Once charming, Count Almaviva has become a scheming bully who spends his days pestering the serving girls. Figaro, his head of staff, is engaged to Susanna, but Almaviva has a particular soft spot for her and is doing everything he can to delay their wedding… This much-loved production of Mozart’s irresistible masterpiece, directed by the great British baritone Sir Thomas Allen, is full of humour, subtlety and wit. The bubbling, energetic score sees Mozart at his theatrical best; the gorgeous period designs providing the backdrop for a comedy of social revolution that is as relevant today as ever.

Christopher Bruce’s Ghost Dances

Wed 23 to Fri 25 November 7.30pm Festival Theatre

Ghost Dances is Christopher Bruce’s masterpiece, and possibly the most popular work in Rambert’s history. It tells stories of love and compassion, as death – in the form of the iconic “ghosts” – interrupts the daily lives of a series of ordinary people. Using imagery from the Day of the Dead and the bewitching rhythms of traditional songs, it’s a moving, intensely human work, revived here for the first time in 13 years.

“ Exhilarating and poignant” Photograph by Anthony Crickmay

The Sunday Times on Ghost Dances

Alongside this classic are two new pieces from Rambert. Tomorrow takes you inside the world of Macbeth, and reveals the dark desires that lead a man to murder. Frames creates a show-within-a-show, as dancers use metal poles to form shapes, structures and spaces which, quite literally, frame their dancing in a different light.

A NUFFIELD AND CURVE CO-PRODUCTION

Boggis, Bunce and Bean, three greedy, smelly, horrid farmers hate the cunning Mr Fox. Mr Fox is smart, clever and rather fantastic, but he doesn’t realise how determined the farmers are to get revenge. Can he hatch a plan to save his family and friends? A tale of greed, pride and the power of friendship, this flagship production for the Roald Dahl 100 celebrations promises a huge theatrical feast with live music and songs, ideal for the whole family. Directed by Maria Aberg (As You Like It, RSC) and designed by Tom Scutt (A Number, Nuffield & Young Vic), this playful re-telling of Dahl’s brilliant and witty story will be a stunning stage spectacle.
