I
am going to start this article with an observation. Unfortunately, for over a year now, I have been struggling with knee problems and I have to be very careful of pavements, steps and access to The Ladies Room, and this part has been a nightmare. How people manage when they are disabled, I just don’t know but I am very shocked at the lack of facilities in so many places. Even just a support bar in the toilets would make so much difference. Can I therefore ask owners of restaurants to check their facilities are actually easy to use, for those who need it? With the easing of the travel restrictions, I am delighted to be able to inform you that once again I can now offer travel insurance. Unfortunately, the company that we have been dealing with for many years, for some reason have been unable to become Brexit friendly and have withdrawn from the Expat market, which meant I had to find a suitable travel insurance for my clients. This was not an easy task and took some time, but we have found a very good alternative, which matches what we used to be able to offer, and I am delighted. The new policy is very similar to what we are used to and so far the service has been excellent and the prices are very competitive. All the Sales Consultants have been trained with the new policies and to obtain a quote is the easiest thing to do, with single trip and yearly policies available. I have noticed on the television, UK insurance companies advertising and in little print - those awful words - auto renewal. This is quite normal so unless you are checking your bank statements on a regular basis, you can miss your renewal premium. My company has invested in a renewal department of now very experienced ladies, who contact all my clients on renewal, to check that they understand their cover and inform them of the new premium, which is always very reasonable with Liberty. It is a service which I am very proud of, as it works extremely well. ● For more information or a quotation, please contact one of my offices, email info@jennifercunningham.net or visit the website www.jennifercunningham.net.

The whole back to school business has gone without any mishaps, although pulling on the purse strings with the cost of text books and materials. It seems to get more expensive year after year, yet it is all part and parcel of the school system here. The dark nights are starting to descend upon us and we will be enjoying the festivities of Halloween very soon. There are plenty of places having Halloween parties with lots of fun for all the family, so time to start planning your fancy dress costumes. I didn't do fancy dress last year and I felt like I really missed out on the fun, so I need to put my thinking cap on to come up with something original this year. I attended the Macmillan's coffee morning recently at Jolly's Bar in Quesada and it was great to see such a good turn out and support from the public. The full amount raised, not only on the day but all the fundraising leading up to and after the event, will be disclosed next month but it is sure that yet again the target will be smashed. Well done to all involved. Until next time... ichelle

That's down to the fund manager who will operate within the remit of the fund rules. So for example, a fund of funds in which I personally invest has a remit “to generate capital growth over the longer term (5 years +) by gaining exposure to a medium risk balanced mix of asset classes”. Quirónsalud presents the “Our Best Faces to Care for You” Campaign to Highlight the Role of Healthcare Workers in Caring for our Health • Over 400 healthcare workers from Quirónsalud medical centres in Valencia, Alicante, Torrevieja and Murcia are participating in the campaign. • The soundtrack was recorded by the Young Musicians’ Orchestra of Torrevieja. Health has many faces: those of humanity, engagement, teamwork, innovation and many more. At our Quirónsalud hospitals and medical centres in Valencia, Alicante, Torrevieja and Murcia, you can see them all when dealing with our professionals. How can we help you? So begins the campaign that Quirónsalud has started with the name “Our Best Faces to Care for You” with the goal of highlighting and showcasing Quirónsalud’s healthcare personnel after a year of pandemic, raising awareness in society about the importance of promoting the values that are considered essential in the profession, and that are part of the Quirónsalud hospital group. The campaign emphasises the loyalty of our patients and the creation of trust from the human and emotional perspectives. The medical directors at Quirónsalud hospitals in Murcia, Alicante, Torrevieja and Valencia explain that “a very important part of healthcare is the human factor, people. Therefore, at Quirónsalud we want to highlight the close, empathetic, and definitely human treatment of our professionals. They are the ones that, with their vocation, make patients feel in the best hands. Because we understand healthcare, person to person.”

