came to support the event on the day. The target has been raised yet again and next year they hope to raise even more! See the photos below from the day.

Why is each day important?
Not only is it something that many people no longer have, as they no longer wake up each morning, but we are in control of the way that each day affects us, and we can make changes to improve the way it all works out.
Over the years I have focussed on positive thinking, and made every effort to get the best results every day regardless of the way other people choose to behave; and it has been easy to agree that whatever our situations involve, we are in control, both in attitude and behaviour. Try the situation yourself. If you are calm, smiling and friendly, you will get a different result from day one. So many people end up paying the price for the way they handle people and situations, and then they think that everyone and everything else is to blame except them! Remember that when you are pointing one finger at something or someone, three fingers are pointing back at you! Try it and see! Some things will not go away, so we have to either accept them or clear them out of our lives, and the choices are up to us, which proves that we are in control. The more we try to sort things out, the more we can be sure that the results will be different, and happiness may not be too far away. We may feel we are physically controlled, even as adults, but as adults we can make changes, and even a bad experience can be a learning curve, and we all need those! You can ask yourself this question... Would you like to be YOUR friend? If not, why not? The answers may help you to see where things are going wrong in a personal way. When I was running my employment agency in the UK I used to tell the job seekers that I made a decision about people within 15 seconds of them walking into the office. That changed a lot of people when they went for interviews after that! Think about this.... Until the next time!

Book Review by Ivor Kindle Title: Imperium Author: Robert Harris Publisher: Hutchinson This excellent book is about the life and times of the Great Roman Thinker ..Marcus Tullius Cicero. Republican Rome and its squabbles are bought to life via the narration of Cicero's personal secretary Tiro. Incidently.. Tiro is credited with a system of note taking that is now thought of as Shorthand. The book follows Cicero as he seeks to climb the political ladder in Republican Rome whilst at the same time attending to his role as Law Maker and Advocate to the Roman court system. This is book 1 of a trilogy, the other books being book 2 Lustrum and book 3 - Dictator. Characters in this book include Pompey The Great, and a young Julius Caesar. This book is easy to follow and has the research that is a hallmark of a Robert Harris novel.
Keep reading, Ivor Kindle.

At the beginning of the year there was the ongoing struggle due to the major roadworks on the high street which affected all companies in the area, and then the pandemic struck. It has not been an easy year for anyone though Kelly and Terry are now seeing light at the end of the tunnel with the increase in customers.
With this in mind they are holding a Black Weekend on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November from 10:00 with huge savings to be had on all products throughout the store (excluding cards and wrapping paper). You will be greeted with a glass of bubbles and with every purchase made over the weekend you will be given a free raffle ticket to be drawn on Christmas Eve. They have many new items in stock for Christmas including the popular aroma lamps to suit every décor, a large selection of glitzy sparkling ornamental animals and of course a vast range of gold and silver jewellery as well as some of the nicest costume jewellery available, watches, and a whole range of gifts for all occasions. Their in-house goldsmith can repair platinum, gold and silver jewellery and can also make bespoke items such as bangles and pendants. There is a large selection of Christmas cards and greetings cards for all occasions from just 1.65€ with boxed sets of Christmas cards for just 2.50€ per box or 6€ for 3 boxes and you can then post your cards through them as they are an Easypost collection point. The Treasure Chest are constantly getting new stock and will happily order something for you if you can't find what you are looking for. ● You can follow them on Facebook at The Treasure Chest Quesada, check the website www.thetreasurechest.es, or contact them on 966 718 100. The Treasure Chest is situated on Avenida de las Naciones 10, Ciudad Quesada 03170, Rojales. Kelly and Terry look forward to welcoming you soon.

