Claim Settlements n listening to Bay Radio last week, when a guest speaker was in full flood about the effect of the virus on the world’s economy, insurance claims were mentioned as being extraordinarily high. I was extremely cross when the speaker declared “you know what insurance companies are like when they have to pay out on claims, they try their hardest to refuse the claim.

The remark was obviously based upon pure ignorance, as the amount of settled claims my company processes can be quite astounding. Liberty Seguros have the reputation of being one of the best regarding their claims and of course, due to the excellent policies, much more is covered to make a claim on. Additionally I have a dedicated Claims Administrator, who will help you through the whole process and is prepared to go the extra mile for my clients. However, there are a number of reasons why a claim could be declined. The first one being fraud. Some claims are turned down due to poor or lack of maintenance. Some people are convinced insurance gives them a life-long guarantee. Then of course, some clients are under insured, and they think they are covered but they have decided to keep the insurance costs down and not taken the cover they require, for example, accidental damage. Then there are the consortium claims, which recently have cost millions. Having an experienced administrator assisting on clients claims is especially helpful in a foreign country, where of course, many rules are different. The assessors are very experienced, knowledgeable and totally independent, and are always very thorough with their reports and I know that they have a tremendous respect for Liberty Seguros, which is a professional, bona fide insurance company. So no, the comment made does not apply to my company or the companies I work alongside with. If you require help or information regarding a claim, please contact my Claims Administration and if you wish to ensure you have the correct cover for your particular requirements, contact one of my consultants on 966 461 690 or www.jennifercunningham.net.

YOU Can Help To Map Mars

QF Focus Magazine June 2020

R

egular readers will have been exploring the night sky, probably with your binoculars, if you are hoping for another instalment in that series, I apologise, I'm giving it a break for a couple of months. The reason is simple, it's nearly midsummer, and the night sky is not very dark or clear until very late, it's a poor time for observing. I will be resuming the series in the autumn, and the major planets will be visible in the night sky again, a treat for the eyes. As I'm writing this, it's mid May, and it would be irresponsible to plan an observing night, but hopefully by the autumn we will be nearer to normal and we'll be able to plan a public viewing night so you can come and look at Jupiter and Saturn through the telescopes of the groups members. OK, so what's all this about mapping Mars? Not all amateur astronomy is about looking at the sky, a lot is done with a simple home computer, and you can use yours to help the professionals with their work. There are several spacecraft orbiting the planet Mars, they take thousands of high resolution pictures, these have to be analysed and interpreted, that's a job that computers are not very good at, but a human being finds simple. What this boils down to is looking at pictures on your screen and marking out the shapes of features and shadows on the screen. It could be anything from sand dunes, ripples on the surface, shadows in the valleys, even the shapes that aren't understood yet. The website has all the details of what to do, and it's very simple, a child could do it, actually, quite a lot of children do. Does all this matter? Is it important? It certainly is, detailed maps are essential to understanding the planet, and what is going on there. It's also a sad fact that the British Mars lander, Beagle might not have been lost on landing if there had been more details known about where it bounced down. All the work done by us ordinary people will add to a store of knowledge that will last for ever. What would you like to tell someone, that you spent some time during the great lockdown watching some boring tripe on TV, or that you were one of the people who mapped the surface of another planet? Just to whet your appetite a bit, one of the more unusual things on Mars, are geysers of carbon dioxide, these erupt seasonally leaving strange short lived markings on the surface rather like spider webs. Hmm, spiders on Mars, where have I heard that before. To do all this just go to a web site called 'planet four zooniverse' use the word four, not the number. Read the introduction and enjoy yourself. https://www.zooniverse.org/projects/mschwamb/planet-four That's all for this month, stay safe. nomy Group

As we are moving through the different phases towards the “new normal whatever that will be, it is encouraging to see the many local businesses reopening their doors to the public. It has been an interesting month being out and about and getting the many different views of the current situation. One thing is certain in all of this...these local businesses need all of our help and support, please don't forget them. On that note I would like to thank all of our advertisers for their continued support in our publications. The children's school holidays always seem like an eternal time off in the summer, but by the time they return to school they will have been off for 6 months. Although there has been a lot of online teaching so the boredom hasn't had chance to appear as yet, it will still be a different summer than they are used to with some restrictions to the beaches and pools still in place. The next Focus on Professional Services will be out soon with a new format, new size and new look...don't miss out on including your business in this next issue, call me to book your space. Congratulations to Daniel Lewis from Quesada who won last month's combined competition after spotting the Curry On Cooking logo on page 42. This month if you find the Curry On Cooking logo (not on their advert page, or this page) you are in with a chance of winning a selection of curry kits which will be posted out to your house. Simply email editor@femalefocusonline.com with your name, address, phone number and the page you found the logo on. See inside for full competition details. Good luck. lle