How Building Inspectors Detect Undeclared or Illegal Extensions If you are purchasing a property in Spain it is essential to; A - make sure the property doesn’t have an illegal extension or pool. B - is properly described in the Title Deeds with its complete metreage registered in the Land Registry. Often a solicitor will base their conveyancing on the property’s dimensions in the “Catastro” (official body in charge of council tax/property taxes), but more often than not the Catastro isn't actually up to date. Therefore it's very important to follow these tips: - Ask the Vendors if (and when) they've had any extension or pool added. - Ask if they applied for licences and make sure these licences are correct. - Always check a pool licence as they are generally not declared and they should be. - Please note that glassed enclosures do increase the build size of a property and therefore should have a licence and appear in the Title Deeds. - Underbuilds, sheds, workshops, outside kitchens and exterior storage areas are rarely declared correctly in the Land Registry. - Be aware that covered structures attached to the boundary walls (with detached villas) are usually not licenced or declared correctly. - Check the description in Title Deeds for the dimensions and compare with the physical property measurements to make sure they match. In all those scenarios the document needed is a Certificate of Antiquity also known as a Retrospective Licence as it is used to guard against sanctions in cases of lacking a licence and needed in order to update the property’s description in Title Deeds & Land Registry. The vendor is responsible for the cost of the Antiquity Certificate/
Retrospective Licence, but please be aware that if you don’t detect any illegal/non-declared extensions or pools and you go ahead and purchase, there is no come back. It will later be at your expense to upgrade the Land Registry, even if some years on or if you decide to sell. Solicitors don't usually inspect the premises (or compare notes with the Estate Agent) and don’t have the tools such as lasers and GPS equipment to measure a property. Martinez de la Casa Architects offers a check-up service for the property you are purchasing for only 84€ (IVA included) which includes an on-site inspection survey and laser measuring if needed. We only need the property Title Deeds or Land Registry information and will give you a verbal answer within the next 72hrs of the inspection (certified information is also provided for 250€ plus IVA, although when we detect extensions it's advisable just to have a Retrospective Licence). If your Solicitor is studying your case, ask them to contact Martinez de la Casa Architects to check the property and we can guarantee a safe purchase. Martinez de la Casa Architects also offers superb discounts if you require a Structural Survey (70€ plus IVA minus discounts for multi services contracted) or Full Technical Report (450€ plus IVA minus discounts for multi services contracted) done at the same time. Martinez de la Casa Architects is one of the most prominent and respectable practises in the area, providing all types of Certificates and Licenses, amongst other services. We are the Number 1 company in EPC Certificates (121€ inc IVA), and Number 1 for Antiquity Certificates/Retrospective Licences for pools (190€ +IVA) and extensions (270€ +IVA). ● For all enquiries or to arrange an appointment please call 665 810 411 or visit www.martinezdelacasa.com to see an impressive list of over 150 testimonials.

Book Review by Ivor Kindle Title: Mythos ..The Greek Myths Retold Author: Stephen Fry Publisher: Michael Joseph This is a wonderful read. It is oh so very Stephen Fry. Some known, and some not so well known Greek Myths are retold in a witty, funny and very clever Stephen Fry way. As you read the book you get the feeling that Fry himself is reading the book to you. It's his voice, it's in your head and you are haunted by its dulcet tones. If you want an entertaining read ...this is the book for you.
Keep reading, Ivor Kindle.