French on Saunders: It’s not a friendship you have to feed By Hannah Stephenson, PA
Page 20 Dawn French talks about her friendship with Jennifer Saunders, her first novel in five years and the trials of filming during a pandemic.
Despite lockdown, Dawn French, comedian, actress and novelist, has welcomed the chance to get together with her old mucker, Jennifer Saunders. They’ve been reunited for a podcast, are appearing in Kenneth Branagh’s movie remake of the Agatha Christie thriller Death On The Nile, due out in December, and have kept in touch during the pandemic, she reveals. “My first bit of ‘back to work’ was with Jennifer. As soon as we were allowed to meet up at a great distance from each other, with a wall of cake in-between, we met up and devised a series for Audible called French & Saunders: Titting About. “We see each other all the time anyway as friends. We’re not very good on Zoom. I’d rather be on the phone to her or we text each other a lot. “If we don’t get to see each other much, we just pick up where we left off. There’s never a guilty gap. It’s not a friendship that you have to feed on a regular basis to keep it topped up. It’s very secure.” During lockdown, French, 63, finished writing her first novel in five years, Because Of You, a story of love, identity and belonging, as two baby girls born on the millennium New Year’s Day change the paths of the women who give birth to them. One is stillborn and, in her desperate grief, the bereaved mother steals the other healthy baby from the hospital. Then unfolds the story of what happens to the two couples – and the child – as they face the consequences. French explains: “I wanted to find a story where it was a challenge to empathise with the main character. She is somebody who is honourable and upright and who we want to love, flaws and all, who does something huge and wrong. I wanted to write about someone you would still love when she makes a giant mistake. I wanted to morally wobble the centre line.” The novel explores the nature nurture debate and whether a child’s personality would naturally follow that of his or her birth parents or adoptive parents. It’s a subject she admits she’s thought about a lot – she has an adopted daughter Billie with ex-husband Sir Lenny Henry – but hasn’t come up with an answer. “It’s dollops of both and it depends on the people. The problem is that if you have somebody who is brought up by a different family than their blood relative, you could forever be saying, ‘Oh, clearly this person is the result of the nurturing in the new family’, or ‘This person is the result of the nature of the old family’. But how would you ever know?” French spent lockdown at home in Cornwall with her husband, Mark Bignell, who runs a drugs rehabilitation charity, her daughter Billie and her stepdaughter, Lily. She dedicates the book to Billie, Lils, as she calls her, and Olly, her stepson. “Lockdown was frightening. It’s frightening to have an invisible enemy out there but I’m quite resilient and resourceful and to hunker down with my family was a kind of a treat. “My two daughters came to live with me for three months and we cooked for each other and talked a lot and gave each other space and had robust debates about things.” Being a key worker, Bignell has worked throughout the period. “When we get the chance to look back, what we’ll notice is all the little acts of kindness and the moments when people pulled together and supported each other. He came back with so many stories of that nature, so although it was difficult, it was rewarding in many ways.” While 18 months of her work schedule went up in smoke and her tour was postponed, she’s missed other things too, she reflects.
www.femalefocusonline.com
Ian West/PA “I’ve missed cuddles with my mates and it proves to me how much that stuff matters. Now that restrictions are a bit more eased, I’ve got a special waxed hugging coat with plastic on the outside and a huge hood. I put gloves on and put it on back to front with the hood over my face and get my hugs that way.” She describes the government’s handling of the crisis as ‘shambolic’. “But then a pandemic throws you into a crisis,” she continues. “Nobody’s experienced at this. It’s no secret that I’m a ‘leftie’ and would have preferred Keir Starmer to be guiding us through this.” It may be no coincidence that her novel features a self-absorbed, pompous ass of an MP. “Well, we are surrounded by men like that at the moment,” she says wryly. “I didn’t base his character on a particular MP but on many people I see and listen to on TV and people I come across in my life. He’s a composite. I’m not naming names!” She recently went to London to join fellow actresses in campaigning to open theatres. “I just wanted to join forces with some remarkable women I know who are just making quiet protests about opening the theatres. I’m befuddled by it all because the discrepancies are hard to get your head around. I do not understand how you can get on a plane or go to a pub but you can’t sit in a theatre.” Despite the restrictions, French recently returned from Wales where she was filming the new Sky One Christmas family drama Roald & Beatrix, about the day when Roald Dahl, aged six, met Beatrix Potter, aged 60. French plays Potter and co-stars include Rob Brydon, Jessica Hynes, Bill Bailey and Alison Steadman. “There was a ‘gulp’ moment of, can we manage it? It was one of the first bits of filming that went back into production, you have a Covid person on your crew, you have medicals – I’ve had nine tests in four weeks. Everyone who’s not going to be wearing a mask has to be tested, everyone who is near you is tested. I’ve worked for five weeks with a crew I’ve only met from the eyes upwards. “I sanitised my hands 20 times a day, we sat in our caravans away from each other, we ate lunch on our own, our costumes were sanitised and quarantined. But every single person on that job was so grateful and happy to be back at work.” Meanwhile, the release of Kenneth Branagh’s remake of Death On The Nile, which features French and Saunders, has been put back to December. But they are not in a comedic role, she stresses. “Ken has been quite brave to cast us in this because if we’re in a big movie, normally we’re parodying it. But he knows that we can not do that. You wouldn’t tip up a giant budget film like that with two people arsing about.” Her tour may have been postponed but she’s clearly still busy. “My big work has fallen away and I’ve had to find it elsewhere and pray for things to come back. But I don’t feel any less creative. I will always write books because it’s where my heart is.” Will she work on TV with Saunders again? “If we can think of the right thing and if we want to, I would never say no to anything. It’s just finding the time and the right job and getting on with it.” Because Of You by Dawn French is published by Michael Joseph.