Why it is essential all Energy Performance Certificates must be registered to market a property All Energy Performance Certificates must be registered to be legally valid in Spain. The registration process is carried out at the Regional Governments after paying a registration tax. This way the government can check that a property has had an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) issued, therefore rather than a knock on anyone's door requiring the document, they just search for any advertised property within their records of registered certificates. The reference used to identify a property is called the cadastral reference and is the same used in the property council tax (SUMA). In Valencia, the Decree 112/2009 regulates the registration process, and it is the owner of the property who is responsible for having the certificate registered. Martinez de la Casa undertakes the owner's responsibility to have the certificate registered and they complete the registration process within 72 hours sending the certificate. Everything is included within their fees of 121€, including IVA and the registration tax. If your solicitor or agents are studying your case, ask them to contact Martinez de la Casa Architects to provide them your registered Energy Performance Certificate and we will make the whole process easier, faster and cheaper with our fixed published prices and guaranteed deadlines. The cost of an Energy Performance Certificate is 121€ IVA included and discounts are available if you also require Retrospective Licences for your pool (205€ IVA inc.) or/and extensions (302€ IVA inc) or Habitation Licence (from 118€ IVA included, Registration Tax not included) or any other of our services, done at the same time. If you want to have YOUR Energy Performance Certificate for your property Martinez de la Casa Architects will arrange an appointment and guarantee the delivery of the EPC within 48 working hours after our survey. For all enquiries, or to arrange an appointment if you want to have your pool or extension certificate now and protect yourself against future law changes that may affect you, please call 665 810 411 or visit www.martinezdelacasa.com to see an impressive list of nearly 200 client's testimonials. “Antonio, from start to finish it was utter professionalism. You kept in touch and submitted the finished product at the time you stated. A good deal of Spanish firms could take a lesson from your customer service approach”. Roger Bates.

Three useful tips on driving safely in Spain Driving in Spain is straight forward and this month Sun Lawyers want to pass on some useful tips on driving in Spain. Hopefully the advice will help stop you getting a fine as well as avoid any accidents! Use a valid driving licence The basic law is that EU driving licences do not require an international permit, whilst non-EU licence holders need one. In other words, if you come on holiday from an EU country, you can drive in Spain using your home country's driving licence (if it has not expired). For non-EU countries, you get an international permit back home, and then in Spain, you must have your home country's licence along with the international driving licence. If you become a Spanish resident, then you will have to swap your home EU country licence for a Spanish licence if you: • Drive using a European Union driving licence. • If you got your Spanish residency on or before Jan 19th, 2013. • If you obtained Spanish residency after Jan 19th, 2013 you have up to two years from the day you became a resident. Also, if you have any or even all four of the following: • A driving licence which never expires. • A driving licence with a validity of 15 years or more on date of issue for Group 1 (AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE). • A driving licence with a validity of 5 years or more on date of issue for Group 2 (BTP, C1, C1E, C, CE D1, D1E, D, DE). • A driving licence which has already expired or is close to its expiry date. Driving while talking on the phone You can’t drive and talk or text on the phone! The law is strict, even headphones and the small blue tooth system earplugs are banned.

Official figures prove that distracted motorists stand a greater chance of getting into an accident. If you're caught using a phone, then a 200€ fine will be heading your way, and you will have to pay on the spot if you don’t have a Spanish driving licence. If you have a Spanish driving licence, you get will also get a threepoint deduction into the bargain! Not driving on the right side If you are from the UK, you hopefully know you have to drive on the right side of the road and overtake getting into the left lane. But a big cause of accidents is how driving approach a roundabout and which lane there are in. Follow the logic of keeping on the outer lane and taking whichever exit towards your destination from that outer lane. If you are approaching the roundabout in the left lane, then get into the right one as soon as you can to exit. If you are driving on the left lane and try to cut the right lane to exit and get hit by a car, it will be your fault. The outer lane is the one to exit, not the inner one, but many motorists just can't seem or don't want to grasp this simple concept. There are no nationalities on the road Remember, it really does not matter where you are from, as you just must take care when you are driving in Spain. A car accident is a car accident, and nationality is irrelevant.

