“SAUDADE” Creative Direction - ITAINTREBECCA X Alex Adair Styling - ITAINTREBECCA Photography - Alex Adair Model - Erin Lathangie @ Colours Agency H&MUA - Mikala Monsoon

I then wrote down every concept and idea that came to my head and naturally, opportunities began to come around and I realised that now is my time and from there I’ve just been building. “What characteristics would you say it takes in a person to be a great stylist?” I believe it has to be a genuine passion. There’s so much work online that has no meaning and it just rinses the culture. It would be cool to see people produce more work that actually stemmed from somewhere, what happened to the time where timeless art was created? But yeah, apart from that, a good eye for detail and being aware of things that are happening out-with fashion too. “Tell us about the best shoot you’ve styled to date?” I don’t feel that I have a “best shoot” to date. I’m just starting out and building myself up so I still have a long way to go but I have a lot of plans that will continue to push my work. All of my shoots are very different and something that I’m working on is perfecting my aesthetic. I want people to be able to look at my work and know that I did it because they’ve recognised my stamp on it. “What things would you say make a stylists work weak?” If I see a shoot/client wearing a fit that the Stylist would fully wear themselves, it’s weak. It’s easy to dress someone up but it’s more difficult to understand and evolve someone’s look. “Do you look up to any other stylists in the industry?” My all-time favourite has to be Aleali May. I can relate to her through the way she mixes high-end fashion with streetwear, her interest in Hip-Hop culture and her love for the 90’s fashion era. Everything that I love from brands to Artists that I listen to, Aleali is already on. Going on tour with my favourite Artists and to have the opportunity to style them for each show would be a dream come true for me, much like Aleali did with Kendrick Lamar on the Yeezus Tour.

“Who are your favourite designers and why?” Although there are the legendary fashion houses like Margiela, right now my favourite Designer is Off-White by Virgil Abloh. He’s managed to create collections that are high-fashion but still resonate with streetwear culture and I respect that. Not long ago, there wasn’t Féroce Magazine gets to talk exclusively with Stylist and Creative room for “streetwear” in high-fashion and now, it’s being accepted. She’s Féroce Magazine’s one to watch. Of course having contacts can give you new opportunities to work with great people but if you show up to a “Tell us how you got to where you are now, has it been job with no knowledge of what you’re doing, your dream to be a stylist, where did you study?” that opportunity could easily go as quickly as you got it. I’ve naturally always enjoyed putting together different looks and ideas, but while I was in school, I never thought that styl- “What do stylists bring to the indusing was a choice for me as a career. “What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your past self when you were starting out?” Stop forcing it all to happen at once, everything will happen in time if you’re patient. “Do you dislike anything about the industry? Is there something you’d change about it if you could?” One thing I dislike is how people don’t often talk about the struggle. It’s difficult to begin and survive in fashion and I feel that once people begin to succeed, they paint a picture of this perfect life and forget to mention the hardships and what it took to get there. It would be cool for people to speak out about their journey and what struggles they faced to get to where they are. “What’s the most expensive garment you’ve had to take responsibility for?” Whether a piece is from a high-end Designer or an upcoming Designer, I take care of all pieces in the same way. I don’t take it for granted that Designers are willing to let me have their garments on loan… but as for high-end pieces, then it would probably be a pair of Marques Almeida trousers which I think were £200. “Are there any preconceptions about stylists that you’d like to denounce?” When people ask me about styling, I’ve noticed that I get a shocked reaction when I explain the process of pulling clothes, organising deliveries, sourcing pieces from different designers and telling them how much time actually goes into planning different looks. I think a lot of people think that being a Stylist is just a fun game of playing dress up but it’s actually hard going which is why it’s important for it to be a passion of yours if you want to pursue it. “Who are the best team you’ve worked with so far?” I can positively say that all teams have been a pleasure to work with. I’m particular with who I work with to ensure that, not only am I working with like-minded people, but that I can offer my full commitment to the project. I go into projects whole-heartedly and I put my all in, therefore it’s important to me that I can represent the rest of the team and that they represent my work also. “What would be your ultimate job? Who would you style for if you had the chance tomorrow?” Immediately, my ultimate job would be to collaborate on anything with Alexander Wang. I love everything that he does, from his choice of setting for his runway shows, casting of his models, the music he plays and of course, the clothes. And, if I could style anyone tomorrow, it would have to be A$AP Rocky, he can pull of near enough anything. Although, he’s already got his style on lock so I’m sure he’d be able to give me a few tips haha! “Do you have any codes of ethics within your styling, is there certain items or brands you refuse to use?” I don’t think there are any specific items or brands that I would refuse to use unless I learned something that didn’t sit right with me but one thing that I always make sure with styling is that my model is comfortable. When I’m creating looks, I always communicate with the model to make sure they are comfortable with the choice of clothing, sizes, etc. I’m also a fan of collaborating with both unsigned and signed models, having an agency behind you doesn’t bother me and I hope that more unsigned models get more opportunity to work professionally within the industry!