A View From The Top
W
Although a very important subject and in most cases a matter of life or death, organ donation is seen by many as a "taboo" subject. I recently listened to a discussion in respect of whether people should donate or not. Well, the situation as it stands for people who reside in England is as follows bearing in mind that Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland rules may differ. In England the deemed consent bill, in respect of people being deemed to have opted into an organ donation scheme, passed Royal assent on 15 March 2019. This scheme came into effect for real on 20 May 2020. From this date adults in England are now deemed to have agreed to be an organ donor when they die unless they have opted out by recording a decision not to donate. In this scheme it must be noted that an adult is a person of 18 years or more. Organ donation can be seen as a very personal thing, indeed it is exactly that, a very personal thing. All manner of things may make a person unsure about organ donation including religious beliefs. On another tack people who are alive in general do not like to think about death and organ donation, why would they? My thoughts are that thinking about the difference we could make to several people’s lives after we pass on via organ donation could help to soften the uncomfortable feelings that contemplating death must bring. Difficult yes, but not an insurmountable emotion given that careful consideration or perhaps even some research, internet etc, could help to calm unnecessary fears. As an adjunct to this discussion, during my research it became apparent that our host country, and in many cases our home country, Spain are World leaders (if that is the correct term) as far as organ donation goes. It may be individuals who are non Spanish fit into, or in fact do not fit into how Spain manages its organ donation scheme.

Tickets cost from 45€ for the White Stand up to 185€ for boxes at the foot of the track, just above the pits. Circuit Ricardo Tormo has hosted the Comunitat Valenciana Grand Prix every year since the venue was constructed in 1999. It has now become the traditional end-of-season finale of the premier motorbike racing league in the world with huge crowds creating a fantastic atmosphere. The stands have been designed so fans can view the entire circuit as the annual MotoGP reaches its crescendo. FERROL - faros with a big surprise
T
HE ROAD FROM FERROL TO THE FARO DE CABO PRIOR IS WINDING AND NARROW. It undulates with woods, bent trees and uncultivated fields alongside. The lighthouse (faro) soon appears on the horizon set on barren, windy terrain. Near the car park a large blue sign states this is Faro 03220, located at certain latitude and longitude with an elevation of 107 meters. A few metres on, the road leads to a large building with the lighthouse behind.
Although guarding ‘The Coast of Death’ with its flashing light, there is nothing much to see here except the wild Atlantic ocean, white crested waves and the occasional sailboat passing by. Returning to the car park something on the left side catches the eye. Strange buildings not on any map or signpost. Low-lying concrete buildings difficult to spot. What can this be? Only a few kilometres north, Faro Punta Frouxeria is reached on yet another headland. Same barren, windy landscape. Same large blue sign. This is Faro 0321, a huge seven storey concrete structure with blue painted edges at an elevation of 75 metres. Over to the right there is a depression in the ground. What is this? In fact, the depression leads to a long dark tunnel with many large rooms off to each side. The tunnel branches to concrete platforms cut in a vertical cliff face, facing the Atlantic and the Bay of Biscay. Deliberately hidden from the view of a casual visitor, this is a big surprise. Both these Faros and their concrete installations date back to the Second World War. They are Nazi gun emplacements, not for defence as in Normandy, but to attack Allied shipping coming from the Mediterranean Sea into the Bay of Biscay. As Spain was meant to be neutral in WW2 they should not be there! And that’s the reason why they are hidden from view, rubbed out of the history books, and deliberately forgotten by the Spanish government. Make no mistake these are big gun emplacements. Bigger than Normandy. Cabo de Prior gun emplacements sit on both sides of