And the band plays on …..
At the time of lockdown, the Royal British Legion Concert Band was rehearsing for the Bill Singleton Memorial Concert. This was to be a concert with singers, choirs, dancers and of course the R.B.L. Concert Band of which Bill was a founder member. But, as we know quite literally overnight everything was cancelled. We were booked for many events including the V.E. day Celebrations and St. George’s Day. Rehearsals have just started again with strict Covid protection measures in place, including social distancing of the band. Looking to the future in these uncertain times, we hope to be performing at Remembrance Day Service in Mil Palmeras Church on Sunday 8 November and Monday 9 November in Torrevieja, all to be confirmed nearer the time. We are currently looking for more musicians in the string, woodwind and brass sections. If you would like to join us please contact Graham Robinson – email robinsongraham256@googlemail.com or telephone Graham on (0044) 772 406 4251, alternatively come along to one of our rehearsals. We rehearse in the basement of the Sophia Wellness Centre, Cabo Roig every Thursday afternoon between 4pm and 6pm – you will be made very welcome.

Note from Benny: Since early lockdown this year, amdram and singing groups both north and south of the Costa Blanca, have shown their fortitude by adapting to the pandemic in various ways. When entertainment venues and rehearsal facilities closed, some kept going through video links, others rehearsed in outside locations, and there were those who simply kept together by holding internal fun events whilst following social distancing and group regulations. This true-brit spirit is even more remarkable when you consider that the average age in most groups is in the older high-risk category. So well done all and hopefully see you back on the boards with live performances early next year. Actors Community Theatre Society: The group have held a reading of 'The Vagina Monologues' to a small invited audience, which was well received. They hope to carry on in the same style, so watch this space. They also report that founder members, Angie and Tony Goddard, have had to return to the UK permanently. ACTS send their best wishes and thank them for their tireless support. They add that they will miss their enthusiastic input. Cantabile Ladies Choir: At present time, the Choir do not know when rehearsals will commence. Further details next month when hopefully arrangements can be made. New members in all parts, are always welcome especially sopranos, the only requirement is the ability to sing in tune in this friendly, three-part female choir. Contact: valbeange@gmail.com or valcantabie@gmail.com. Phone: 966 795 816. Mobile: 648 034 232. Rehearsals usually take place in La Siesta Church, Torrevieja, Fridays 14:45 - 17:00 from September to May. Harmoniser’s Barbershop: Whatever your singing talent, a warm welcome awaits you at Harmoniser’s. They are a friendly international group and a fun-loving harmony chorus, singing in the Barbershop Style. They have just commenced Thursday rehearsals at 11:00 at Casa Contenta Rojales, near the Rojales Market. If you are interested, please contact Michael Hume at: michaelhume4814@gmail.com for more information. Lyrical Mixed Voice Choir: Lyrical are back in La Zenia church rehearsing for their Christmas concert that, subject to Covid restrictions, will hopefully be performed on 11 December. However, no final decision will be taken until next month. New singers are always welcome. An ability to hold your own tune in 4-part harmony and to read music a distinct advantage. For more up-to-date information, please contact Philip Mitchell: 865 750 465 or Trent Harris on 650 764 127. Rojales Pantomime Group: The group enjoyed a fun-filled 18-hole round of mini golf at Greenland’s Golf Club ensuring their members stay in touch until rehearsals can re-commence. There were lots of laughs, followed by a lovely lunch and a
www.femalefocusonline.com prize giving ceremony. Sadly, they also report the death of a much-loved member, Joan Waddington, who will be greatly missed. For more information on this group, email;rojalespantomime@gmail.com.
