Welcome After a long winter we’re emerging into Spring 2022 with an abundance of shows to entertain and delight you. This season we’ve got big-ticket musicals, irresistible comedy, thrilling drama and breath-taking dance. We’re also delighted to be hosting some of the city’s most vibrant festivals including Edinburgh International Children’s Festival, Edinburgh Jazz & Blues Festival, and of course the 75th Edinburgh International Festival. If you haven’t already got your Christmas all wrapped up then book now for Scottish Ballet’s sparkling Snow Queen, not forgetting our very own Panto, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, transferred to the Festival Theatre while the King’s undergoes its transformational redevelopment.
For more information and to join our email list go to capitaltheatres.com Or follow us at captheatres We are an independent theatre organisation and a registered Scottish Charity, No SC018605
We’re proud to say that there will be a Capital Theatres co-production in all three of our spaces this year. Our final show in the King’s before it closes for redevelopment will be Sunshine on Leith and we’re delighted to reveal the ensemble cast bursting with Scottish talent. The Festival Theatre will play host to James IV - Queen of the Fight a theatrical epic revealing a fascinating chapter of Scottish History. In The Studio this Christmas Barrowland Ballet bring The Gift, the second treat in our trio of early years festive commissions with Eden Court and Aberdeen Performing Arts. We look forward to welcoming you! Fiona Gibson, CEO Capital Theatres

Rudolf’s morbid fascination, sexual appetite and ultimate violence make this real-life anti-hero as compelling as Hamlet, while Sir Kenneth MacMillan’s breathtaking choreography takes us on a physical and emotional rollercoaster. The sweeping intensity of the ballet is matched by the sumptuous music of Franz Liszt, performed live by the Scottish Ballet Orchestra. Reimagined and redesigned by Scottish Ballet, this dramatic world premiere will be the first time MacMillan’s iconic ballet is produced in the UK outside of London.

You’re a window into a wide world.” Scotland, 1504, seen fresh through the eyes of new arrivals Ellen and Anne, two Moorish women who were expected to take their place at a royal court...but not this one. Both women now have to fight to find and keep a place in the dazzling, dangerous world of the Scottish Court of James IV. It’s a world where war is never far away, words of love and promises of peace are not what they seem and where poets might turn out to be more dangerous than any assassin. Employing the same wit and theatricality of the first three James Plays, acclaimed playwright Rona Munro takes you back to a thrilling and uncharted period of Scottish history in this brand new production. For almost 50 years, the all-male comedy ballet company Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo affectionately known as “The Trocks”) have been delighting audiences of all ages at sell-out performances featuring their fabulous sense of fun and their flawless dance. Originally from New York, the Trocks are now loved worldwide for their sassy spoofs and hilarious homages to classical ballet, where 16 dancers each transform into two personas, both male and female! Every performance frivolously froths with tutus and testosterone, blush-pink ballet pumps, fierce false eyelashes and prima ballerina attitude. However, what makes this company extraordinarily special is their immaculate technique and daring physicality, surpassed only by their impeccable comic timing.