the road, high up on a hill and low down by the sea. The first thing to be found are concrete sentry boxes. Next, large accommodation buildings appear, thin rusty metal frames holding crumbling brick walls. Another block consisting of canteen, communal rooms and game rooms can be identified. The main gun emplacements, about 10 in total, protrude against the blue skyline. One group of four are together on one level, the others scattered around. With vegetation disguising the outline, getting close is the only way of discovering a bunker. Fixed to the concrete are metal gun turntables. Graffiti is everywhere, a surreal decoration. There are many other such installations along the coast of Asturias and Galicia, deliberately hidden and difficult to find. An adventurer should aim for a lighthouse, on the NW tip of Spain, on a windy promontory, hidden in undulations or sand dunes. Don’t bother with the tourist office. Faro de Cabo Prior, Galicia. COSTA BLANCA SOUTH
Note from Benny: Time has come for most groups to get back into the swing of things. Mostly positive messages, except for ‘Cantabile Ladies Choir’ and ‘Campoverde Theatre Group’. We wish them both well for the future. Also, I would like to welcome the return of our old favourites, `Barber Shop Singers´ in Benissa. Smiles all round, including those cash starved charities who have also suffered from the lack of entertainment programmes revenue. Actors Community Theatre Society: Finally, `Ladies Day´ is booked at The Cardinal Belluga Teatro in San Fulgencio. The production will be staged on Thursday 28, Friday 29 and Saturday 30 October. Tickets are available at 10€ at outlets in La Marina, Ciudad Quesada, Benimar, Benijofar and Villa Martin, details on their Facebook page ACTS Actors Community Theatre. Alternatively phone, WhatsApp or text 602 683 925 or email actstheatre@icloud.com to book your tickets. Campoverde Theatre Group: The Group have made the hard, and sad decision to disband. The Community Centre where they rehearse has been closed due to safety reasons and costume storage costs were unfortunately too expensive to keep up whilst they were not able to perform. They would like to take this opportunity to thank all those involved with the group over the years. Cantabile Ladies Choir: IMPORTANT NOTICE: As a result of the effects of COVID 19 and Brexit, it has been decided to put Cantabile rehearsals on hold until September 2022. Naturally, they are very disappointed but feel it is sensible to start afresh next year when hopefully things will have settled down. All being well, by June or July, they will be in a better position to make arrangements. Contact valbeange@gmail.com.

Lee Sharpe Joins Pure Organic CBD
QFocus Magazine October 2021
I
t's been over a year since we ran an article about Pure Organic CBD. The Female Focus team was in Jávea and thought it would be a good idea to do an update and see what’s been happening within their company. Over the past year, Robby who handles the day to day operation of the company, informed us that they’ve had a really exciting time, increased sales significantly and gained thousands of happy customers across Europe. He attributes this success to their high quality 100% organic products all being produced on the same family farm in Switzerland under Bio-Suisse Certification. They have also impressively gained a 4.8 star rated excellent ranking on Trustpilot. Pure Organic CBD is happy to announce the addition of Ex-Manchester United Star Lee Sharpe to the team as a director. Lee, who has always been interested in alternative medicine, started off as a customer, but believes in the company so much he joined. Lee will be working to develop Pure Organic Golf, a CBD brand focused on the golf market where major stars like Bubba Watson and Tiger Woods are using products. The team at Pure Organic has also launched a horse CBD product after the success of their pets range and working with APAC, a horse charity in Denia nursing a horse back to health. The company claims convincing people to overcome the stigma of cannabis products is a major hurdle in the industry. To help, they offer a 30 day money back guarantee on every sale. The company says that not a single customer has returned a product. They are offering an exclusive discount to all Female Focus and QFocus readers, 15% off your order of up to 3 bottles of CBD. All you have to do is scan the qr code in this article and select your products on their website. The Discount will automatically be applied so use it today!

