A storm is brewing in a small fishing village. A young woman returns home, searching for answers about her father’s death. But as she begins to weave together the strands of her past, a mysterious force unravels family secrets. Lost at Sea journeys through a labyrinth of myth and memory in an epic tale spanning forty years of the fishing industry. Featuring the voices of fishermen and their families in their own words - with music, songs and Scots language - it is the lyrical and powerfully evocative story of a North-East fishing family. Inspired by the loss of playwright Morna Young’s fisherman father, Lost at Sea is a personal tribute to the fishing communities of Scotland.

Sir Thomas Allen returns to Scottish Opera to revive his five-star production of Mozart’s most inventive opera. Set in a spectacular world inspired by the Victorian futurism of HG Wells and Jules Verne, this enthralling Magic Flute perfectly balances the opera’s beguiling mix of comedy, fantasy and pantomime with a profound story of the search for wisdom, love and truth. A handsome prince, a damsel in distress, sorcerers, priests and a bumbling bird catcher – all are given life in Mozart’s sublime blend of lyrical love duets, folk-like ditties and the explosive coloratura of the Queen of the Night arias. The international cast includes Peter Gijsbertsen (La traviata 2017); Gemma Summerfield, First Prize winner at the 2015 Kathleen Ferrier Awards; name-towatch Julia Sitkovetsky; and Richard Burkhard, who returns as Papageno, the laugh-out-loud role he created in 2012.
Revival of the 2012 production. Sung in English with English supertitles.

Adapted by Kevin MacNeil from his best-selling novel, The Stornoway Way is full of wit and wisdom, both a romantic evocation and a scabrous critique of the Isle of Lewis - “a great and symbolic chip off Scotland’s shoulder.” With a variety of voices from Lewis and a musical soundtrack featuring original and traditional songs in Gaelic and English, The Stornoway Way is irreverent, witty and honest, a bittersweet theatrical romcom, twisted, squeezed out and hungover, a story about the search for the ideal, the desire for happiness and the struggle to come to terms with who you are, versus who you want to be.

The legendary Jack Cardiff has retired to the sleepy village of Denham, Buckinghamshire. His days of hard work - and play – on some of the most famous film sets in the world are now long behind him, as are his secret liaisons with some of the most famous women in the world...