A View From The Top

elcome to my monthly column “A view from the top”. Hopefully you will find my rambling readable (maybe even enjoyable). You may agree or you may disagree with my views, I care not. These are my views long held and forged over a life time of work, travel and experience. Now that’s over let’s have a look at what is really winding me up.

The View from The View from the top Household.

&

Well Dear Reader...as you can tell from this piece I am still around and to be honest can not give enough praise to the Government and people of my adopted homeland for their efforts and compassion during this time of National sadness and struggle for so many. Now I know that none of us are perfect and all of us make mistakes and of course to err is to be human. My experiences over the past what is it - ten weeks or so - have been many and varied. Firstly I have been amazed just how well myself and Er Indoors have got on together ...apart from the noise the bloody hoover makes just when I am trying to watch something on the television, Oh and why does Er Indoors always seem to be in the kitchen when I am trying to use the available work top space?...And Oh, why is it that I cannot seem to hang the washing up using the correct peg as well as not hanging the washing up in the correct alignment...

www.femalefocusonline.com hang with the bottom of the clothes at the top etc.... With these minor transgressions in mind all in all we have done very well to hopefully see out the worst of the terrible times that have befallen us and our friends and neighbours. In truth Er indoors has been a saint, to not only myself but as is her wont, she has taken on a lot of responsibility in respect of helping with her circle of people who she helps and assists within a group of third age people. Common sense has prevailed as she has been granted a permit to visit and check up on some of her friends who could require some extra help and assistance... living on one's own must be difficult during such times. For my part during the lockdown I myself have found that I can survive without beer but, as my taste for beer has somewhat diminished, my taste for gin has been rediscovered. Tiffin time has made a comeback in the "View" household with pink gin with frozen red berries high on my tipple list. Please Dear Reader, do not think Mr View is on a downward slope... No, as I type all the letters are slipping nicely from the keyboard to the screen and my thirst at the moment is directed toward having a nice cup of Rosie Lee ...in the knowledge that Tiffin time is just a few hours away. I have also taken the time to contemplate many things ...I have been re-reading the general principles regarding Darwin and his ideas about evolution and have even taken some time to read some info on the discovery of Deoxyribonucleic Acid ...DNA to you and me ...I can also tell you that on average that "the human heart" at rest pumps on average 343 litres of blood an hour ...that is 8,000 litres a day ..3 million litres in a year ...all interesting to my good self after my heart problems of a few years ago.

......continued from previous page One strange thing did happen to me as we came to the stage where the lock down was being eased ...Phase 0 became Phase 1 and after several weeks of being restricted in my movements outside the house. ..shopping and fuel etc ...the realisation hit me that although I could go out I did not really want to go out. Why? Well I think that I felt safe in the "View mansion" ...why would I want to go out into a World where things were so uncertain? You Dear Reader will be pleased or maybe not to know that I have ventured out fully masked once more into the World ...I have even had a couple of pints of foaming ale and have once again felt the warmth of human companionship. I wish you all well ...both you and your families no matter where you hail from. It's good to know that if you are fit and healthy and reading this then we can all move forward together. Just a last thought ...what on earth did we all do before WhatsApp and Skype?

HOW OLD ARE YOU?

Does it matter? I always thought it did, but just lately I am seeing that differently. Someone I was talking to the other day said that age didn’t matter.... it was just a number! What? When someone ever says anything to me that I haven’t considered before it gives me food for thought, and I have to admit that I have ended up agreeing with that comment .....age IS just a number, so why would we allow it to dictate to us and get us where we would rather not be? All this just refers to adults, but it should help us to see things differently and with a more positive attitude on a daily basis. So you might be 60-70 years old, but why should that control how we feel since being 30-40? Aches and pains are not something we can accept at any age, and I know young and old people who are constantly suffering. We may not look the same as we did when we were younger, but why does that affect our mental attitude in life as we go on and on. Do we feel grateful for being able to wake up each day when so many people don’t ....regardless of their age? Many of us don’t realise what kind of control we have over the quality of our lives ....masses of people in the third world have much less than we do in the West, but they can be happy due to how they think and behave ......and they cannot change their lives, only how they think about things. We are in control of the decisions that we make each day, and how we should appreciate that! If physical circumstances change, our mental way of thinking and handling things doesn’t have to ...can we accept the truth in that? Sadness and suffering is all part of imperfection, and that is what we are, imperfect, so it is not related to how old we are is it? So age is just a number? Worth thinking about! Stay strong and take care,

Violet King

y h W exercise?