The Aircrew Association Costa Blanca commemorates the 81st anniversary of The Battle Of Britain
T
he Aircrew Association Costa Blanca held a Commemorative lunch at La Cumbre restaurant on Wednesday 15 September. It was exactly 81 years ago to the day that the tide of the Battle of Britain turned in the favour of the allies and members and guests were able to acknowledge that momentous day in their customary manner. The 80th Anniversary in 2020 had to be cancelled due to the Covid restrictions. After refreshments on arrival on the terrace of La Cumbre and a welcoming address by the Association’s Chairman, Max Maxwell, the Honorary Chaplain to the Association, Father Marcus Ronchetti, said a highly appropriate grace in which he referred to and recognised the heroism and courage shown by The Few! A raffle later during the lunch was followed by the successful auction of two rare prints provided by the Association’s President, Tom Brown: ‘The Dambusters’ by Frank Wooten including a Certificate of Authentication, signed by the artist and six survivors and ‘Men and Machines’ by Gordon Davies featuring, appropriately for the occasion, a Hawker Hurricane and a Spitfire. Again, this print was signed by the artist and Flight Lieutenant Roger Hall DFC, the Spitfire pilot. Before the auction, Alan Threadgould AFC QVCSA recounted an amusing tale of his meeting with Frank Wooten many years ago whilst Alan was serving in the RAF. The two successful bidders, Hugh Parker for the Men and Machines and Eric Davies for The Dambusters were both extremely grateful to have acquired two high quality prints! Following the auction, Father Marcus gave the Aircrew Exhortation, Clive Rothwell proposed the toast to King Filipe and the Association’s Life Vice President, Peter Langley DFC proposed the toast to The Queen. The keynote speech was then given by one of the two serving members of the Association, Sqn Ldr David Tucker. David’s subject was: ‘The Battle of Britain – The Dowding System and its Integration with the Aircraft of Fighter Command to win The Battle’. Following David’s excellent and fascinating talk and the toast To Those Who gave So Much, proposed by David, Max Maxwell gave his closing remarks before the occasion was brought to its conclusion by the Aircrew Toast, To Absent Friends and Fellow Aircrew, proposed by the Association’s President, Tom Brown. It was a memorable occasion and members were delighted to be able to Commemorate The Battle again! The photographs show the Association Members prior to the lunch, Father Marcus giving the Aircrew Exhortation and Sqn Ldr David Tucker giving his keynote speech. If any reader would like more information about the Aircrew Association please call 966 495 042.

Apple and Ginger Chutney
Ingredients 600g Granny Smith apples peeled, cored cut into chunks 2 onions finely chopped 150 ml cider vinegar 100g muscovodo sugar 50g granulated sugar 30g fresh ginger grated 2 tbspn lime juice 1 tbspn oil 1 tspn cumin seeds 1 tspn mustard seeds 1 tspn ajwain/carom seeds (optional) 1 tspn fenugreek seeds (optional) 1 tspn chilli flakes 1 tspn black pepper & 1⁄2 tspn salt Time: Prep 15 mins. Cook 45-50 mins.
T
here’s nothing like lip- puckering chutney to complete a meal or snack. Chutney and pickles are an integral part of Indian meals, served with everything from yogurt, rice, flatbreads to curry dishes. Chutney originates from India, from the word chatni to lick! This aromatic chutney laced with Indian spices is so versatile; serve with curry, hot or cold meats, as a dip, it’s great teamed up with cheese. For an extra bite add extra chillies and ginger. The spices really lift this chutney, but if you don’t have all of them don’t worry. The natural molasses in muscovado sugar give the chutney a rich brown hue and the toffee-like taste but brown or granulated sugar can be used instead of muscovado. Recipe In large pan heat the oil on a medium heat. Add the cumin and mustard seeds; wait until they crackle before adding the ajwain/carom and fenugreek seeds. Tip the onions into the pan, cook for 5 minutes or until the onions change colour and begin to soften. Add the apples, all of the remaining spices, ginger, the lime juice, cider vinegar and the sugar; over a low heat stir until the sugar dissolves. Simmer for 40-45 minutes stirring frequently until the apples are soft and tender. Turn off heat. Once cool ladle the chutney into a sterilised jar and seal. Store in a cool dark place for a couple of days, once opened refrigerate and use within 2 months.

