The Bridge Bistro
Who doesn’t remember the hopping Central Bar in the early 2000s? That is where it all started for us.
We had spent a few years in Fernie, working and skiing. I was working with Claude and his business partner running the Hi3 Lodge for a couple of winters, which allowed us to travel and ski in both Canada and Sweden.
In the fall of 2000, we jumped on the opportunity with Langley Travel, a Swedish Tour Operator to take over the Central Hotel, Restaurant and Bar. The venture at that time was seasonal during winters. During summers, we travelled to Sweden or Corsica and worked in other restaurants.
In 2008 we had the opportunity to take over the Food and Beverage operations at the Fernie Golf Course, which presented yearround work in Fernie as we also took over the restaurant at The Griz Inn with the Corner Pocket Brasserie.
As summer tourism began to grow, the ski hill restaurant became a hotspot for weddings. We probably hosted close to 40 weddings and other events at the two locations in 2010. The catering part of our business was extremely busy the following few years, running both locations simultaneously, as well as catering many larger Christmas functions… and while all of this was fantastic, and we really enjoyed running both locations, we were always on the hunt for our own place. sale and the Bridge Bistro was born. We ran all three restaurants for three years, with the help of some exceptional staff. Our Chef, Fredrik became a partner at our newest venture where we will celebrate 10 years in business this June.

Fernie is an amazing place to work and play. But it hasn’t always been easy. Seasonal challenges, weather fluctuations, tourism, staffing… it has always kept us on our toes, especially the struggle to keep staff employed year-round.
We are dedicated to supporting our staff first, to keep them employed for as much of the year as possible, and in the last eight years, the off season has become almost nonexistent.
Fernie is growing fast, with so many people moving to the area permanently. We appreciate the support we receive from the people that live and work in Fernie year round, and from all the visitors that keep checking in on us and are looking forward to serving you for many more years to come.
Q. In my opinion, the Elk Valley stands apart because…
A. Fredrik: of the people and the pace, the long days and the opportunities for hanging with friends with common values and interests.
Q. My favourite way to start a Fernie day is…
A. Claude: make myself a Chai Tea, read the news, and then go play a good game at the tennis court.
Q. The best way to end a Fernie day is...
A. Lillis: a night ride! Or just sit out on my patio at home and watch the sun go down behind Mt. Fernie. Sunsets and sunrises are the most beautiful in Fernie.
Q. The one summer secret I’m willing to share is...
A. Fredrik: Sunday afternoon/early evening golf at the Fernie Golf Course, no doubt the best time! Lillis: I love summer thunder storms!