QF Focus Magazine June 2020

Exercise has been called the closest thing to a miracle drug. It can be beneficial for everyone, the young and the old, the healthy and the ill. It helps us gain muscle, lose weight and be healthier. We always hear that we should exercise more, and while that's true, these messages nearly always omit mentioning that there are quite a few different types of exercise out there. The question is "which one is for you?"

It is a very important question because all of us have different wants, needs and goals. It can also get very tricky: a lot of the time genetics play a big role, and unfortunately, some people are unresponsive to exercise. Luckily, they are a very small minority. The rest of us can gain quite a bit from it, depending on what our wants and needs are. As a professional, I have been taught the value of therapeutic exercise. Although it is often overlooked, it is still one of the, if not the best treatments for a lot of musculoskeletal problems and many others as well. I have used it to treat patients suffering from painful backs, shoulder problems, stroke, the consequences of extensive orthopaedic operations, etc. The reason for exercise not being the first treatment option in many cases, in my opinion, is that it is not "glamorous" enough. Exercise can be hard and involve quite a bit of sweat. Many seek treatments that are a lot easier but a lot less effective. It also takes some time to see results, but it's worth it. The interesting thing is that we do not need to spend long hours in the gym to get these results. Short sessions can be designed with the same benefits. You just need to know how, and I'm the person that does.

Book Review by Ivor Kindle

Title: Nature's Cures Author: Michael Castleman Publisher: Rodale Press This book has been selected as my book of the month for the simple reason that during these difficult times many issues that would not have been at the forefront of our thinking may need to be addressed with a little more thought and reasoned knowledge. This book would make an excellent point of reference in respect of guidance and thinking through some of the everyday problems that life can throw at us. It covers mind and body healing as well as the benefits of walking and even takes a look at vegetarianism... vitamins and minerals and a chapter of healthy habits. As we come out of lockdown hopefully this book could be seen as a simple reference path to future wellbeing.

Keep reading and keep well, Ivor Kindle.

'THIS IS YOUR IBIZA FIX RIGHT HERE' Georgia Humphreys talks to the cast of new Netflix series White Lines.

MULTI-LAYERED CHARACTERS Zoe was the first role Londoner Haddock, 34, wanted to play after maternity leave. "I just realised she had so much to learn about herself and she really didn't know who she was," explains the mother-of-two, who has starred in films such as Transformers: The Last Knight and The Inbetweeners Movie, plus BBC series The Capture. "She's 35 years old and her life had been on pause for 20 years that was really interesting to me." Line Of Duty and Fisherman's Friends star Danny Mays plays devoted father Marcus, who works as a part-time DJ, part-time dealer, and was Axel's best friend. "He is probably the most tragic comedic character I've played to date; I adored playing him because he works in extremes," enthuses the Essex-born actor, 42. "When we initially see him out in Ibiza 20 years later, he's on a downward curve in life, and gets himself into all sorts of difficult and hapless scrapes. But as the series unfolds, we reveal more and more of the pain in his heart, and all of the regret that he's carrying around with him." PA Photo/Netflix/Chris Harris.

FLASHBACK SCENES The show takes us back to when Axel was young, and that's where Britannia star Tom Rhys Harries comes in. "I realised maybe midway through shooting, that my character Axel who is this larger-than-life figure who just goes after whatever he wants and gets whatever he wants - is an anagram of Alex," notes the 27-year-old Welshman. "And I spoke to Alex about this - via his translator because he doesn't speak English and I don't speak Spanish - and he was like, 'Yeah, that's not a coincidence...'" Playing the young Marcus is Cold Feet star Cel Spellman, 24, who says he and Mays had discussions to make sure they were on the same page with the essence of the character. "But as far as playing him, we both agreed that we wanted to have the freedom to do our own thing with it," continues Spellman. "Where there is that 20-year gap, Marcus is very much the same

I think; Marcus is kind of stuck in time really. But, enough time has passed to find them in very different points in their life as well."