15 Things Kids Want from Their Parents As parents, there are 15 main things that young children will want from you as much as possible. If you can do your best to provide these things to the best of your ability, your child's future will be brighter than ever. Here are the top 15 things kids want from their parents:
1. A Good Goodnight. Going to bed is so much better when parents spend some quality time with their children. Take time out of your day to tuck them in, sing them a song, or read them a bedtime story. If you don't have any books, you might consider making up a story yourself, or telling them about your childhood. Children are very receptive to parents who use their imaginations, too! 2. Affection. Showing affection is one of the essential experiences that children have while growing up. Parents should always remember to give lots of praise, cuddles, and love, even after a long day. Even a friendly conversation one-on-one can be a tremendous help to a child who wants to be heard. Share some time asking your child about their day and what they enjoyed most. 3. Private Time. Having a good connection with your children means giving them your full and undivided attention as much as you can. Children will benefit from feeling like their time is valued, especially if it's planned out and isn't rushed. With more than one child, it's essential to provide each one with their time with you. It's hard to connect when things are busy and loud, so let them choose a place and activity that you can enjoy together. 4. Positive Food Advocates. Lots of children are picky, but that's no reason to throw in the towel and serve up pizza every night. Children need to learn that healthy foods can also be delicious and satisfying, and that starts at home in the kitchen. Work together on meals, or even help them to grow some vegetables in the garden. Children should learn early that dessert is not the only delicious meal, so that they're set up for success in the long-run. 5. Plans to Look Forward To. Give them fun things to look forward to with you. You might plan fun events on the weekend, or surprise them with weekday activities if they've been wellbehaved. Showing your children that you're excited about quality time will make them feel good about themselves and their relationship with you. 6. Conversations Before Bedtime. Bedtime means winding down, but this is also a great time to take advantage of beneficial conversations. Set aside time before they go to sleep to talk about their day, their friends, or anything else they can think of. Allow them to lead the conversation; kids like to feel heard. 7. Time to Play Outside. Studies have shown just how beneficial and vital outdoor play can be for children. Not only children, either; people at every age benefit from being outside! Encourage kids to stay off screens and televisions and to explore the world outside instead. Allow them to spend as much time as they want outdoors, either playing games, going for walks, or socializing with neighbourhood children. 8. Time to Watch Their Favourite Show. The only thing better than getting to watch their favourite show is watching is with a loved one! Grab a blanket and settle in for a good cuddle while your child enjoys their most preferred shows. You can let this be a quiet time, or you might ask them questions to engage them. 9. Discipline When Necessary. Children need guidance when it comes to learning about appropriate behaviours and responses. Showing discipline might not be a parent's favourite thing to do, but it does teach a child that they are invested in them and want the best for them. Even though they might not show it, children do find value in being disciplined.
10. Leave Special Messages. Surprises are always pleasant, even if it's a little note or present 'just because.' Consider putting notes in your child's lunch bag or backpack, especially if they're having a bit of a rough day. Having that little jolt of happiness is always lovely when its unexpected. 11. To Be Silly. Sometimes children are looking for approval to be silly, but the best way to give them permission is for parents to be silly themselves! Playing dress-up with your kids and acting out stories will help them to come out of their shell and work on their imagination. Kids can be wildly creative when they don't feel like they have to hold back or act a certain way. 12. To Be Less Stressed. Surprisingly, children are very observant and receptive. They will often notice when their parents are stressed or upset, and it takes a toll on them as well. Many children want to see their parents happy and relaxed, which in turn makes them feel more positive as well. Regardless of what's bothering you, try to keep things simple. 13. Play Dates. Adult time is fun, but it can also be beneficial for everyone to have play dates with other parents, too! Children can socialise together, or they can hang out with the adults and become comfortable with your friends. 14. Guidance. Children don't have all the answers; in fact, adults rarely have all of them either! Children will look to their parents for guidance, though, in all kinds of situations. They might look to you when they meet a stranger, face a new experience, or are unsure how to express their feelings. If you've established a level of trust in your relationship, your child will feel safe enough to be set in the right direction by you. 15. Approval. Parents sometimes don't realise it, but their children are always looking to them for approval for all kinds of things. More than anything, they want to make their parents proud! Keep an eye out for opportunities to champion them, even if it's the smallest achievement. Doing so can boost their self-confidence and their willingness to try new things. Essential Things to Keep in Mind Parenting is tough and covering all of these things every day isn't always possible. However, keep these 15 things kids want from their parents in mind and practice them as often as you can. They will help you to build a strong relationship with your children and encourage them to flourish into successful, young adults.
