Morrissey Falls* A:4 | D:4 | P:4

Drive towards Cranbrook and take a left over the bridge to Morrissey. You’ll want to continue and follow the Morrissey Forest Service Road. There is no official location on Google for this spot. Enter these coordinates and Google Maps will show you where to go: 49.4069734, -114.920333. The drive is bumpy, but this spot is incredible with an easy 5-minute walk, a waterfall, and a deep large swimming hole to swim in. We found this last year and it will be my go-to this summer.

Matheson Falls*

A:3 | D:5 | P:4

These falls are another gem close to Fernie. To get here you drive up Coal Creek past km 42 and park before the bridge as the trail head is on the town side. From here walk up-stream for around 10 minutes over the wooden stairs and over the moss. The trail was recently worked on by the Trail Alliance, so it is in pretty good shape!

Surveyors Lake A:5 | D:5 | P:4

Surveyors Lake is a classic swimming area 30 minutes from Fernie. With abundant parking and amenities like bathrooms and park benches, it is a great place to take the family for the day.

Burton Lake A:5 | D:5 | P:5

This is a little unknown lake 25 minutes from Fernie. It is perfect for a shady picnic or an afternoon of sitting in the sun. There are a number of cliffs to jump off too!

Remember to take your sunscreen and pack out what you pack in. Only swim to depths that you are comfortable. And of course, to have fun.