Feel like you're running out of things to binge-watch on Netflix? Don't panic. White Lines is a new mystery thriller series, which is not only dark and funny, but also transports viewers to sunny, hedonistic Ibiza. The 10-parter - written by Spaniard Alex Pina - sees university librarian Zoe (Laura Haddock) decide to leave her quiet life in Manchester to find out what happened to her brother, Axel, who was working as a DJ on the Balearic island when he went missing. 20 years later, his body has been found. But the police aren't touching the case anymore - and Zoe wants answers. As she immerses herself in the world of parties and dance music, she starts to unearth lies and cover-ups, meeting plenty of suspicious people along the way. Here, members of the all-star cast tell us everything we need to know about the show.

A DIFFERENT WORLD

Angela Griffin - known for Coronation Street, Waterloo Road and Cutting It - takes on the role of Marcus's ex-wife, the charming, sensual and ambitious Anna, who was also friends with Axel. She now lives in London with her wealthy fiance, George, for most of the year, but goes out to Ibiza for the season. Her business is "giving sex parties to people who have got a lot of money", says Griffin, who adds that the show "does get quite raunchy - in a very beautiful way". "If it had been Anna who takes all her kit off and so on, it might have been a little bit different, but she is the orchestrator, the puppet-master - she organises, she's the pleasure-giver as opposed to the partaker, so that didn't worry me when I read it." Griffin elaborates that she was drawn to the role because of how far away it is from her in real life. "Anna is about the same age as me, she's got two children the same age as mine, but in terms of her personality, she's so different from me and that was such a massive appeal. It did make me feel slightly uncomfortable, but that is what made me want to do it, because it becomes a challenge then." PA Photo/Netflix/Chris Harris.

N

etflix drama White Lines - set on the White Isle - follows a woman investigating her brother's mysterious disappearance. Georgia Humphreys chats to some of the stellar cast about their flawed characters, raunchy scenes and why the show is the perfect form of escapism.

PARTY LIFESTYLE

When Griffin was filming in Manchester in the Nineties, she went to the Hacienda - the famous music venue in the city so the nightclub scene depicted in White Lines really resonated with her. "I understood it, I related to it, but that is probably about the only thing that I related to, in terms of how crazy they get. I was watching it going, 'Well, I never did that, and I never did that, and thanks goodness I never did that!'" Spellman points out how, as a Mancunian, that period of the Nineties is a "massive part of our cultural identity". "We definitely live in a time that is a lot more tame, so to be given a pass to go and throw yourself in and let loose and run wild, it's a dream - I was chomping at the bit to lose my way a little bit and go a bit mental." It's certainly exciting, at a time when Covid-19 has put us in lockdown, to escape to Ibiza through our TV screens. "It's sun, sea, sand, sex, drugs, alcohol... It's that hedonistic extravaganza really, so it is going to give a lot of people something in these very difficult times, and it's a proper binge-watch, there is no doubt about that," suggests Mays. "This is your Ibiza fix right here." "It's hugely entertaining, it's really emotional, it's high-octane drama and I think that is what we all need," echoes Haddock. "We're all craving a little bit of that at the moment, so I'm superexcited about people watching it." - White Lines is now available on Netflix.

Note from Benny: Just as we started to see some light at the end of the tunnel, bad news. Two of our choirs have fallen victims to coronavirus and been forced to close. They hope to return some time in the future, but for now, their followers and local charitable organisations are totally bereft of their singing and fund-raising abilities. Our hearts go out to the members and families of those infected. Meanwhile, to the best of my knowledge, all our other board-treaders and warblers are planning to hopefully resume business by the autumn and remain dedicated to their individual causes. Stagestruck Theatre Group: Due to the ongoing current situation the group have decided not to perform any shows this year in the hope that next year they will be able to return to as normal a life as possible. The decision has not been taken lightly and they understand everyone needs something uplifting to look forward to. They are always grateful of the support given to the group allowing them to help local charities wherever possible. They hope to return in 2021 with renewed vigour and will be again committed to help those in need. our ARIES Do not count on any friendships made now lasting for a long time, although even though they are temporary, they will be very beneficial to all concerned. Be careful not to cut corners on any DIY projects you may undertake as you will regret it in the long run. Take head of those thoughts, trust your instincts and hold back a bit until you are sure that you are really sure of their intentions.
