Winner of 7 Olivier Awards and 5 Tony Awards® including ‘Best Play’, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time brings Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel to thrilling life on stage, adapted by two-time Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens and directed by Olivier and Tony Award®-winning director Marianne Elliott, and starring Scott Reid (Still Game). Christopher, fifteen years old, stands beside Mrs Shears’ dead dog. It has been speared with a garden fork, it is seven minutes after midnight and Christopher is under suspicion. He records each fact in the book he is writing to solve the mystery of who murdered Wellington. He has an extraordinary brain, exceptional at maths while ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. He has never ventured alone beyond the end of his road, he detests being touched and he distrusts strangers. But his detective work, forbidden by his father, takes him on a frightening journey that upturns his world.

Deeply rooted in Argentinean culture, tango has fascinated and captivated the world with its sexuality, power and beauty. For m¡longa, internationally celebrated choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui collaborates with an incredibly talented cast of Argentinean dancers and live musicians to create a show that brings his own unique style to tango. Milonga is the term for a tango dance party. Inspired by the late night milonga scene held in the intimate bars of Buenos Aires, Cherkaoui draws on traditional influences and adds a contemporary twist. The result is a seductive and fascinating exploration of tango for the 21st century.

India’s most innovative dance company makes its Edinburgh debut with SARI, a celebration of the creation of this unique drape, in constant play with the body, both in stillness and in movement. India’s tradition of handwoven textiles, with its incredible range of colour, texture and design, has, for millennia, been one of the most defining and visually striking elements of the Indian persona. Each sari is a unique extension of the weavers’ own body. What begins in the weavers’ hands culminates in a personal and sensuous experience for the wearer, the Indian woman’s visual identity, her second skin.

Scotland’s national dance company returns with a programme inspired by the music of one of the most distinctive and influential composers of the 20th Century, Igor Stravinsky, performed by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. Le Baiser de La Fée (The Fairy’s Kiss), by renowned Scottish choreographer Sir Kenneth MacMillan, will feature a stunning new set and costumes. The ballet is inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale The Ice Maiden and tells the story of a boy destined for immortality after being kissed at birth by a fairy. The Rite of Spring, choreographed by Scottish Ballet’s Artistic Director Christopher Hampson, brings raw physicality to this programme. Featuring only three dancers, it tells the story of two brothers as they grow together, come of age and descend into a violent confrontation.

The Nutcracker
The Nutcracker
Sat 9 to Sat 30 December Festival Theatre
Christmas 2017 sees the return of Scottish Ballet’s much-loved production of The Nutcracker created by Scottish Ballet’s founder, Peter Darrell. Share this magical story with family and friends, over forty years since it was first shown on stage. Travel on an enchanting journey with young Clara, who falls asleep after a Christmas party and dreams of helping the Nutcracker Prince defeat an army of mice. Join her as she visits the glittering Land of Snow, where delicate snowflakes come to life and be dazzled by the Kingdom of Sweets, the enchanted realm of the Sugar Plum Fairy. Scottish Ballet’s dancers create magic in this most famous festive tale, with luxurious Victorian costumes and colourful sets. The world famous Tchaikovsky score is performed by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra.
