This way SPAI also encourages excellence in screen printing. SPAI members could send their entries to FESPA’s international award competitions – Munich 2005, Berlin 2007, Geneva (Digital) 2008 & Munich 2010 and SPAI members, by bagging awards in these competitions, proved that Indian screen printers can match international standards
Past Scenario of Screen Printing in India
Earlier, screen printing was done through manual processes, using conventional modes. Indian printers were wary to shift to mechanization, either due to high costs compared to the manual costs, or ignorance or lack of knowledge as to how the usage could be optimized. Due to these conventional modes the applications of screen printing were limited. To add to it, different brands of Digital Machines came into India in large numbers and Digital Printing gave faster deliveries, they became more popular, with Screen Printing taking back seat.
Recent Scenario of Screen Printing in India ‐ 1 In recent years, scope for Industrial applications of Screen Printing grew: - Indian Economy opened up for Manufacturing sector, - More and more International companies willing to invest directly or on Joint ventures, set their manufacturing units in India, - Automotive, Computers & peripherals, Electronic consumer durables, Medical Equipments, Mobile/Telecom Industries etc., - Outsourcing of Textile manufacturing for International brands opened up, - Most printers, dependant totally on Solvent Inks, started shifting to UV inks (more versatile & environment friendly). - Manufacturing companies, set up their own Screen Printing units or encouraged Screen Printing ancillaries. - Research and Development processes took place to provide variety of finishes on different substrates, which were hitherto not tried out.
Recent Scenario of Screen Printing in India ‐ 2 To keep pace with the requirements to the Manufacturing & Screen Printing Industry, - Ink manufacturers established/expanded their own set-ups – DIC India, Colors, Fuji Sericol, Jainco and Micro Inks providing a variety of Solvent & UV inks. - Machinery Manufacturers introduced smaller machines fitting within lower budgets, bringing mechanization, within reach of small/medium enterprises, enabling shift from Manual to Mechanized processes, providing better quality, value addition & faster delivery schedules than earlier. -Encouraged Offset printers to add on Screen Printing Machines in-house, to render value addition to their customers by providing quality special effects, in print finish and that too within the committed time schedules, with better bottom lines.

Future plans of SPAI – 1
Robust growth of Indian Economy, in 2009-10 & 2010-11 expecting to be over 8.7 % growth large scope for the Manufacturing companies to contribute to the growth. - Translates into scope for screen printing activities. -SPAI has planned for Road Shows across the country, amongst the non-metro locations, to provide exposure and education to the large number of small and medium enterprises to shift from manual processes, to embrace modern technology, for better results, speedier and consistent delivery. - First of its Road Shows was conducted in June 2010, with fairly good response and the remaining are planned from September 2010 to March 2011. SPAI will try to get FESPA team to participate in some of these Road shows, if not in all.
Future plans of SPAI – 2 SPAI has been communicating with various Industry Associations (especially the Manufacturing Associations), in the last year, with which it would like to get associated, to promote Screen Printing with the members of these Association by conducting joint awareness programs, as most of these members can use Screen Printing on their products, effectively enhancing the value of their products. This would also enhance the scope of business for screen printing products / printers. Couple of these Associations have already shown interest in such tie-ups with SPAI and expected to happen soon. SPAI also plans to commence a Tabloid to share information to all current members and prospective ones too. With Technical and Financial support from FESPA, planning to commence a SPAI event in a small way, to promote Screen Printing as well as create branding for the SPAI & FESPA brands…..
Thank you for sitting through the presentation.