Studio 32: The Company are pleased to announce they will be performing the musical, `South Pacific´ at the Cardenal Belluga Theatre, San Fulgencio from Wednesday 17 to Saturday 20 March 2021, all going well with the COVID-19 restrictions. Rehearsals are scheduled to recommence soon. See separate feature below for full story. If you would like your group to be part of the Stage Diary please email editor@femalefocusonline.com. Deadline for copy is the 17th of the month prior to publication. Stage Diary Costa Blanca North information can be found online at www.femalefocusonline.com
OVERTURE AND BEGINNERS PLEASE Studio 32 Musical Company bounce back? By Benny Davis
Since first formed in 2013, Studio 32 have earned a reputation
for staging top class musical theatre productions which resulted in the Company raising the staggering amount of over 35,000 euros for local charitable causes. Sadly, the safety curtain was lowered on this winning run when early this year, Covid 19 occupied all seats at their local theatre in San Fulgencio. Nevertheless, in true show-biz tradition, they kept one light burning and vowed to stay together and return to the boards as soon as restrictions allowed. This month, press officer Andy Kirkwood, proudly announced the Company would soon be resuming their previously abruptly interrupted rehearsals for the blockbuster musical, South Pacific, which hopefully will be staged in March next year. If the huge success of their previous productions such as, Oklahoma!, Fiddler on the Roof, Mack and Mabel, Chicago and Anything Goes, is a yardstick for the future, this latest venture will not only be an absolute winner for both the stalwart cast members and their loyal audiences, it will also be a huge boost for the coffers of local charities such as Alzheimer's support, homeless people, their local music school and the Red Cross. Covid 19 restrictions permitting, rehearsals will be held at Casa Ventura, San Luis on Sundays only and the Company would like to welcome anyone who has a yearning to act, sing, dance, join the stage crew, or are simply bored to tears with the current negative situation and feel they need to inject a new interest in their lives alongside a happy and friendly bunch of people. Interested? Then why not take the first step and visit their website, and see for yourself: www.studiothirtytwo.org Incidentally, I was intrigued to know why the Company went under the title of `Studio 32´, so I asked Press Officer Andy. All he said was that the name originates from rehearsal rooms used by founder director, Edith Smith, when she first formed the Company many years ago back in UK. So, it seems Studio 32 have a hidden past, pre-2013, that will remain buried, unless, that is, you become a 'Sherlock' and do some digging.

Shalgam Ki Sabzi – Turnip Curry
AS SEEN ON TV
T
urnips make a delicious comforting winter warming curry, a million miles from the unpalatable boiled mush served at school dinners! This root vegetable is popular in north Indian cuisine either cooked into a curry, bhurji (mashed) or pickled. Shalgam curry is great served with hot buttered chapattis with a side of pickle and yogurt. If using baby turnips no need to peel the skin, however the larger ones need peeling. Ingredients 3 tablespoons oil 2-3 medium turnips diced 2 garlic cloves finely chopped 1 medium onion chopped 1 inch ginger chopped ½ canned chopped tomatoes
1 teaspoon cumin 1 teaspoon turmeric 1 teaspoon black pepper 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon garam masala 2 chopped chillies (optional) Chopped fresh coriander to garnish
Time: 40 -50 minutes. Serves: 4 as a side Top tip: A Curry On Cooking spice kit can be used to replace the spices. Recipe In a large saucepan heat the oil to a medium heat; once hot, add the cumin seeds, cook until they start to crack and turn a golden colour. Add the onion and garlic cook for about five minutes or until golden brown. Add the fresh ginger, along with the tinned tomatoes. Mix and cook for a couple of minutes. Next stir in the spices, turmeric, salt, garam masala, black pepper and fresh chillies. Cook for 1 minute. Add the diced turnips and mix well. Stirring occasionally; cover and cook for 15-20 minutes or until the turnips are tender. To stop
the turnips from catching on the bottom of the pan – add a couple of tablespoons of cold water. Once cooked check seasoning. Garnish with coriander and serve with naan or chapatti and plain yoghurt.
